Abstract

Hidroksiapatit dan beta trikalsium fosfat merupakan biomaterial yang sering digunakan pada bidang dentistri dan ortopedi untuk teknik grafting karena bersifat biokompatibel dengan tubuh manusia. Permintaan akan bone graft yang meningkat membuat negeri kita mengembangkan produk lokal yang lebih murah, mudah didapat, dan biokompatibel. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi hemokompatibilitas melalui evaluasi hematologi dan kadar mineral darah. Sejumlah 28 ekor tikus Sprague Dawley digunakan dalam eksperimen ini dan dibagi ke dalam empat grup. Grup I sebagai kontrol, grup II diimplantasi menggunakan bone graft komersil, grup III dan IV menggunakan bone filler berpori dan granul yang dikembangkan oleh Badan Pengkajian dan Penerapan Teknologi (BPPT). Tiap grup dibuat lubang defek sebesar 5 mm pada tulang kalvaria dan diambil darah pasca 30 hari implantasi. Parameter darah yang diambil yaitu sel darah merah, sel darah putih, kadar mineral kalsium dan fosfat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada perubahan yang signifikan pada pemeriksaan sel darah merah (P>0.05) dengan jumlah eritrosit berkisar antara 4.50-4.83x103?L walaupun terjadi kenaikan pada trombosit pada grup bone filler berpori dan granul pasca implantasi, dan pada sel darah putih (P>0.05) dengan leukosit berkisar antara 7.74-14x103?L. Pada pemeriksaan kadar kalsium dan fosfat juga tidak menunjukkan adanya perbedaan yang signifikan (P>0.05). Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa bone graft lokal tidak mengakibatkan peradangan kronik dan bersifat hemokompatibel.

Abstract

Kidney disorders frequently occured in dogs and can be examined using ultrasound. The present study was aimed to know the prevalence of abnormalities that occurs in the kidney through ultrasound examination in dogs in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of IPB University and My Vets Animal Clinic Jakarta. Data from 88 dogs were taken and recapitulated based on the results of medical records through ultrasound examination. Data were analyzed descriptively using parameter of body size, age and sex. The results showed the highest prevalence of kidney disease based on body weight occurred in small breed dogs (13.6%) and large breed dogs (11.4%). Based on age the highest prevalence occurred in geriatric dog that was equal to 50%. The prevalence of renal abnormalities by sex was highest in male than female dogs (52.3%). The prevalence of kidney disorder was influenced by body weight, age, and sex. Based on correlation analysis there was a strong correlation between age and sex.

Abstract

Chemical castration is a method that can be applied easily without any surgical intervention in animals. This study utilized iron (III) chloride hexahydrate (FeCl3.6H2O) as a new material for chemical castration in mice. Twenty seven adult male mice were divided into five groups: FeCl3 20% (n = 6), FeCl3 10% (n = 6), FeCl3 5.0% (n = 6), FeCl3 2.5% (n = 6), and control NaCl 0.9% (n = 3). A 0.2 mL of NaCl 0.9% or FeCl3 in various concentrations was injected intra-testicularly on each testis of the mice. Post-castration survival rate with LD50 values was obtained at the concentrations between 2.5-5.0% of FeCl3 groups, and 100% mice survived in the control group. The size of testis and concentration of spermatozoa decreased, in contrast with the increased concentration of FeCl3 solution used seven days post-injection compared to the control group. ABSTRAK Kebiri/kastrasi kimiawi secara injeksi intra-testis merupakan metode pengebiriam yang dapat dilakukan dengan mudah tanpa prosedur bedah pada hewan. Penelitian ini memanfaatkan larutan besi (ferri/III) klorida (FeCl3) sebagai bahan baru untuk tindakan kebiri kimiawi pada mencit. Mencit jantan dewasa umur lima bulan sebanyak 27 ekor dibagi dalam lima kelompok yaitu FeCl3 20% (n=6), FeCl3 10% (n=6), FeCl3 5,0% (n=6), FeCl3 2,5% (n=6) dan kontrol NaCl 0,9% (n=3). Larutan FeCl3 sebanyak 0,2 mL diinjeksikan secara intra-testikel pada setiap organ testis. Daya hidup pascakebiri injeksi nilai LD 50 diperoleh pada kelompok FeCl3 konsentrasi di antara 2,5-5,0 % dan kelompok kontrol 100 % hidup. Organ testis dalam skrotum mengalami pengecilan ukuran dan konsentrasi spermatozoa mengalami penurunan seiring dengan peningkatan konsentrasi larutan FeCl3 yang digunakan setelah tujuh hari pasca injeksi dibandingkan dengan kontrol.

Abstract

Endocardiosis is a disease commonly found in Pomeranian dog characterized by progressive myxomatousdegeneration of the atrio-ventricular valves especially in the mitral valve. The purpose of this study was todefine the diagnose and severeity of this disease on the Pomeranian by using brightness mode, motion mode,dan color flow Doppler echocardiography technique. Echocardiography was performed on 8 Pomeranianconsisting of 6 males and 2 females with age range of 2-14 years. Brightness mode echocardiography wasused to see the echotexture of endocardium, mitral valve, and the valve movement. The results showedendocardium thickening, along with chronic fibrosis and nodular thickening of the anterior and posteriormitral valve leaflet. Three out of seven cases showed prolapsed of the mitral valve. Motion modeechocardiography was performed in order to measure left ventricle internal dimension, myocardium thickness,fractional shortening, left atrial and aortic dimension. The results showed myocardium thickening, alongwith left atrial enlargement. Color flow Doppler echocardiography was used to confirm the mitral valveregurgitation. Three of seven cases showed the presence of regurgitation signed by turbulence color of theprolapsed mitral valve. Based on the degree of severity, scoring system used in this study, endocardiosis canbe divided into three types that are mild, moderate and severe.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to observe blood profile of domestic cats which includes red blood cell, white blood cell, haemoglobin, haematocrit, and trombocyte during skin graft recovery period via autograft. A total of nine male domestic cats (Felis catus) aged 1-2 years weighting 3-4 kg were separated into three treatment groups. Hair shaving and disinfectant application were done on lateral area of front leg, and then 2x2 cm incision was made. The wound was wrapped by sterile gauze dampened by poviderm iodine and left for different period of days per treatment group; where Group I (two days), Group II (four days), and Group III (six days). Transplantation was done by taking the skin on thorax area and placing it on the recipient after first cleaning subcutaneous tissue from the skin surface of donor’s wound and the base of recipient’s wound. Blood sample was taken from vena cephalica antebrachii anterior on day 0 before skin graft, on day three, six, nine, 12, and 18 after skin graft. Based on the result, significant difference waso bserved from red blood cell count, white blood cell count, haemoglobin count, and hematocrit, whereas trombocyte count did not show any significant difference between treatment groups. The cats on Group II and Group III were systemic good condition compared to Group I. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan melihat profil darah kucing lokal, meliputi sel darah merah, sel darah putih, hemoglobin, hematokrit, dan trombosit selama kesembuhan tranplantasi kulit secara autograft. Sebanyak sembilan ekor kucing lokal (Felix catus) jantan umur 1-2 tahun dengan bobot badan 3-4 kg dibagi menjadi tiga kelompok perlakuan. Pada kucing tersebut dilakukan pencukuran rambut dan desinfeksi pada area kaki depan sisi lateral, selanjutnya dibuat luka sayat/incisi 2x2 cm. Luka dibalut dengan kasa steril yang dibasahi povidone iodine dan dibiarkan selama beberapa hari. Kucing dengan sayatan yang dibiarkan tersebut dikelompokkan menjadi kelompok I (dua hari), kelompok II (empat hari), dan kelompok III (enam hari). Transplantasi dilakukan dengan mengambil kulit dari area thorak dan ditempatkan pada resipien dengan terlebih dahulu permukaan luka kulit donor dan dasar luka resipien dibersihkan dari jaringan subkutis. Pengambilan sampel darah dilakukan melalui vena cephalica antebrachii anterior pada hari ke-0, 3, 6, 9, 12, dan 18. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian terjadi perbedaan yang signifikan (P<0,05) terhadap jumlah sel darah merah, sel darah putih, hemoglobin, dan hematokrit, sedangkan jumlah trombosit tidak menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan (P>0,05) di antara kelompok perlakuan. Kondisi sistemik tubuh kucing kelompok II dan III lebih baik dibandingan kelompok I.

Abstract

General anaesthesia has a high risk during surgery, regional anaesthesia with nerve block is expected to minimize the use of general anaesthesia while increase the analgesic effect and muscle relaxation effect. This study aimed to compare the analgesic effects of sciatic nerve block on the hind limb and the effect of lidocaine 2%, and a combination of 2% lidocaine with 2% xylazine on sheep cardiopulmonary function. Sciatic nerve block was guided with ultrasonography and nerve stimulator. In this research, sheep were sedated with diazepam (0.5 mg / kg). Sheep was divided into three groups; first injected with saline solution (SS), second with lidocaine 2% 5 mg / kg (Lid) and third with lidocaine 2% 5 mg / kg and xylazine 2% 0.1 mg / kg (LidXyl). The results of this research showed that the LidXyl group had the highest analgesic effect and broader blockade area, namely femoris, cruris, and metatarsus-digit. The LidXyl blockade value was highest in the digitmetatarsus region, while the Lid group shows the highest blockade value in the cruris region. The LidXyl group with the addition of xylazine results in a decrease in heart rate and respiration rate. Xylazine increased and extended analgesic effect compared to lidocaine but resulted in a decrease in heart rate and respiration rate in the early minutes of anaesthesia, it is however safe to be used in sheep.

Abstract

Veterinary Hospital of Education Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Bogor Agricultural University, received a Golden Retriever with clinical symptoms of anorexia, abdominal pain, vomiting and constipation in April 2016. Blood profile examination showed leukocytosis, erythropenia and low hemoglobin level. Radiographic examination without contrast showed a foreign body which is characterized by a large mass radiopaque in intestinal area. Forty-five minutes after the administration of radiographic contrast, contrast material was still in gastrium and only reached partial intestinal. Endoscopy examination showed there was irritation symptoms of the esophagus to gastrium. Black colored liquid was seen while the endoscope inserted into the gastric. Enterotomy was carried out to remove foreign objects. The foreign body is consisted of bones fragments and the plastic that was eaten by the patient. One week after surgery, the animals showed clinical symptoms and had a good appetite. These case can be prevented by not giving foods that contain animal bones and keeping animals in a dirty environment.

Abstract

Sunda porcupine (Hystrix javanica) is one of the endemic porcupine species in Indonesia. The importance of wild species preservation brings with it the requirement for more basic aspects of anatomy. The knowledge of the normal radiological anatomy of the lung is of crucial importance for the making of a correct diagnosis of lung diseases. This study aimed to provide information about the radiographic anatomy in the lung lobation of sunda porcupine. This study was an explorative study using four sunda porcupines. Thoracic radiograph was retrieved using conventional and digital X-ray machine. Standard projections for thoracic radiography used lateral and ventrodorsal projection. The evaluation result of thorax radiogram showed that interlobar fissures separate the different lobes. The porcupine right lungs consist of four lobes, i.e. cranial lobe (cranial and caudal segment), middle lobe, caudal lobe, and accessory lobe, while left lung consisted of only two lobes, i.e. cranial lobe (cranial and caudal segment) and caudal lobe.

Abstract

Several major surgeries may require long time use of anesthetics and therefore increase the heartfunction suppression. The purpose of this study was to determine long term effects of anesthetic propofoland isoflurane on heart structure and function of domestic rabbits through observation of the blood flowvolume and contraction capabilities by M-mode echocardiography examination. This study used thecombination of propofol 12.5 mg/kg IV as an induction and isoflurane inhalation as the maintenanceanesthetic for a 12-hour observation. Parameters observed in this study were heart rate, wall thickness,internal chamber dimension, blood flow volume, fractional shortening, and ejection fraction. Results showedthat the left ventricle heart chamber dimensions during diastole (LVIDd) and systole (LVIDs) were between1.21±0.08 to 1.33±0.1 cm, and 0.87±0.08 to 0.98±0.08 cm respectively. Left ventricular wall thickness atdiastole (LVWd) and systole (LVWs) ranged from 0.24±0.04 to 0.28±0.04 cm, and 0.23±0.03 to 0.28±0.05cm respectively, while the thickness of the interventricular septa at diastole (IVSd) and systole (IVSs)ranged from 0.23±0.02 to 0.27±0.04 cm, and 0.28±0.06 to 0.30±0.05 cm. Heart rate ranged from 244.6±18.46to 266.4±24.55 beat/min. Heart flow volumes which included stroke volume (SV) and cardiac output (CO)ranged from 1.07±0.29 to 1.57±0.53 mL/beat and 0.27±0.07 to 0.39±0.14 L/min respectively. Fractionalshortening and ejection fraction ranged from 26±3 to 31±5% and 60±2 to 67±8% respectively. In conclusion,long term anesthesic of propofol and isoflurane combination induced minimum cardiac suppression indomestic rabbits.

Abstract

Ketamine is anesthesia that commonly used in the rabbit’s surgery as animal model often combined with transquilizer. The aim of this study is to evaluate the rabbit’s cardiac performance after administration of ketamine anesthesia combined with transquilizer. A total of 24 rabbits of New Zealand White strain were divided into four treatment groups, namely ketamine 40 mg/kg BW, combination of ketamine 10 mg/ kg BW and xylazin 3 mg/kg BW, ketamine 10 mg/kg BW and medetomidin 0.125 mg/kg BW and ketamine 10 mg/kg BW and acepromazin 1 mg/kg BW group. Evaluation were performed at 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes after administration of anesthesia. Evaluation of cardiac performance using echocardiography on heart rate, stroke volume, ejection fraction, fractional shortening and cardiac output. The results showed that the heart rate in all treatment groups decreased along with observation time, except the ketamine group increased after 45 minutes. The stroke volume, cardiac output and fractional shortening in all treatment groups was stable, and the value was not significantly different among time observation (P> 0.05). The ejection fraction of the ketamine combined with transquilizer showed had the same pattern, decreasing at the 30 minutes observation followed by increasing at 45 and 60 minutes observation, while the ketamine group increased at 45 minutes but decreased again at minute 60. The lowest ejection fraction score was seen in the ketamine group. The research suggest that administration of ketamine with combined transquilizer medetomidin showed the most stable cardiac performance during observation.
