Abstract

An 11-year-old castrated male Maltese was examined for increased frequency of defecation, mucus in feces, and chronic diarrhea with hematochezia. The dog was referred to Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, IPB University for further evaluation. Ultrasonography and colonoscopy were performed to further diagnose. Abdominal ultrasonography was taken using a linear probe with frequency 6-11 MHz. Colonoscopy was performed using colonoscope with tube length 700 mm and diameters 10 mm under anesthesia. Abdominal ultrasonography showed that the dog had a mucocele gall bladder, cholecystitis, hepatitis, slight-mild splenitis, nephrolithiasis, urolithiasis and thickened of the duodenal wall due to inflammatory bowel diseases. Colonoscopy showed ulceration and hemorrhage along the surface of the colon, whereas hyperemia only seen on the ascending colon. Based on endoscopic examination, the dog was diagnosed with severe and chronic ulcerative colitis. The authors recommended that the colonic biopsy should be undertaken in the dog presented with chronic ulcerative colitis.

Abstract

An 9-years-old male pug was examined for stranguria and letargic in one week. The dog has no testicles as the owner claimed that the dog had been castrated a few years ago. Abdominal palpation shows bladder retention filled with urine but no blockage was found. Urine sedimentation contained blood and few unknown crystal. Hematology showed mild anemia and leukocytosis while blood chemistry only found mild hyperglobulinemia. Radiography showed prostate enlargement. Ultrasound examination was showing mild nephrolithiasis, cystitis and prostatic enlargement. Diagnosis of benign prostate hyperplasia is suspected but doubtful because the animal has been castrated. Differential diagnose was prostatic cysts, infection and cancer. The dog received finasteride 1 mg/kg twice a day orally for 60 days and antibiotic. Urine catheter was temporarily installed to evacuate urine twice a day. Post treatment ultrasound was performed 20 days later and showed evident involution of prostate sizes. An enlarge irregular testicle was also found in right dorsolateral of bladder. Monorchid castration was performed at 60 days of finasteride. The dog was diagnosed with monorchid induce benign prostate hyperplasia from the radiography and ultrasonography. The prostate size was reduced after finasteride administration

Abstract

Prevalensi gangguan pada kantung empedu anjing adalah 53% dapat berupa mucocele gallbladder, biliary sludge, dan cholelithiasis. Kasus gangguan tertinggi pada kantung empedu anjing adalah biliary sludge yang dapat didiagnosa lebih lanjut dengan ultrasonografi (USG). Studi kasus ini merupakan rangkuman dari kasus anjing ras Pomeranian usia 9 tahun datang dengan keluhan mengalami muntah frekuen yang dirujuk ke Rumah Sakit Hewan Pendidikan, Fakultas Kedokteran Hewan, Institut Pertanian Bogor. Pemeriksaan USG dilakukan untuk meneguhkan diagnosa. Sonogram menunjukkan permukaan kantung empedu yang tidak rata dan adanya endapan yang menutupi hampir 75% luas kantung empedu. Anjing tersebut diberikan terapi antimuntah, asam ursodeoxycholic dan hepatoprotektan. Terapi asam ursodeoxycholic dan hepatoprotektan diberikan selama 2-3 bulan dan dievaluasi dengan USG. Hasil evaluasi pertama setelah terapi selama 45 hari terjadi pengurangan endapan menjadi 70%. Hasil evaluasi kedua dari terapi selama 45 hari adalah endapan pada kantung empedu tersisa sebanyak 50%. Hasil evaluasi ketiga setelah 3 bulan terapi, endapan pada kantung empedu sudah berkurang hingga tersisa kurang dari 30%. Terapi dihentikan selama 10 bulan dan dilakukan evaluasi terhadap endapan di kantung empedu. Hasil evaluasi terakhir didapatkan adanya peningkatan endapan kantung empedu sebanyak 70%. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi, anjing tersebut diberikan terapi asam ursodeoxycholic dan hepatoprotektan untuk di konsumsi selama 45 hari.

Abstract

A 12-years-old mini pomeranian with clinical symptom of coughing was referred to Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Bogor Agricultural University for evaluation. The radiogram showed difus interstitial nodular pattern on the lungs and enlargement of the spleen. Abdominal ultrasonography and echocardiography was performed to further diagnose the dog. Abdominal ultrasonography was taken using linear probe with frequency 5-11 MHz. Echocardiography was perfomed with right parasternal and left apical views using microconvex probe, with frequency 6-8.8 MHz. Abdominal utrasonogram showed that the dog had billiary sludge, mild splenitis, nephrolithiasis, and urolithiasis. Two dimensional Brightness-mode echocardiography showed thickened and prolapsed mitral valve. Two-dimensional M-mode echocardiography showed increasing of left ventricle lumen dimension (LVID) at systole, decreasing of fractional shortening (FS), and enlargement of left atrial. Color Flow Doppler-mode revealed there was mild regurgitation at the mitral valve. These results lead diagnosis to dilated cardiomyopathy and myxomatous mitral valve disease

Abstract

An eight-months-old male Golden Retriever was referred to Veterinary Teaching Hospitalof IPB University with clinical signs of non-ambulatory paraplegia, tail paralysis, urinary and faecal incontinence, pale mucosa, and loss of sensory and motoric responses on both pelvic limbs. The hematology examination showed thrombocytopenia (125x103/µL), monocytopenia (0.09x103/µL),and no significant decreased of hematocrit (36.88%). Rapid diagnostic test and blood smears were positive for Ehrlichiacanis infection. Abdominalsonogram showed splenomegaly and hepatomegaly with hepatic vessels dilatation. An integrative therapy was done using medications (vitamin B-complex, cyproheptadine, methylprednisolone, doxycycline, and Fundamin E®), herbal (Gui Pi Tang® and Fu Fang Ejiao Jiang®), acupuncture, micro-radar, and Tuina massage. The dog was able to walk and run after 10th session of the intensivetreatment then discharged from the hospital after two months. One week after, the dog started dragging his toe. A customized shoe then made to prevent furtherinjury to the affected limb. The acupuncture was continued once a week for the following two months. The dog is still able to walk and run at his last visit 5 months later. This shows that an integrative therapycan give a good performance in recovering ambulation of paraplegia dog with ehrlichiosis

Abstract

A one-year-old domestic shorthair male cat was presented to the clinic with severe dyspnoea. The cat has a history of recurrence bronchial disease with coughing as a major clinical sign. The cat never be hospitalized and clinical symptoms will disappear after antibiotic and glucocorticoid administration within a few days. On physical examination, the cat was dehydrated and apathetic. Dullness thoracic percussion was detected. Other organs out of thorax did not show abnormality. Thoracic radiography revealed pleural effusion. Purulent fluid was obtained by thoracocentesis and cytologic examination result was septic exudates. Hematological result was marked leukocytosis (59.69x10ˆ9 g/l). Enrofloxacin was given as empirical antibiotic until culture results released. On the 7th day of Enrofloxacin administration, there was only a slight decrease in leucocyte count. Bacterial culture results was Acinetobacter baumannii (A. baumanii) that are sensitive to Meropenem and Tigecycline from antibiotic resistance test. Previous antibiotic was stopped and replaced with intravenous Meropenem. Moderate decrease of leucocytes count (28.03x10ˆ9 g/l) obtained on day 18th of Meropenem treatment and patient shows good clinical sign progress. Meropenem resistancy were considered when leucocytes count increased on the 20th day as A. baumanii is extremely multi-resistant organism. Third-line Tigecycline was administered as the last choice use of antibiotic and stop after leucocyte returned to normal on the 7th day of the treatment. The cat is fully recovered from Acinetobacter Baumannii infection pyothorax treated using third-line Tigecycline antibiotics.

Abstract

Blok atrioventrikular komplit (AV blok III) merupakan kelainan jantung yang disebabkan oleh blok hampir semua impuls listrik jantung pada AV junction ditandai dengan ketidaksamaan denyut di atrium dan ventrikel. Tulisan ini melaporkan kasus pada pasien yang dirujuk ke Rumah Sakit Hewan Pendidikan Fakultas Kedokteran Hewan Institut Pertanian Bogor. Anjing Pomeranian betina, usia 3 tahun, bobot badan 1,53 kg dirujuk dengan keluhan pembesaran jantung untuk dilakukan ekhokardiografi di cardiology center service. Pemeriksaan lain yang dilakukan adalah pemeriksaan fisik, radiagrafi thoraks dan elektrokardiograf (EKG) serta ekhokardiografi. Pemeriksaan fisik menunjukkan hewan kurus dengan body condition score 3/9, lemah, suhu 39,4°C, freksuensi nafas 99 kali/menit, frekuensi jantung 84 kali/menit. Pemeriksaan EKG menunjukkan jantung hewan mengalami AV blok III ditandai dengan beberapa gelombang P tidak muncul, gelombang Q dan gelombang R terlalu tinggi serta gelompang T abnormal. Radiografi thoraks menunjukkan adanya kardiomegali dan ekhocardiografi menunjukkan detak jantung irregular, otot jantung menebal, ejection time 0,18 detik, fractional shortening 45%, ejection fraction 83% dan perbandingan diameter aorta dan lumen atrium 2:1. Pemeriksaan color Doppler terlihat adanya turbulensi aliran darah pada katup atrioventrikular dan katup semilunar.

Abstract

A 10-months-old cross long hair cat named Casper with clinical symptom of vomiting mixed with slimy cat feed was referred to Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Bogor Agricultural University to endoscopy examination and therapy. The owner believed that Casper ate a 5 cm long sewing needle a few days earlier. The history and physical examination were examined at DNA Clinic with symptoms of lack of appetite and becoming quieter and calmer. Radiogram showed the needle was in thorax area with a vertical needle penetrating the esophageal wall. Removal of the needle and observation of the esophagus area were done using endoscopy under general anesthesia. Using endoscopy, it was known that the needle was swallowed along with the sewing thread with position of all needles penetrating the esophagus wall and leaving a small amount of thread on the lumen. The needle was pulled back to the esophageal lumen by pulling the remaining thread and then both needle and the thread were pulled back out using an alligator grasping forceps that used through working channel. Therapy given after endoscopy was antibiotics and anti-emetics.

Abstract

Magnesium is a metal that is being developed in the field of biomaterials, especially as biodegradable implants. MgZn alloy has mechanical properties and corrosion resistance that are better than other Mg binary alloys. The process of conducting the MgZn integration in this study, used the ultrasonic waves that flows in toluene as a medium. Ultrasonic waves will generate the cavitation to the medium, and the explosion of the cavitation will produce a high temperature and pressure in order to combine Mg with Zn. The characteristic of using XRD showed that the ultrasonic treatment for 50 hours can increase the crystallites size of Mg and Zn. However, it is not yet able to produce the MgZn alloy. This is affected by the presence of the Mg(OH)2’s layer on the Mg particles. SEM/EDS result showed that 50 hour ultrasonic treatment can clean the Mg from the layer of Mg(OH)2. Abstract

This study aims to delineate the tissue structure of male cat external reproductive organs using ultrasound with different types of consoles and transducers frequencies through indirect method. External organ of 5 tom weighing 2-3 kg was evaluated using ultrasound with stationary console (linear transducer, 10 MHz) and portable console (linear transducer, 6.5 MHz), transcutaneously. The results showed that both console and transducer could not visualize the structure of organs sized less than 10 mm through direct method. However, the indirect method using stationary console with a 10 MHz transducer enable to visualize the organ and depicts clearly the internal organ structure such as penis and its parts, scrotum and its constituent layers, caput and cauda of epididymis, and testicles. Furthermore, portable console with 6.5 MHz transducer was still able to provide an adequate image of those organs. In general, fibrous tissues such as tunica vaginalis, tunica Dartos, funiculusspermaticus, and urethra were visible in ultrasonogram as hyperechoic structures, while soft tissues such as the parts of testicles and penis were visible as hypoechoic structures. Tissue containing fluid such as urethral lumen was visible as anechoic structure. In conclusion, indirect ultrasound imaging method was sufficient to visualize the organs sized less than 10 mm using 3-15 MHz transducer in which was currently widely used in animal health care clinics.
