Abstract

A one-year-old domestic shorthair male cat was presented to the clinic with severe dyspnoea. The cat has a history of recurrence bronchial disease with coughing as a major clinical sign. The cat never be hospitalized and clinical symptoms will disappear after antibiotic and glucocorticoid administration within a few days. On physical examination, the cat was dehydrated and apathetic. Dullness thoracic percussion was detected. Other organs out of thorax did not show abnormality. Thoracic radiography revealed pleural effusion. Purulent fluid was obtained by thoracocentesis and cytologic examination result was septic exudates. Hematological result was marked leukocytosis (59.69x10ˆ9 g/l). Enrofloxacin was given as empirical antibiotic until culture results released. On the 7th day of Enrofloxacin administration, there was only a slight decrease in leucocyte count. Bacterial culture results was Acinetobacter baumannii (A. baumanii) that are sensitive to Meropenem and Tigecycline from antibiotic resistance test. Previous antibiotic was stopped and replaced with intravenous Meropenem. Moderate decrease of leucocytes count (28.03x10ˆ9 g/l) obtained on day 18th of Meropenem treatment and patient shows good clinical sign progress. Meropenem resistancy were considered when leucocytes count increased on the 20th day as A. baumanii is extremely multi-resistant organism. Third-line Tigecycline was administered as the last choice use of antibiotic and stop after leucocyte returned to normal on the 7th day of the treatment. The cat is fully recovered from Acinetobacter Baumannii infection pyothorax treated using third-line Tigecycline antibiotics.

Abstract

Blok atrioventrikular komplit (AV blok III) merupakan kelainan jantung yang disebabkan oleh blok hampir semua impuls listrik jantung pada AV junction ditandai dengan ketidaksamaan denyut di atrium dan ventrikel. Tulisan ini melaporkan kasus pada pasien yang dirujuk ke Rumah Sakit Hewan Pendidikan Fakultas Kedokteran Hewan Institut Pertanian Bogor. Anjing Pomeranian betina, usia 3 tahun, bobot badan 1,53 kg dirujuk dengan keluhan pembesaran jantung untuk dilakukan ekhokardiografi di cardiology center service. Pemeriksaan lain yang dilakukan adalah pemeriksaan fisik, radiagrafi thoraks dan elektrokardiograf (EKG) serta ekhokardiografi. Pemeriksaan fisik menunjukkan hewan kurus dengan body condition score 3/9, lemah, suhu 39,4°C, freksuensi nafas 99 kali/menit, frekuensi jantung 84 kali/menit. Pemeriksaan EKG menunjukkan jantung hewan mengalami AV blok III ditandai dengan beberapa gelombang P tidak muncul, gelombang Q dan gelombang R terlalu tinggi serta gelompang T abnormal. Radiografi thoraks menunjukkan adanya kardiomegali dan ekhocardiografi menunjukkan detak jantung irregular, otot jantung menebal, ejection time 0,18 detik, fractional shortening 45%, ejection fraction 83% dan perbandingan diameter aorta dan lumen atrium 2:1. Pemeriksaan color Doppler terlihat adanya turbulensi aliran darah pada katup atrioventrikular dan katup semilunar.

Abstract

A 10-months-old cross long hair cat named Casper with clinical symptom of vomiting mixed with slimy cat feed was referred to Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Bogor Agricultural University to endoscopy examination and therapy. The owner believed that Casper ate a 5 cm long sewing needle a few days earlier. The history and physical examination were examined at DNA Clinic with symptoms of lack of appetite and becoming quieter and calmer. Radiogram showed the needle was in thorax area with a vertical needle penetrating the esophageal wall. Removal of the needle and observation of the esophagus area were done using endoscopy under general anesthesia. Using endoscopy, it was known that the needle was swallowed along with the sewing thread with position of all needles penetrating the esophagus wall and leaving a small amount of thread on the lumen. The needle was pulled back to the esophageal lumen by pulling the remaining thread and then both needle and the thread were pulled back out using an alligator grasping forceps that used through working channel. Therapy given after endoscopy was antibiotics and anti-emetics.

Abstract

Magnesium is a metal that is being developed in the field of biomaterials, especially as biodegradable implants. MgZn alloy has mechanical properties and corrosion resistance that are better than other Mg binary alloys. The process of conducting the MgZn integration in this study, used the ultrasonic waves that flows in toluene as a medium. Ultrasonic waves will generate the cavitation to the medium, and the explosion of the cavitation will produce a high temperature and pressure in order to combine Mg with Zn. The characteristic of using XRD showed that the ultrasonic treatment for 50 hours can increase the crystallites size of Mg and Zn. However, it is not yet able to produce the MgZn alloy. This is affected by the presence of the Mg(OH)2’s layer on the Mg particles. SEM/EDS result showed that 50 hour ultrasonic treatment can clean the Mg from the layer of Mg(OH)2. Abstract

Sasak oil is one of Indonesia traditional medicine products that can help the fracture healing. This study was aimed to analyze the leukocytes profile of femoral fracture healing process in rat using sasak oil therapy topically. This study used 28 male rats which were divided into four groups. All rats underwent closed fracture surgery of the mid-femoral diaphysis and intramedullary pin inserting. The group of P0 was control, P1 was given 0,1 mL of sasak oil twice a day, P2 was given 0,3 mL of sasak oil twice a day, and P3 was given 0,5 mL of sasak oil twice a day topically over the wound sutures for eight weeks. Blood sampling was conducted one day before surgery, the 2nd, 6th, and 8th week after surgery. Generally, leukocytes of the P3 group on the 2nd week after surgery decreased then increased on the 6th and 8th week, except neutrophils. On the 2nd week after surgery, neutrophils increased above normal significantly (P<0,05) compared to the value before surgery. On the 6th week leukocytes, lymphocytes, and monocytes increased insignificantly (P>0,05) compared to the 2nd week. Meanwhile, neutrophils decreased significantly (P<0,05). The increasing and decreasing of those blood cells were still within the normal range and not different significantly (P>0,05) with the 8th week. This study showed sasak oil at a dose of 0.5 mL (P3) given twice a day topically was more stable, and it could accelerate cell regeneration as well as it did not cause allergies.

Abstract

Disorders of the spleen and liver are cases that are quite common in dogs, especially in old age. Ultrasonography (USG) of the abdomen is one of the diagnostic imaging tools to determine the changes and severity of disease in the hepatobiliary visceral organs and spleen. A 12-year-old, unneutered male Shih Tzu dog weighing 5 kg had clinical symptoms of vomiting, weakness, and a pain response when palpated in the abdomen. The examination was carried out at the VTH SVMBS IPB University. Abdominal ultrasound examinations were routinely performed every month from November 2021 to March 2022. The results obtained from a series of ultrasound examinations for five months showed that the size of the hypoechoic nodule in the spleen did not change significantly with dimensions of length x width x height of about 1.1 x 0. 8 x 1 mm. The texture of the liver parenchyma is not homogeneous in all lobes. Hypoechoic nodules were seen in all lobes of the liver. A Significant increase in the size of the nodules was observed in the left lobe liver in the second month of examination and did not change in the following month. Hematological examination of the blood showed that the dog had thrombocytosis and granulocytosis. The results of the blood chemistry examination showed that ALP and ALP levels tended to increase at each assessment. The conclusion is the dog was diagnosed with neoplasia in the spleen and liver

Abstract

This study aims to delineate the tissue structure of male cat external reproductive organs using ultrasound with different types of consoles and transducers frequencies through indirect method. External organ of 5 tom weighing 2-3 kg was evaluated using ultrasound with stationary console (linear transducer, 10 MHz) and portable console (linear transducer, 6.5 MHz), transcutaneously. The results showed that both console and transducer could not visualize the structure of organs sized less than 10 mm through direct method. However, the indirect method using stationary console with a 10 MHz transducer enable to visualize the organ and depicts clearly the internal organ structure such as penis and its parts, scrotum and its constituent layers, caput and cauda of epididymis, and testicles. Furthermore, portable console with 6.5 MHz transducer was still able to provide an adequate image of those organs. In general, fibrous tissues such as tunica vaginalis, tunica Dartos, funiculusspermaticus, and urethra were visible in ultrasonogram as hyperechoic structures, while soft tissues such as the parts of testicles and penis were visible as hypoechoic structures. Tissue containing fluid such as urethral lumen was visible as anechoic structure. In conclusion, indirect ultrasound imaging method was sufficient to visualize the organs sized less than 10 mm using 3-15 MHz transducer in which was currently widely used in animal health care clinics.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mencitrakan jantung domba jawa ekor tipis (DET) secara ekokardiografi. Domba ekor tipis jantan sebanyak lima ekor dengan berat 14-16 kg berumur 10-12 bulan digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Domba dipegang dan dibaringkan pada meja khusus tanpa sedasi ataupun pembiusan. Organ jantung domba dicitrakan menggunakan ultrasonografi brightness-mode (B-mode). Transduser cembung dengan frekuensi 2,5-4 MHz digunakan untuk mencitrakan jantung pada posisi right parasternal (RPS) view dan left parasternal (LPS) viewdengan posisi long axis (LAx) dan short axis (SAx). Hasil pencitraan ekokardiografi menunjukkan bahwa bagian-bagian dari organ jantung yang tersusun atas cairan terkesan anechoic, sedangkan bagian yang tersusun atas jaringan lunak terkesan hypoechoic dengan derajat ekogenisitas yang bervariasi. Bagian-bagian struktur jantung dapat dibedakan menurut ruang jantung atrium kanan, ventrikel kanan, atrium kiri dan ventrikel kiri. Bagian-bagian jantung yang dapat dicitrakan seperti septa jantung, otot papilaris, katup jantung semilunaris, katup jantung mitralis, katup jantung trikuspidalis, pembuluh darah vena paru-paru dan aorta. Ekokardiografi B-mode pada organ jantung domba jawa ekor tipis dapat mencitrakan dengan baik struktur ruang, otot, katup dan pembuluh darah besar dengan derajat ekogenisitas yang bervariasi.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to describe the role of diagnostic imaging and endoscopy to define the diagnose of the upper gastrointestinal tract disorder of the Schnauzer. The information from the owner stated that the dog has been vomiting for a year, sometimes containing blood. There might also be a possibility that it had eaten a corpus alienum. This case study covered physical examination, hematology and blood chemical analysis, diagnostic imaging radiography and ultrasonography as well as endoscopy performed. Physical examination showed weight loss and anorexia. Hematology and blood chemical analysis showed an increase in hemoglobin, hematocrit, lymphocyte, ureum, creatinine, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) values. Abdominal radiograph showed no abnormality in the abdominal organs. Abdominal ultrasonography showed a hiperechoic elongated mass attached on the stomach mucosal surface which forms an acoustic shadowing at the ventral.  Endoscopy showed pathological lesions that is inconsistency of stomach mucosa surface, foamy fluid in the stomach, ulcers and erosion of the stomach mucosal surface. Based on the diagnostic imaging and endoscopy performed, the animal was clearly diagnosed with chronic gastritis accompanied by stomach ulcer and erosion.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui gambaran darah merah pada tikus yang diimplan porous tantalum berlapis hidroksiapatit. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan 12 ekor tikus jantan, galur Sprague Dawley, umur ±3 bulan yang dibagi dalam tiga kelompok yaitu kelompok kontrol tanpa implant (K1), kelompok implan porous tantalum (K2), dan kelompok implan porous tantalum berlapis hidroksiapatit (K3). Pengambilan darah dilakukan melalui vena pada ekor di hari ke-0 sebelum pemasangan implan, ke-14, dan ke-30 setelah pemasangan implan. Pengamatan data parameter darah merah meliputi jumlah sel darah merah, kadar hemoglobin (Hb), dan persentase hematokrit. Hasil perhitungan jumlah sel darah merah, kadar Hb, dan hematokrit menunjukkan perbedaan yang tidak nyata (P>0,05) pada masing-masing kelompok perlakuan kecuali jumlah sel darah merah pada kelompok tikus yang yang diimplan dengan porous tantalum tanpa lapis meningkat pada hari ke-30 dan menunjukkan perbedaan dibandingkan kelompok lainnya (P
