Abstract

Background: Adolescent smoking has become a significant public health problem with a growing prevalence in many parts of the world. Aims: This study aims to analyze the use of appropriate educational media on the dangers of smoking for adolescents. Methods: This study used a scoping review method, with sources from Google Scholar and Scopus from 2019 to 2024. The keywords used in the search included combinations of terms such as “educational media”, “smoking hazard”, “adolescents”, “smoking prevention”, and others. In addition, reference lists of relevant studies were also searched to identify additional sources that may be relevant. Results: The results show that from 2020 to 2024, there were 972 articles in Google Scholar, while in Scopus, 108 databases were found. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that educational media that are interactive, visually appealing, and utilize digital technology, such as animated videos, tend to be more effective than traditional educational media, such as advertising videos or leaflets. Conclusion: Other interactive educational media, such as mobile game applications, have also been effective in improving adolescents' understanding due to their fun and self-accessibility. Although video advertisements and leaflets are also effective, they are less effective than interactive digital educational media. This is in line with the preferences of today's adolescents, who are more interested in interactive visual content and digital technology. In designing educational media, it is essential to involve adolescents to ensure that it meets their preferences and needs.

Abstract

Introduction: One of the common sexual issues is sexual behavior, which is predominantly engaged in by adolescents aged 15-24. Approximately 15–20% of teenagers in Indonesia have had premarital sex, and around 2.3 million adolescents have undergone abortions. Additionally, there have been 1.7 million cases of unintended pregnancies (UP) and births among teenagers under the age of 24. The increase in sexual behavior among teenagers can be attributed to several factors, one of which is exposure to sexual content on social media. Most teenagers typically engage in sexual activities of their own volition, influenced by social media. Objective: The objective of this study is to understand the influence of social media use on adolescent sexual behavior. Method: This study is a scoping review using the PRISMA approach. The data sources for this research were obtained by accessing electronic databases or journal provider websites online from Google Scholar, PubMed, and Scopus, which have published articles in the last 5 years. Result: The ease of access to information about sexual behavior through social media can encourage teenagers to engage in sexual activities. However, social media can also provide information on preventing sexual behavior, helping teenagers avoid such actions. Therefore, the use of social media among teenagers has both positive and negative influences and impacts on sexual behavior. Conclusion: Social media use among adolescents has both positive and negative impacts. The negative impact of social media can include easy access to sexual or pornographic content, which may encourage adolescents to engage in sexual behavior. On the other hand, the positive impact is that adolescents can use social media as a source of information on sexual education to prevent them from engaging in sexual behavior.

Abstract

Background: The incidence of respiratory tract infection (RTI) in Class IIA Correctional Institution (Lapas) Kendal is notably high. RTI consistently ranks as the most common illness occurring each month, accounting for over 50% of all diseases within the facility. Previous research has indicated that one of the contributing factors to RTI is poor sanitation conditions within the correctional institution. Purpose: This study aims to analyze the relationship between sanitation perceptions and the incidence of RTI in Class IIA Correctional Institution Kendal. Methods: This quantitative study uses a cross-sectional research design with a sample of 294 inmates from the Class IIA Correctional Institution Kendal. The sample was selected using total sampling, involving all inmates in the facility. A Chi-Square test was applied for bivariate analysis. Results: The variable of sanitation perception showed a significant relationship with the incidence of RTI in Class IIA Correctional Institution Kendal. The p-value for the Pearson Chi-Square test was 0.00. Sanitation perception factors included building indicators (p=0.02), room indicators (p=0.54), drinking water indicators (p=0.06), and waste indicators (p=0.00). Conclusion: Sanitation perception factors, such as building indicators and waste indicators, are associated with the incidence of RTI in Class IIA Correctional Institution Kendal. Meanwhile, room indicators and drinking water indicators were not related to the incidence of RTI. To achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs, it is necessary to implement the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) concept within the correctional institution to minimize the transmission of RTI.
