ABSTRACT Mothers play an important role as the primary caregiver of a child. Mother as a caregiver is an important factor in the child's growth and development process. negative stigma is felt by the mother so that it disturbs and affects the mental health of the mother as a caregiver. Stigma from society can occur in families who care for stunted children, especially mothers. Mothers who care for stunted children often get unpleasant treatment from the community even from health workers and posyandu cadres. This study aims to explore the perception of stunting self-stigma, the impact and psychological changes of mothers with stunted children in Garut Regency. The research design is a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Researchers wanted to explore the background of self-stigma in mothers, the impact of stunting self-stigma. In addition, researchers want to explore the impact on health seeking behavior and mothers' responses to PMT for stunted children in Garut Regency. Based on the results of this study, it was found that various kinds of responses and psychological changes were experienced by mothers who had self-stigma. Generally, self-stigma is recognized by feelings of shame because stunting is similar to malnourished children, the party to blame, and the ability to meet family food so as to refuse PMT assistance for stunted children in Garut Regency. It is important for families, health workers and posyandu cadres to provide material and emotional support and not to disclose the child's condition in public. Keywords: Self-stigma, Stunted, Psychosocial Conditions, Mother  ABSTRAK Ibu memegang peranan penting sebagai pengasuh utama seorang anak. Abstract

Online games, which are popular among teenagers, may lead to a lifestyle that increases the risk of hypertension. Lack of knowledge and appropriate attitudes regarding the negative effects of online games is a major concern. This study aims to evaluate the effect of education on increasing adolescents' knowledge and attitudes about risk factors for hypertension due to the effects of online games in high schools in Semarang City. The research design used was a quasi-experimental with two groups (intervention and control), each of which was given a pre-test and post-test. The sample consisted of 227 students from SMA Teuku Umar and MA Husnul Khatimah who were selected using non-probability sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using paired t-test, Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge in the intervention group from an average of 10.80 to 15.00, while attitudes increased from an average of 60.79 to 64.21, but were not significantly different from the control group. This study concluded that there was a significant difference between the knowledge scores of the intervention group and the control group after education. However, there was no significant difference in attitude scores between the two groups after the intervention.

Abstract

Background: The Indonesia Health Survey 2023 indicates that around 70 million people in the country smoke, with 7.2% aged 10 to 18, and Central Java province reports one of the highest child prevalence rates in Indonesia at 9.6%. Tobacco Advertising, Promotion, and Sponsorship (TAPS) influence intention to smoke, and on the other hand, Smoking Media Literacy (SML) can be a shield for youth to protect them from tobacco industry inducement. Methods: This study aims to evaluate the impact of TAPS exposure and SML on smoking intention. This cross-sectional study includes 1,014 students from ten junior high schools, eleven high schools, and five universities located in the three primary municipalities of Central Java Province. A stratified sampling method was used to choose the participants, and data was collected through a self-administered questionnaire. Results: The students were most frequently exposed to TAPS through outdoor media such as billboards and banners, followed by displays at points of sale and online platforms like social media and websites. The logistic regression found that Higher media literacy is associated with a decreased likelihood of intending to smoke, with (OR 0.60). Conversely, exposure to tobacco advertising, promotion, and sponsorship (TAPS) increases intending to smoke by approximately 55% (OR 1.55). The intention to smoke is the most potent predictor of whether an individual has ever smoked (OR 9.91). Conclusion: The low media literacy increases vulnerability to tobacco marketing, while exposure to tobacco advertising and promotion significantly heightens the likelihood of intending to smoke. The strong association between smoking intention and highlights the critical importance of early preventative measures. Targeted strategies such as media literacy education and a total TAPS ban are essential to curb the rising trend of tobacco use among Indonesian youth.

Abstract

Introduction: Maternal mortality during the postpartum period remains a significant public health concern. In 2022, most cases of maternal deaths in Semarang City occurred during postpartum period. Maternal knowledge and attitudes regarding postpartum selfcare are essential for preventing complications. Midwives’ visit to postpartum mothers’ program in Indonesia can be improved to increase mothers’ knowledge and attitude on postpartum care. This study aimed to investigate the factors associated to postpartum care in urban area of Indonesia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 90 postpartum mothers selected from three primary health care centers in Semarang City, which were chosen based on high numbers of postpartum mothers and demographic variations. Data were collected using validated, structured interviews to assess maternal knowledge, attitudes, and health worker support. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation tests and multiple linear regressions to determine the associations between socio demographic factors and postpartum care indicators. Results: The average maternal knowledge score (8.2 ± 1.16), and the attitude score were good (22.2 ± 2.82). The knowledge of mothers was lack in face’s sign of preeclampsia. The attitude of mothers was lack in self-assessment on breast inflammation. Educational attainment (p = 0.061) and parity (p = 0.015) positively correlated to knowledge. Age (p = 0.014), parity (p = 0.049), and support from health workers (p = 0.041) significantly associated to maternal attitudes. Conclusion: Higher levels of education and strong support from health workers were associated to improved maternal knowledge and attitudes toward postpartum care. These findings showed the importance of interventions on postpartum care. Focusing on less educated mothers and enhancing healthcare engagement are important to reduce postpartum related complications and maternal mortality.

Abstract

Introduction: Exclusive breastfeeding confers numerous health benefits on both mother and baby. Global data demonstrate that breastfeeding rates have not yet reached the 50% mark, indicating that more than half of the world's infants are not being exclusively breastfed. While unemployed mothers are known to be more likely to exclusively breastfeed, not all unemployed mothers have the ability to do so. The primary objective of this scoping review was to identify barriers and facilitators to exclusive breastfeeding among unemployed mothers. Methods: The review was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines, encompassing a systematic search of three databases (Scopus, PubMed, and EBSCOHost) for relevant articles published between 2014 and 2024. The initial search yielded 211 articles; however, only eight articles that met the predefined inclusion criteria were selected for further examination. Results: This review examined the barriers and enablers of exclusive breastfeeding among unemployed mothers by conducting a comprehensive analysis of eight articles published between 2017 and 2021. The articles under consideration were derived from a total of 211 articles collected across three databases using specific keywords and filtering tools. The classification of factors was conducted in accordance with L. Green's framework, which categorizes factors as predisposing, reinforcing, and enabling. The facilitator factors that were identified included adequate antenatal care, prior breastfeeding experience, and strong knowledge. The identified barriers encompassed caesarean delivery, health concerns, and inadequate knowledge. The practice of breastfeeding was influenced by a variety of factors, including family dynamics, healthcare support systems, and cultural norms. Conclusion: The findings from this review indicate the presence of predisposing and enabling factors in the internal aspects of the mother, infant condition, culture, support, health services, and other health practices. Predisposing factors play an important role as both enablers and barriers to exclusive breastfeeding in non-working mothers. This review highlights the need for more comprehensive interventions to assist mothers in improving exclusive breastfeeding practices.

Abstract

Adolescents are more likely to adopt risky health behaviors, such as smoking, alcohol use, and sexual activity. This study examined the links betweensmoking, alcohol use, and risky dating behavior and analyzed how these factors influenced risky dating and other behaviors. It is expected that this studywould be used as a foundation for developing appropriate integrated intervention for multiple risk behaviors among youths. This study was an explanatory research study with a cross-sectional approach. It involved 160 youths aged 15-24 years randomly selected from purposive villages. Participants completedself-administrated questionnaires with an enumerator present. Data were analyzed using univariate, chi-square, and multiple logistic regression. Smoking behavior, leisure activity, and self-efficacy were predictors of risky dating behavior. The self-efficacy variable also influenced multiple risk behaviors. A strong association was found between smoking, risky dating behavior, and alcohol use. One-third of the participants had dated and smoked recently, but only 10% ofthem had experienced high-risk dating activity, including petting and intercourse. Only 5% had experienced alcohol use (in particular, traditional alcohol), andno one admitted being involved with drug abuse.

Abstract

Grobogan District is a district with a sharp increasing of HIV/AIDS case compared to other districts over Central Java. This study aimed to identify public stigma to people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) and influencing factors. This explanatory study was conducted using cross sectional design worth 300 family head samples selected by using proportional random sampling on three subdistricts with highest HIV case within August - September 2014. Data collecting was conducted through face-to-face interview using structured questionnaire. Meanwhile, data analysis was conducted in univariate, bivariate using chi square and multivariate using logistic regression. Most respondents were men whose education level was mostly high school to the bottom level. Half of respondents were still stigmatizing PLWHA. Respondents whose families stigmatized had possibility of stigmatizing four times bigger than respondents whose families did not. Similarly, respondents holding negative perceptions toward PLWHA had possibility of stigmatizing twice bigger than those holding positive perceptions. Attitude of neighbors and public figures toward PLWHA also significantly related to respondent’s stigma to PLWHA. To sum up, family attitude and respondent’s perception to PLWHA were influencing factors of emerging stigma toward PLWHA. Therefore, it suggested that providing families and public any complete information about HIV/AIDS may decrease or remove the stigma.
