Abstract

The endocrine system plays a crucial role in maintaining the stability of the body's physiological functions through the regulation of hormones, which operate in a complex and interconnected manner. Imbalances in this system, which can be caused by unhealthy lifestyle and dietary factors, are a major trigger for chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes mellitus, thyroid disorders, and metabolic syndrome. This study aims to examine how a balanced nutritional pattern—both macronutrients (complex carbohydrates, high-quality proteins, and healthy fats) and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals)—supports optimal endocrine system function. A literature review revealed that excesses or deficiencies of certain nutrients can affect hormone production, metabolism, and effectiveness. For example, magnesium deficiency can inhibit insulin sensitivity, while iodine deficiency affects thyroid gland function. Therefore, adopting a balanced and nutritious diet is not only crucial for maintaining homeostasis but also plays a role in preventing endocrine disorders and sustainably reducing the risk of chronic diseases

Abstract

Gastritis is a digestive system disorder often triggered by irregular eating patterns and inadequate intake, making the stomach more sensitive to stomach acid. The prevalence of gastritis in Indonesia is quite high, with the incidence reaching 40.8% according to the WHO, and several regions reporting thousands of cases. The first study showed a significant association between diet and the incidence of gastritis, while health promotion did not prove a direct relationship. The second study emphasized the importance of implementing nursing care with a focus on meeting the patient's basic needs, particularly pain, nutritional changes, and the risk of fluid volume deficiency. Case studies revealed that stress, inappropriate diet, and food consumption habits can exacerbate gastritis symptoms, but structured nursing interventions can effectively address these issues. The third study highlighted the role of health education and counseling in increasing public knowledge, particularly students, about digestive system diseases such as gastritis and appendicitis. Results showed a significant increase in students' knowledge after counseling, which supports prevention through healthy lifestyle practices. Overall, the findings emphasize the importance of good diet, appropriate nursing interventions, and health education as key strategies in the management and prevention of gastritis.

Abstract

Sudden cardiac arrest requires rapid intervention through cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), making learning methods such as simulation and self-directed video crucial for improving the capacity of healthcare providers and communities. This review analyzed five recent Indonesian research articles to determine the impact of learning methods on CPR knowledge, attitudes, and skills, as well as nurses' experiences in practicing CPR during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study methods included literature collection and analysis from articles such as Wahyuningsih et al. (2022), Aty et al. (2023), and Metrikayanto et al. (2018), as well as two additional articles. Results showed that simulation and self-directed video were equally effective in improving CPR knowledge, attitudes, and skills (p > 0.05), although simulation was superior for complex practical skills. Barriers to nurses' experiences in CPR with COVID-19 patients included fatigue due to PPE, anxiety about infection, and mobility difficulties, which impacted the quality of intervention. Implications include the need for a combination of methods for efficiency, as well as adaptive training that considers environmental and psychological factors. Conclusion: Both methods are effective and can be used interchangeably, but training must be tailored to the practice context to optimize outcomes. Recommendation: Integrate simulations and videos into the climate environment and enhance operational support during the pandemic.

Abstract

The musculoskeletal system and the integumentary system are two important systems in the human body that play a mutually supportive role in maintaining optimal body function. The musculoskeletal system consists of bones, muscles, and joints that function to support the body and enable movement, while the integumentary system, which includes the skin, hair, and nails, functions to protect the body from external factors. Disorders of the musculoskeletal system, such as immobilization due to injury or fracture, can have an impact on the integumentary system, especially in the form of pressure ulcers due to reduced blood flow to skin tissue. This study aims to understand the relationship between musculoskeletal disorders and skin tissue integrity and the wound healing process. The methods used include a literature review and physiological analysis through the LFM (Look, Feel, Movement) physical examination approach. The results of the study indicate that the prevention of pressure ulcers requires the role of nurses in maintaining mobilization, skin hygiene, and patient positioning. In conclusion, understanding the relationship between these two systems is important to support holistic nursing care and prevent complications in patients with mobility disorders.

Abstract

Science learning in elementary schools needs to be designed contextually so that students understand the five senses from an early age, with the aim of health education. Teaching modules are developed with five senses material through a Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) approach. This module provides an understanding of the five senses (Content Knowledge) with a pedagogical strategy based on Problem Based Learning (Pedagogical Knowledge) applied to encourage sensory exploration in students' learning experiences. The five senses teaching aids which include visualization of the eyes, nose, tongue, ears, and skin, are expected to improve students' understanding of the material being taught. Then, the use of technology such as learning videos and digital evaluation (Technological Knowledge) increases student involvement in understanding the importance of maintaining health from an early age. This study uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The trial was conducted in 4th grade elementary school involving teachers and students. The results showed that this module was effective in improving students' understanding of the concept of the five senses and their awareness of the importance of maintaining their sense organs. The integration of TPACK in the module allows students to gain a deeper learning experience through the use of technology as an aid. Thus, this module becomes an alternative in learning science and increases learning effectiveness through an optimal combination of content, educational materials, and technology.

Abstract

This article aims to synthesize the latest scientific evidence on the main ways microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi) spread and assess the most important infection prevention strategies. This study used a narrative literature review method. Articles were searched in scientific databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, and Scopus, as well as guidelines from global health organizations such as the WHO and the CDC. Keywords used included "infection prevention," "microorganism transfer," "mode of transmission," "hand hygiene," and "standard precautions." Relevant articles published in the last ten years were then analyzed and summarized. The study found that microorganisms spread through several main routes, such as direct or indirect contact through objects (fomites), droplet droplets, through the air (airborne), through food or water (vehicles), or through vectors. Breaking the chain of infection depends heavily on the implementation of Standard Precautions for all patients. Hand hygiene was identified as the single most important and cost-effective intervention. Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), cough etiquette, and environmental cleaning also play a crucial role. In addition, Transmission-Based Precautions are needed for certain pathogens that spread through specific pathways.

Abstract

The haematological and immunological systems have traditionally been viewed as separate entities, but they operate through a fundamental two-way synergy that is essential for the body's defence. This article aims to map the complex mechanisms linking these two systems through a systematic literature review. This review identifies three main pillars of synergy. First, haematopoiesis serves as the foundation that produces all immune cells, a process itself dynamically regulated by immune signals. Second, inflammation is a coordinated response in which cytokines direct the recruitment of haematological cells (neutrophils, monocytes) to the site of injury. Third, immunothrombosis represents an advanced synergy in which platelet and neutrophil interactions activate coagulation to trap pathogens. This review concludes that dysregulation in one system, such as chronic inflammation, can directly drive pathology in the other systems, including thrombosis and haematological malignancies, highlighting the importance of integrated therapeutic approaches.

Abstract

Immune system disorders can affect hematological functions, potentially leading to blood abnormalities such as anemia, leukopenia, or thrombocytopenia. This study aims to analyze the impact of immune dysfunction on hematological parameters and to improve community knowledge through a community-based educational approach. The research employed a quantitative descriptive design with pre-test and post-test evaluation, involving 45 community participants in Surakarta. The program was conducted over three months through health education sessions, community mentoring, and assessments of knowledge and health behavior. The results showed a significant improvement between pre-test and post-test scores (p < 0.05), with an average knowledge increase of 28.3%. The highest improvement was found in understanding immune disorder prevention (29.5%), while the most notable behavioral changes included regular blood checkups (48%) and increased social support for immunocompromised patients (33%). These findings indicate that community-based education effectively enhances health literacy and awareness of the relationship between the immune and hematological systems. In conclusion, this community engagement program provided not only theoretical insight into immune-hematologic interactions but also tangible improvements in health behavior. It is recommended that similar programs be continued and expanded to improve quality of life and prevent immunological disorders at the community level.

Abstract

Vitamin D is a vital nutrient primarily produced through skin exposure to UVB rays. Vitamin D plays a crucial role in maintaining healthy bones and the musculoskeletal system. The skin, as the organ that produces vitamin D, works closely with the musculoskeletal system to maintain bone strength and function. This article explains the synthesis, metabolism, and action of vitamin D, as well as its impact on bone strength and the relationship between the two systems in supporting human body function. Recent studies fully explain the importance of a balance between adequate sunlight exposure and vitamin D metabolism for maintaining bone and muscle health.
