Abstract

Disorders of the human sensory system can significantly impact quality of life, affecting communication skills, mobility, and daily activities. This study analyzes the relationship between sensory system disorders and human health using a descriptive qualitative approach. The method involves collecting data from relevant literature and thematic analysis to understand the causes, impacts, and preventive measures for sensory disorders. The research findings indicate that early detection and appropriate handling are crucial to mitigate negative effects. Public awareness of the importance of maintaining sensory system health also needs to be enhanced through education and collaboration among various stakeholders.

Abstract

Corticosteroid hormones play a vital role in maintaining human homeostasis by regulating energy metabolism and stress responses. Glucocorticoids, such as cortisol, and mineralocorticoids, such as aldosterone, have specific functions in metabolic processes and electrolyte balance. Activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis during stress responses triggers corticosteroid release, enabling the body to cope with physical and psychological challenges. However, corticosteroid dysregulation can lead to various clinical disorders, such as Cushing's syndrome and Addison's disease, impacting metabolism and overall health. Furthermore, while corticosteroids are widely used in treating inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, prolonged use can cause severe side effects. This article aims to review the mechanisms, physiological roles, pathological impacts, and therapeutic potentials of corticosteroid hormones. The findings highlight the importance of managing these hormones in clinical conditions and the opportunities for developing more targeted and safer therapies.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of biochemistry in the processing of functional foods and its impact on the nutritional content and bioactive compounds. The method used is a literature review, collecting and analyzing relevant literature on biochemistry, food processing, and functional foods. The results show that biochemical processes, such as fermentation and heating, can affect the nutritional content of food. Fermentation can increase the content of probiotics and unsaturated fatty acids that are beneficial for health, while excessive heating can damage sensitive compounds like vitamin C. Proper processing can enhance the bioavailability of bioactive compounds, thus optimizing the health benefits of functional foods. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the importance of understanding biochemical processes in food processing to maximize health benefits.

Abstract

Why is it important reproductive and endocr'ine system ,s rmportanl for someone io be learned by s1udying embryology? Both of lhese syslems, reproductive and endocrine systems ure the most interconnected in lhe study of embryology. f'or example, when spermaiogenesis (sperm for-ma1ion process), will be studied how the male sex glands as the production of sperm, and then at the end of the study as well as the hormonal regulation of spermatogenesis. In the second chapter of this book discussed on the reproduclive syslem, including ultra strucrure and fsiologis of male and female reproduc1ive systems. In lhe next section, is also discussed about the endoc-rine system.

Abstract

Growth hormone (GH) is a peptide hormone secreted by the anterior pituitary gland, playing a vital role in regulating body growth and energy metabolism. This article explores the role of GH in supporting linear growth through the stimulation of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), its influence on lipid, protein, and carbohydrate metabolism, and the clinical implications of GH production disorders, including dwarfism, gigantism, and acromegaly. The research method employed is a literature review from various recent scientific sources, including journals, textbooks, and research articles. The findings indicate that GH functions to enhance lipolysis, protein synthesis, and maintain blood glucose levels, making it a key hormone in metabolic regulation. Moreover, GH production abnormalities can lead to long-term health issues, such as obesity, insulin resistance, and other metabolic complications. A deeper understanding of GH mechanisms opens opportunities for the development of hormone-based therapies to manage these disorders.

Abstract

Dental caries is a dental tissue disease characterized by tissue damage, starting from the surface of the tooth (grooves, fissures, and interproximal areas) extending towards (Braurer). Cariogenic foods are foods that can cause dental caries. The nature of cariogenic foods is that they contain lots of carbohydrates, are sticky and break down easily in the mouth. The purpose of this article is to determine the effect of food type, food frequency, and amount of food on the incidence of dental caries. The research method used was a literature review of various current scientific literature, including journals, textbooks and research articles. According to the results of research conducted by Febrian, et al., (2015), it shows that there is a significant relationship between types of cariogenic snacks and the incidence of caries. There is an influence of food frequency on the occurrence of dental caries in children. The amount of food consumed by a person or group of people at a certain time can trigger bacteria in the oral cavity to produce acid, causing the pH of saliva to decrease and demineralization to occur which will last for 30 to 40 minutes after eating.

Abstract

Nephrons are the smallest functional units in the kidneys that are responsible for filtering blood, regulating fluid balance, and excreting waste through urine. When nephrons are damaged or diseased, kidney function can be significantly impaired. Nephron damage is usually caused by various factors, such as hypertension, diabetes, kidney infections, or certain drug toxicity. In the early stages, nephron damage can cause a decrease in glomerular filtration rate (GFR). As a result, metabolic waste products such as urea and creatinine accumulate in the blood, known as azotemia. Over time, progressive damage to the nephrons can trigger chronic kidney disease (CKD). In more severe cases, when most of the nephrons are no longer functioning, the kidneys lose their ability to maintain the body's homeostasis. This results in electrolyte imbalance, metabolic acidosis, and excess fluid buildup, known as end-stage renal disease (ESRD). At this stage, patients require renal replacement therapy such as dialysis or kidney transplantation to survive. Prevention of nephron damage is very important, including through the management of comorbidities such as diabetes and hypertension, adequate fluid intake, and avoiding exposure to toxic substances that damage the kidneys. Thus, the risk of kidney failure can be minimized.

Abstract

Nucleic acids play a vital role in the process of protein synthesis, which is the core of genetic regulation in cells. This process involves a complex mechanism of DNA, RNA, and ribosomes working in a coordinated manner. DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) functions as a genetic blueprint that stores information for protein synthesis. Through the process of transcription, DNA is transcribed into messenger RNA (ribonucleic acid) (mRNA) in the cell nucleus. mRNA carries the genetic code to the cytoplasm, where ribosomes act as translation centers. Ribosomes, together with transfer RNA (tRNA), read the codon sequence on mRNA to determine the sequence of amino acids that will be assembled into polypeptides. This process, called translation, involves complex interactions between mRNA, tRNA, and ribosomes to ensure that the resulting protein is in accordance with genetic instructions. In addition, the role of non-coding RNA, such as microRNA and riboswitches, is also important in regulating gene expression post-transcriptionally. A deep understanding of the mechanisms of DNA, RNA, and ribosomes has opened up great opportunities in biotechnology and medicine, such as gene therapy and RNA-based drug development. Thus, the analysis of the role of nucleic acids becomes an important foundation in the exploration of molecular biology and genetics.

Abstract

Malnutrition remains a significant public health challenge, particularly in developing countries like Indonesia. Tempeh, a fermented soybean product, is highly nutritious and has the potential to address malnutrition. The fermentation process by Rhizopus oligosporus enhances the bioavailability of essential nutrients such as protein, iron, and vitamin B12, which are crucial for growth and development. Additionally, tempeh contains natural prebiotics and probiotics that support digestive health and improve nutrient absorption. A literature review in this study indicates that regular consumption of tempeh can help improve nutritional status, particularly among vulnerable groups such as children and pregnant women. With its affordability and wide availability, tempeh serves as a sustainable food solution that can be optimized to reduce malnutrition rates in Indonesia.

Abstract

Biochemical toxicology studies are disciplines that study the impact of toxic compounds on biochemical processes in the human body. Toxic compounds, whether from the environment, industrial chemicals, drugs, or natural products, can interfere with cellular metabolic mechanisms and potentially cause damage to organs or body systems. This study aims to analyze how toxic compounds interact with biomolecules, such as proteins, enzymes, and nucleic acids, which play a role in cellular metabolic processes. Disruption of metabolic enzymes can affect key metabolic pathways, such as energy synthesis, detoxification, and homeostasis regulation. These toxic impacts can contribute to the development of acute and chronic diseases, including liver, kidney, nervous system disorders, and cancer. In this study, we also discuss the detoxification mechanisms involving enzymes such as cytochrome P450 and glutathione-S-transferase in reducing the toxic effects of these compounds. A deeper understanding of toxic interactions and their impact on cellular metabolism is essential in developing preventive and therapeutic strategies for poisoning or toxicity-related diseases. This research is expected to provide insight into the development of more effective drugs and medical approaches in overcoming the effects of toxic toxins on humans.
