Abstract

This research examines the financial stability of Bank Muamalat Indonesia by analyzing the impact of the CAR, NPF, and FDR on the bank’s profitability, as measured by Return on Assets (ROA), over the 2013–2024 period. Employing a quantitative design with an associative causal framework, the study analyzes 48 quarterly observations derived from the formal financial reports of Bank Muamalat and the OJK. The dataset was processed using multiple linear regression supported by classical assumption diagnostics. Empirical findings reveal that CAR, NPF, and FDR jointly exert a significant impact on ROA, explaining 83% of the variation in profitability. On an individual level, CAR shows a positive yet statistically insignificant relationship with ROA, implying that adequate capital alone does not guarantee enhanced returns without efficient asset deployment. Conversely, NPF and FDR exhibit significant negative effects, indicating that rising credit risk and suboptimal fund allocation undermine profitability. These results highlight the necessity for Islamic banks to strengthen capital management, enforce prudent financing policies, and optimize liquidity strategies to sustain financial stability.

Abstract

Manufacturing activities increasingly face demands for ethical governance, worker protection, and environmental responsibility, yet maqāṣid al-sharīʿah is still more frequently operationalized in Islamic finance than in the real sector. This study examines chemical manufacturing operations at PT JM Mutu Utama through a maqāṣid al-sharīʿah review to clarify how operational policies align with maqāṣid objectives and what welfare-related performance implications emerge. A qualitative descriptive–analytical design was employed using semi-structured interviews with five purposively selected informants (QHSE Manager, HR Manager, and three operational staff), field observations, and document analysis (ISO-related certificates, SOPs, and internal reports). Data credibility was strengthened through source and technique triangulation, and analysis followed the Miles–Huberman interactive model. Findings indicate alignment across six maqāṣid dimensions (ḥifẓ al-dīn, al-nafs, al-ʿaql, al-nasl, al-māl, and al-bi’ah), reflected in OHS governance, structured welfare and compensation schemes, competency development, family-supportive policies, and environmental management practices. Welfare-related performance implications appear through enhanced economic security, improved workplace safety and comfort, and strengthened psychosocial well-being. Distributional gaps remain, particularly the limited institutionalization of religious programs for warehouse employees, indicating inclusivity challenges. The study proposes an operational linkage framework connecting manufacturing instruments to maqāṣid objectives to support employee welfare and corporate sustainability in the chemical manufacturing context. Keywords: chemical manufacturing; corporate sustainability; employee welfare; maqāṣid al-sharīʿah; occupational health and safety

Abstract

The transformation of three state-owned Islamic banks BRIS, BNIS, and BSM into BSI represents a strategic initiative by the government to strengthen the national Islamic banking industry. This study conducts an in-depth analysis of the financial performance  differences of the three banks before and after the merger during the 2016–2024 period, using the indicators CAR, NPF, FDR, and ROA. A quantitative method with a descriptive approach and a Paired Sample T-Test was employed based on published financial statements. The findings indicate that, on average, financial performance improved after the merger. Significant differences were observed in the FDR and ROA ratios, both of which increased post-merger, whereas CAR and NPF Did not exhibit substantial changes. These analysis implies that the merger positively contributed to enhancing financing efficiency and profitability, although it has not yet had a substantial impact on capital adequacy or financing quality. This research is anticipated to act as a guide for government decision-making, regulators, and industry practitioners in assessing the effectiveness of consolidation efforts within Indonesia’s Islamic banking sector.

This study used a quantitative research design and utilized primary data collected through an online questionnaire distributed to 211 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The data were analyzed using the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) approach with the help of SmartPLS version 4.0 to assess the validity and reliability of the measurement instruments and to evaluate the structural relationships between variables in the proposed model. The findings show that Islamic branding and endorsement have a positive and significant effect on consumer trust. Furthermore, Islamic branding and endorsement also showed a positive and significant direct effect on consumer loyalty. Consumer trust itself was found to have a positive and significant impact on consumer loyalty. In addition, the results confirmed that consumer trust significantly mediated the relationship between Islamic branding and endorsement and consumer loyalty, indicating that marketing strategies based on Islamic values play an important role in strengthening customer consumer loyalty.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of an economic empowerment program for mustahik through the utilization of productive zakat in the form of UMKM food-cart assistance implemented by BAZNAS of Surabaya City and to identify factors influencing the success and failure of the program. This research employs a qualitative approach using an ethnographic method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation involving 20 mustahik beneficiaries. Data analysis was conducted interactively through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings indicate that the UMKM food-cart program contributes positively to increased business activity and economic stability among some beneficiaries. However, the level of success varies across recipients. Program success is influenced by internal factors such as prior business experience, entrepreneurial motivation, and basic business management capabilities, as well as external factors including suitability of business type to local needs, strategic business location, and continuity of business mentoring. This study concludes that the effectiveness of productive zakat utilization depends not only on physical assistance but also on the interaction between mustahik capacity and the quality of program implementation.

Abstract

Nowadays, zakat paid by muzakki is channeled through an educational empowerment model, including scholarships for poor children. In addition to scholarships, the empowerment model also improved, zakat funds are also used for the development of Educational and Da'wah Institutions, including for schools, campuses, dormitories, and mosques. In At-Taubah 60, there is no mention of the Board of Education and Da'wah included in the asnaf who are entitled to receive zakat. Thus, the question arises as to how the legal position of the use of zakat funds for the benefit of the development of educational institutions and da'wah, whether the law is allowed according to sharia or not. This study used a qualitative library research method. The conclusion of this article states that zakat funds are allowed for the construction of educational and da’wah institutions, by using the reason for the "generality of interpretation" of the word sabilillah (في سبيل الله) in At-Taubah: 60 as one of the parties entitled to receive zakat. If the zakat funds for asnaf sabilillah still use the classical meaning, which means only for war, then the scope will be very narrow. In addition, at this time, jihad, which means war on the battlefield no longer exists, because it is considered a violation of human rights, and even if this kind of war is still being financed by the state.
