Abstract

The transformation of three state-owned Islamic banks BRIS, BNIS, and BSM into BSI represents a strategic initiative by the government to strengthen the national Islamic banking industry. This study conducts an in-depth analysis of the financial performance  differences of the three banks before and after the merger during the 2016–2024 period, using the indicators CAR, NPF, FDR, and ROA. A quantitative method with a descriptive approach and a Paired Sample T-Test was employed based on published financial statements. The findings indicate that, on average, financial performance improved after the merger. Significant differences were observed in the FDR and ROA ratios, both of which increased post-merger, whereas CAR and NPF Did not exhibit substantial changes. These analysis implies that the merger positively contributed to enhancing financing efficiency and profitability, although it has not yet had a substantial impact on capital adequacy or financing quality. This research is anticipated to act as a guide for government decision-making, regulators, and industry practitioners in assessing the effectiveness of consolidation efforts within Indonesia’s Islamic banking sector.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the mediating role of purchase decisions in the relationship between halal awareness, brand image, and customer satisfaction of Viva Cosmetics. A quantitative approach was employed using primary data collected through online questionnaires from 151 Muslim consumers of Viva Cosmetics in Surabaya selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results indicate that halal awareness positively affects purchase decisions (β = 0.275, t = 3.446, p = 0.001), while brand image has a stronger positive effect on purchase decisions (β = 0.584, t = 7.151, p < 0.001). Purchase decisions significantly influence customer satisfaction (β = 0.254, t = 2.448, p = 0.014). Direct effects also show that halal awareness (β = 0.375, t = 2.825, p = 0.005) and brand image (β = 0.255, t = 2.247, p = 0.025) positively influence customer satisfaction. Mediation analysis reveals that purchase decisions do not significantly mediate the relationship between halal awareness and customer satisfaction (β = 0.070, t = 1.657, p = 0.098), whereas they significantly mediate the relationship between brand image and customer satisfaction (β = 0.148, t = 2.320, p = 0.020). The structural model explains 62.4% of the variance in purchase decisions (R² = 0.624) and 61.6% of the variance in customer satisfaction (R² = 0.616). These findings highlight the more substantial role of brand image than halal awareness in enhancing customer satisfaction through purchase decisions.

Abstract

Objective: The Entrepreneurship Learning Model implemented at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Surabaya State University (Unesa), is an integrated learning model. This model aims to enhance students’ entrepreneurial interest through entrepreneurial motivation. Method: This study employs a quantitative research method. Data were collected through questionnaires, with respondents consisting of FEB Unesa students, and the data were obtained in 2024. The data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). Results: The results indicate that: 1.) the integrated learning model implemented at FEB has a significant effect on students’ entrepreneurial motivation; 2.) entrepreneurial learning motivation has a significant effect on entrepreneurial interest; and 3.) the learning model has a significant indirect effect on entrepreneurial interest through motivation. Novelty: These findings have several important implications. From an academic perspective, the development of entrepreneurship curricula in higher education should not rely solely on formal classroom learning (credit-based courses) but must also be supported by non-formal learning activities such as training, seminars, practical experiences, and the development of a real entrepreneurial ecosystem. Practically, these results also support the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) policy, particularly in designing programs such as Wirausaha Merdeka and entrepreneurship internships.

Abstract

The rapid growth of digital technology and social media usage has increased the tendency of Impulse Buying among Generation Z. This study aims to analyze the effects of religiosity, Influencer Marketing, and lifestyle on Impulse Buying among Generation Z in Surabaya. A quantitative approach with a causal associative design was employed. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 150 Generation Z respondents selected using purposive sampling. The data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The findings reveal that religiosity has no significant effect on Impulse Buying. In contrast, Influencer Marketing and lifestyle have positive and significant effects on Impulse Buying. These findings indicate that Generation Z's Impulse Buying behavior is influenced more by external factors, particularly digital marketing exposure and lifestyle, than by internal religious values. This study contributes to consumer behavior literature from an Islamic economics perspective and provides practical implications for businesses in designing more effective and responsible digital marketing strategies.

Abstract

The issue of boycotting products suspected of being affiliated with Israel poses a dilemma for Muslim consumers in making purchasing decisions, particularly regarding Nestlé products that have been certified as halal. This study aims to analyze the role of consumer trust as a mediating variable between Halal Certification and Social Media in relation to purchasing decisions regarding Nestlé products. The study employed a quantitative method using purposive sampling to gather data from 143 respondents via a Likert-scale questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares-based Structural Equation Modeling (SEM-PLS). The results show that the halal label (β = 0.470, t = 4.622, p < 0.000) and social media (β = 0.465, t = 5.260, p < 0.000) have a significant positive effect on purchase decisions. Consumer trust also has a significant effect on purchasing decisions (β = 0.382, t = 5.758, p < 0.000). Furthermore, consumer trust was found to mediate the effects of the halal label (β = 0.182, t = 4.305, p < 0.000) and social media (β = 0.147, t = 4.031, p < 0.000) on purchase decisions. The structural model explains 71.1% of the variation in purchase decisions (R² = 0.711) and 55.0% of the variation in consumer trust (R² = 0.550). The novelty of this study lies in the use of Nestlé as the target of a boycott, a topic not previously examined. The findings indicate that exposure to boycott content on social media does not necessarily stop consumers from purchasing Nestlé products. This is because consumers tend to consider other factors before making a purchasing decision
