Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of contextual learning using guided inquiry to increase prospective physics teachers' scientific literacy skills. This study used the One Group Pretest-Postest design. Students in the physics education undergraduate program at Universitas Negeri Surabaya who took thermodynamics courses were the research subjects. The results showed that students' scientific literacy abilities before participating in the learning were already in a reasonably good category, and these students scientific literacy abilities experienced an increase after participating in contextual learning with a guided inquiry approach. The evaluation results of the n-gain test based on the pretest and posttest scores obtained an n-gain score of 0.64 or 64%. Accordingly, it can be concluded that contextual learning combined with the guided inquiry approach can effectively increase prospective teacher students' scientific literacy skills based on the evaluation results of the n-gain test

Abstract

Objective: The objectives are to discover the health impact of cigarette smoke, the factors make adolescents’ smoking behavior, and how guided inquiry and other rules for preventing smoking behavior. Method: This research uses a literature review research method or literature study, collecting several sources that can later be used as a reference. This research is obtained from the seventy-five journals reviewed. Results: Based on the literature review, so many destructive impacts of cigarette smoke on health. Mostly factor in smoking behavior is an advertisement of cigarettes. Preventive ways to stop adolescents smoking behavior are also available. Nevertheless, the most effective ways are school-based learning. Primarily health education with guided inquiry learning based. Novelty: Previous research by another researcher needs to explain the factors of adolescent smoking behavior sufficiently; the previous research also needs to mention the prevention of that behavior. This research shows the health impact of smoking and prevention in social life, and this research shows the role of guided inquiry for prevention.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the increase in learning outcomes and student responses by applying the PBL-Flipped Classroom learning model in human excretion system materials. The type of research used is pre-experimental design research through one group pretest-postest design. The subjects in this study were involved as a class VIII-D at Junior High School 1 Tugu. The data collection technique was carried out using a knowledge test in the form of multiple choice questions before and after the PBL-Flipped Classroom learning model was applied and student response questionnaires to the application of the PBL-Flipped Learning model. The data analysis technique used is descriptive quantitative. The results of the data obtained were then analyzed in the form of student learning outcomes and student responses. The increase in student learning outcomes can be seen from the N-Gain analysis and paired sample t-test. The increase in student learning outcomes can be seen from the N-Gain analysis and paired sample t-test. The results of the N-Gain test obtained were 0.66, which was included in the medium category. Student learning outcomes have increased significantly, with a significance value of 0.00 < 0.05. The results of the student response were included in the very good category with a percentage of 99%. Based on the facts above, there is an effect of the PBL-Flipped Classroom learning model to improve the learning outcomes of junior high school students on the human excretion system materials.

Abstract

This study aims to provide an overview of students' scientific literacy effectiveness through project-based learning (PjBL). The type of research used is pre-experimental design research through one group pretest-postest design. The subjects in this study were 22 students of class VII A in junior high school SMP Negeri 3 Sumberejo, Bojonegoro, in the 2022/2023 academic year. The data collection techniques used were tests and questionnaires. Research instruments are science literacy tests and student response questionnaire sheets. The results were analyzed using the N-Gain and t-paired tests with effect size. The implementation observation sheet and the response questionnaire were analyzed descriptively and quantitatively. The results showed that the science literacy ability of grade VII A students of SMP Negeri 3 Sumberejo increased from an average pretest score of 30.6 to 38,03 at the post-test. Students' science literacy ability is in a low category with an average N-Gain of 0.10 with an effect size of 0.63 in the moderate category. Improving students' science literacy skills is also supported by implementing learning that is carried out correctly. The application of project-based learning received a positive response from students. Students find learning using project-based learning environmental pollution material fun, attractive, and easy to understand and use, helping to understand the concept of environmental pollution and practicing science literacy. The implication of this study's results is that students should practice many scientific literacy questions referred to as indicators of scientific literacy competency.

Abstract

Objective: Problem-solving skills are one of the skills one has to live in the 21st century. Therefore, this research aims to explain the improvement in problem-solving skills using a problem-based learning model in optical wave courses. This research was carried out on 3rd-semester students majoring in undergraduate program Science Education at the State University of Surabaya in two classes. Method: The research design used the one-group pretest-posttest design with one repetition—data collection techniques using observation and test techniques. Observations were made to review practical aspects and tests for reviewing the effectiveness aspects. Results: The observation results indicate that the learning process is classified as practical. The average result of problem-solving skills in class U students is better than in class B. Based on their problem-solving skills, students can solve problems to completion. The knowledge test results are in the moderate range. A paired T-test in each class shows a significant difference between the results before and after learning. The achievement of knowledge and skills shows that the problem-based learning model effectively improves their problem-solving skills in the waves and optics courses. Novelty: The novelty of this research is the use of four indicators adapted to optical wave material under learning conditions after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

One of the important benefits of implementing meaningful learning for students is improving better learning outcomes. But in general the ability to manage meaningful learning is still relatively low. This study aimed to describe the effectiveness of contextual-based physics learning through experimental method to increase learning outcomes in thermodynamics material. The effectiveness of contextual-based physics learning through experimental method was described based on the data of increasing students’ learning outcomes. This research employed an one-group pretest-posttest pre-experimental design. The results showed that the contextual-based physics learning through experimental method was able to increase learning outcomes of science education students in thermodynamics material with N-gain of 0.69 in medium category increase. Statistical Wilcoxon test also informed that the learning model can significantly improve learning outcomes of science education students in thermodynamics material. Based on the increase of learning outcomes, it can be concluded the contextual-based physics learning through experimental method was effective.

Abstract

Perkembangan abad ke-21 menghadirkan beberapa tantangan yang harus dikuasai oleh siswa. Model yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pembelajaran harus bersifat student centered agar siswa mampu mencapai tantangan yang dibutuhkan di abad ke-21. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan keterlaksanaan pembelajaran dan peningkatan hasil belajar siswa setelah diterapkan model pembelajaran guided inquiry berbantuan media audiovisual pada materi getaran dan gelombang. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah pre-experimental design dengan rancangan penelitian one groups pretest-posttest. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII UPT SMPN 9 Gresik dengan sampel kelas VIII-G. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah teknik observasi dan tes. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran terlaksana sangat baik dengan persentase rata-rata 93%. Rata-rata skor peningkatan hasil belajar dari pretest ke posttest adalah 0,65 yang tergolong ke dalam kategori sedang. Sehingga dapat dikatakan bahwa model guided inquiry berbantuan media audiovisual dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa.

Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to describe the improvement of scientific literacy after learning based on Socio-scientific Issues using the Problem-Based Learning model. Method: This study was analyzed quantitatively descriptively using N-Gain to determine the student's scientific literacy improvement. Using a one-group pre-posttest design, 29 undergraduate students of the science education department from a university in Indonesia participated in this pre-experimental study. The data was collected using an observation sheet of learning implementation and scientific literacy tests given before and after the learning. Finding: The results of this study showed that students' scientific literacy was improved after participating in learning based on Socio-scientific Issues using the Problem-Based Learning model. The scientific literacy was improved from (category low) in the pretest to (category medium) in the posttest, and the average N-gain score was 0,64 (medium category). Improving scientific literacy is also supported by the Socio-scientific Issues of learning using the Problem-Based Learning model implemented very well. Novelty: This study’s novelty was to describe each indicator of scientific literacy of the undergraduate students that was improved by using Socio-Scientific Issues in Problem-Based Learning. Hopefully, this study will be helpful for further research and give a solution for science teachers to improve students' scientific literacy.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan peningkatan hasil belajar dan respon peserta didik setelah penerapan media pembelajaran Kahoot! di kelas VIII pada pokok bahasan getaran dan gelombang. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian pra-eksperimen dan menggunakan desain one group pretest-posttest design dengan subjek penelitian peserta didik kelas VIII G SMP Negeri 30 Surabaya. Teknik analisis data dengan deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil data yang diperoleh dianalisis dari segi hasil belajar peserta didik dan respon peserta didik. Peningkatan hasil belajar peserta didik dapat diketahui dengan menggunakan analisis N-gain dari sampel yang sesuai. Peningkatan hasil belajar dapat diidentifikasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa berdasarkan N-Gain, persentase peserta didik yang memperoleh skor N-Gain dengan kategori tinggi sebesar 67%, kategori sedang sebesar 33%, dan kategori rendah sebesar 0%. Secara keseluruhan, respon peserta didik mendapatkan persentase sebesar 83% respon yang dikategorikan sangat baik pada pernyataan positif dan mendapatkan persentase sebesar 37% respon yang dikategorikan kurang pada pernyataan negatif. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran dengan menggunakan media Kahoot! pada pokok bahasan getaran dan gelombang pada peserta didik kelas VIII G SMP Negeri 30 Surabaya dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar peserta didik.

Abstract

Objective: This research is for the development of the TOSLS scientific literacy assessment instrument to determine the scientific literacy abilities of undergraduate science education students. Scientific literacy skills need to be known as a form of evaluation in learning. Scientific literacy skills are one of the abilities students must have after graduating from college and facing the work environment. Method: The quantitative method used in this research uses a Rasch model approach from 29 Bachelor of Science Education program students. Indicators of item suitability with Rasch model analysis measure this quality. The questions consist of 9 multiple choice questions with a correct score of 1 and an incorrect score of 0. Data processing uses MS Excel and SPSS 25 software. Results: The results show that all fit items, according to Rasch analysis, can be maintained without revision and used as a question instrument to measure the level of science literacy ability science for students with moderate scientific literacy abilities. Novelty: The research contribution of this question instrument can be used as reference material for evaluating the lecture process in biophysics courses on fermentation topics based on the level of scientific literacy ability.
