Abstract

The aims of this article to analyze and evaluate soybean self-sufficiency and import policies in Indonesia through policy simulations for the development of soybean self-sufficiency and imports in Indonesia. The data used in this study are annual secondary data in the form of a time series from 1995 to 2020. This research uses descriptive analysis methods, simultaneous equation models (2SLS) and alternative policy simulations. The results shows that The GDP per capita in Indonesia and the considerable 5% increase in the price of soya beans are just two of the favorable factors influencing imports. However, it also demonstrates that there are no external variables influencing Indonesia's export of soy beans. The yield of soy beans is also positively and significantly impacted by the area of the land. On the other hand, Indonesia's soya bean net export is negative and significant. There are several alternative scenarios for Indonesia's soybean policy, including the escalation of land-size (20%), GDP per capita (30%), and official exchange rate (10%). The result of the policy simulation shows that the land-size is important factor to encouraging Indonesian soybean self-sufficiency due to essential input factors.

Abstract

Ghana prioritizes the production of raw cocoa beans while engaging in trade for other commodities. Although cocoa holds significant economic importance for Ghana, there is a notable gap in research regarding the economic factors influencing cocoa exports, especially between European and Asian markets. The effects of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), trade taxes, and economic distance on trade flows, market accessibility, and sustainability in these regions remain ambiguous. This study utilized panel data from 2001 to 2023, employing the gravity model through Panel Ordinary Least Squares (POLS), Generalized Least Squares (GLS), and Poisson Pseudo-Maximization Likelihood (PPML) estimation methods. The findings indicate that Ghana's bilateral cocoa trade with European and Asian markets is significantly influenced by Ghana's GDP, the economies of its trading partners, international trade taxes, and economic distance. To enhance Ghana's bilateral cocoa trade, forming trade agreements with emerging Asian economies could reduce barriers and improve market access. Ghana should consider revising cocoa export duties to increase competitiveness and negotiate with trade partners to lower import tariffs on its cocoa products in Asian markets.

Abstract

The Indonesia Endowment Funds for Education (LPDP) has an important role in supporting the government's vision to create superior human resources for advanced Indonesia through the provision of scholarship programs. However, so far, LPDP has not measured the impact (output) generated by the alumni of the scholarship recipients. This study further aims to analyze how the LPDP scholarship program can affect the improvement of leadership aspects and social and economic contributions of the recipients. This study involved a sample of 388 LPDP scholarship recipients both from within and outside the country, who were selected through the stratified random sampling method. The collected data was then analyzed using PLS-SEM (Partial Square Least-Structural Equation Modeling) analysis. The results of the study show that the scholarship program is able to positively and significantly improve aspects of the leadership, social and economic contributions of alumni who are recipients of the LPDP scholarship program. Thus, the LPDP institution can increase the output generated from its alumni by optimizing the scholarship program through evaluation of the debriefing preparation program (PK), the establishment of empowerment and talent pooling programs, as well as increasing the intensity of cooperation (synergy) between LPDP recipient alumni organizations. Abstract

BPJS Ketenagakerjaan has a function to provide social security for employees who work in Indonesia, both Indonesian citizens and foreign citizens, including Indonesian migrant workers. BPJS Ketenagakerjaan participation in Indonesia is mandatory by law, but based on internal data of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan (2021) there are still many workers who have not become participants. Therefore, outreach is needed by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan to implement its function. Where 99,9% of participants and prospective participants are workers who work in micro, small and medium scale enterprises (MSMEs). This study aims to analyze the effect of outreach on the financial sustainability of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan and to describe whether there is a trade-off or compatible. This study uses secondary data in the form of a cross-section consisting of 122 BPJS Ketenagakerjaan main branch offices in Indonesia in 2018. The analytical method used in this study is the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) method. The outreach carried out by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan has effect on its financial sustainability. It can be concluded that there is a trade-off between outreach and the financial sustainability of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. This indicates that when BPJS Ketenagakerjaan wants to maintain its financial sustainability, it will reduce the outreach of services and potential participants. Abstract

Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) have an important and strategic role in national economic development. This study aims to identify and analyze problems in the implementation of microfinance services for MSEs in Indonesia and develop a collaborative model involving relevant stakeholders, especially financial institutions and universities, to support microfinance and improve the performance of MSEs in Indonesia. The research method used in this research is Soft Systems Methodology (SSM), utilizing data from FGDs, in-depth interviews, and observations. The results of the study show that financing constraints for MSEs can be seen from two perspectives, namely the MSEs themselves (demand side) and financial institutions (supply side). Collaborative models between various stakeholders, especially between financial institutions and universities, can be an alternative solution to strengthen access to microfinance services and improve the performance of micro and small businesses in Indonesia. In terms of transaction cost theory, universities can reduce the transaction costs of financial institutions through research, education, innovation, and partnerships with financial institutions. Therefore it can be concluded that collaboration between universities and financial institutions can make a valuable contribution to developing more efficient and cost-effective solutions in the financial industry, especially in increasing access to microfinance services and the performance of MSEs in Indonesia.
