Abstract

Intra-industry trade (IIT) is trade in the same product between one country and another. Cocoa is an Indonesian agricultural commodity that tends to carry out intra-industry trade. This research aims to analyze intra-industry trade relations between Indonesian Cocoa and trading partner countries and the factors that influence intra-industry trade in Indonesian Cocoa. This research uses panel data from a period from 2016-2021. The best model chosen was the Random Effect Model (REM). The analysis method used is the Intra Industry Trade Index and Gravity Model. The results of the analysis show that the country that has strong integration in intra-industry trade in cocoa is Indonesia and Malaysia. IIT in Indonesian cocoa with partner countries is still predominantly weakly integrated. The factors that influence intra-Indonesian cocoa industry trade are the average of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita between countries, differences in GDP between countries, differences in GDP per capita between countries, and foreign direct investment (FDI). The government needs to maintain IIT with Malaysia, which has strong integration and has the potential to increase FDI. Meanwhile, increasing intra-industry trade can be done by considering increased exports and transfer of technology and knowledge.

Abstract

This study aims to prove whether the efficiency wage theory applies in Indonesia using panel data analysis consisting of 33 provinces over a nine-year period (2010-2018). The theory posits that wage increases enhance worker productivity. The empirical findings confirm the validity of the efficiency wage theory in Indonesia, particularly in urban areas. Nominal wages have a larger positive impact on labor productivity compared to real wages and provincial minimum wages (PMW). An increase in women’s wages significantly influences labor productivity more than male wages. However, if the wage gap between males and womens widens, it can decrease aggregate labor productivity, leading to inefficiencies in the labor market and reducing the competitiveness of Indonesian workers. Geographically, wage increases in urban areas boost labor productivity, but this effect is not applicable to rural areas. The widening wage gap between urban and rural areas can increase labor productivity but may also widen development disparities between regions. Therefore, it is recommended that the government formulate wage policies supporting the welfare and productivity of workers without gender or regional discrimination. The People’s Representative Council (DPR) should enact comprehensive laws protecting women’s rights. The government, in collaboration with the legislature, can provide workforce training in rural areas to enhance knowledge and skills.

Abstract

Coffee as the second largest agricultural commodity export has contributed to the economies of various countries, including Indonesia. In addition to looking at the role of coffee commodity exports, an analysis of macroeconomic factors' impact on Indonesia's unemployment rate is also analyzed. Because it is known that the unemployment rate is not only caused by one sector but some things influence it, including macroeconomic factors. This study analyzes the role of coffee commodity exports and macroeconomic factors, including GDP, inflation, and interest rates, on Indonesia's unemployment rate. The data used in this study is interpolated secondary data for the period 2000 to 2021. The estimation method used in this study is Robust Least Square (ROBUSTLS) which will then be estimated again using the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) method as a robustness test.   The estimation results using the ROBUSTLS method prove that coffee commodity exports and macroeconomic factors significantly affect Indonesia's unemployment rate in aggregate. This form of influence is negative for coffee commodity exports (ExpCof), gross domestic product (GDP), and interest rate (IR). While inflation (Inf) has a positive impact on the unemployment rate (Ump). These findings are reinforced by the estimation results using the ARDL method with the result that ExpCof, GDP, and Inf have a significant relationship to Ump, while Inf is not as significant as the findings from the estimation results using the ROBUSTLS method.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the position and performance of Indonesia's natural rubber exports in terms of the concept of comparative advantage in the market world. The data used in this study were sourced from UN Comtrade, which is processed with a 30-year data series (1991-2020) and is categorized into six periods. The analytical methods used are Structural Trend Ranking (STR), Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), Export Product Dynamic (EPD), and X-Model. The results showed that 15 countries have consistently been the main Indonesian natural rubber market for 30 years. The RCA analysis showed that Indonesian natural rubber had strong competitiveness in all destination countries, except India in the first period. In contrast, the EPD analysis found that Indonesia's rubber market position was not always static and competitive. There was shown in the period 2011-2015, the average position of Indonesia's natural rubber market is in a market position that is not wanted to "retreat" in export destination countries. However, based on the X-Model results, the average Indonesian natural rubber is in a potential market position in all export destination countries in the 1991-2020 period. Abstract

Local economic development is one of the development policies that is considered appropriate and strategic in the context of regional development in Indonesia by optimally utilizing local resources. In line with this concept, the Government of Samosir Regency established a technopark as a centre for innovation based on inland fishery resources to encourage local economic activities for the community. The purpose of this study is to examine the strategy of the local government of Samosir Regency in developing the local economy through technopark based on inland fishery resources. The analytical tool used by the Analytical Network Process (ANP) includes analysis of aspects of factors, problems, solutions, and alternative strategies. Based on the results of the ANP analysis, the collaboration factor is the most influencing factor in strategy development. Meanwhile, in the problem aspect, the problem of limited infrastructure, low public interest and weak commitment, are the main problems that need to be resolved, so that the solution aspect becomes a priority is building trust between stakeholders, allocation of financing for infrastructure and socialization of coaching programs to the community. The formulation of the main strategy for local economic development through the development of technoparks based on the results of the ANP analysis is to build multi-stakeholder synergy to support local economic development in Samosir Regency.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The Anambas Islands is one of the regions in the Riau Islands province with a vast proportion of sea, accounting for 98.74 percent of its total area. Through the mechanism of decentralization, most of the functions of marine and fisheries gradually become part of the affairs of the district/city. The transfer of authority is accompanied by the transfer of financing through a balance fund, so that with the increasing funds managed by the region, it is expected that the development of marine and fisheries will improve. DAK is one of the fiscal instruments of the balance fund, which plays an important role in achieving national priority areas (DJPK 2016). As noted by BAPPENAS (2013) in the national development priorities 2015-2019, the main issues and challenges in the development of marine and fisheries are suboptimal production infrastructure, namely in the capture fleet, ports, agricultural roads, land, and access to business development (capital and markets). The aim of this research is to formulate strategies for managing the Special Allocation Fund (DAK) in the marine and fisheries sector from 2011 to 2016 in the Anambas Islands Regency using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. Based on the AHP method, the priority strategies include the evaluation of regulations related to DAK management, the placement of support personnel, socialization and law enforcement, improving coordination systems, and forming Joint Business Groups. Abstract

Abstract

Background: Economic development in open economies like Indonesia was marked by international trade. Starting with the restoration of diplomatic relations in 1990, China emerged as one of the biggest trading partners for Indonesia. However, Indonesia's competitiveness in the international market remained at a concerning level compared to other major exporters.Purpose: The research was conducted on the competitiveness of Indonesia's agriculture exports to China during 2019-2023, for certain commodities, and described Indonesia's current market position and growth prospects.Design/Methodology/Approach: The paper applied the Revealed Comparative Advantage and the methodologies of Export Product Dynamics in order to judge Indonesia's competitive position in major agricultural products, such as coconut, cashew nut, Brazil nut, coffee, nutmeg, cardamom, palm oil, copra, and natural rubber.Findings/Result: The analysis showed that nutmeg and cardamom showed outstanding growth, placing them in the "Rising Stars" status in the Chinese market, as evidenced by their high export share growth coupled with a high increase in global market share. On the other hand, palm oil and copra recorded negative competitiveness, leading into the "Retreat" quadrant. Conclusion: The study suggested that to build Indonesia's competitiveness in agricultural exports, it was important to improve quality and value addition through processing, besides non-tariff barrier understanding. These strategies would further fortify Indonesia's market position and trade performance at large with China and globally.Originality/value (State of the art): For the first time, this research performed updated research on agri-food products export competitiveness of Indonesia to the Chinese market, by using updated data availability (2019-2023) and combined methodology approach between RCA and EPD. The obtained insights would be very important guidance for policymakers in the formulation of endorsing better trade policies in agricultural commodities within Indonesia to increase its presence in world markets. Abstract

Unemployment is a problem experienced by all countries without exception. The availability of job opportunities is a common focus for countries in the world, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. Unemployment in Indonesia is still dominated by young people (15-24 years old). This study analyzes the factors driving youth unemployment in Indonesia using panel data regression methods for the period of 2015-2021 in 34 provinces. The results found that the variables of youth education level, economic growth, TPAK, contribution of the agricultural sector and processing industry, and wage levels had a negative and significant effect on youth unemployment. The investment variable and the economic crisis dummy during the Covid-19 pandemic have a positive and significant effect on youth unemployment in Indonesia. This study recommends that the government should improve the education system to suit the needs of the working world and create graduates who are ready to work. The government is expected to realize equal distribution of educational opportunities. The government is also expected to encourage large companies entering Indonesia to collaborate with local companies and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The government is also expected to increase employment opportunities for young population, especially in provinces that have low TPAK.AbstrakPengangguran merupakan masalah yang dialami oleh semua negara tanpa terkecuali.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of information and communication technologies (ICT) is anticipated to effectively solve various economic issues including unemployment in developing countries. However, unemployment in Indonesia has fluctuation and is predominantly affecting the youth population. Additionally, researchers hold different views regarding the impact of ICT development on youth unemployment. Some researchers suggest a positive relationship between ICT and youth unemployment, while others argue that ICT can have detrimental effects on job opportunities and potentially increase youth unemployment. This study aims to describe ICT development and analyze the influence of ICT development on youth unemployment in Indonesia. This research used a dynamic panel methodology and utilizes two indicators of ICT development: mobile phone users and internet users across 33 provinces in Indonesia at 2010-2021. The results of this estimation indicate that mobile phone users and internet users do not significantly impact the youth unemployment model. The variables inflation, foreign and domestic investment and the lagged unemployment have a significant effect on youth enemployment
