Abstract

The supply of red chili in various regions in Indonesia still relies on production from Java. Different uses of production factors are insufficient to overcome production gap between Java and other regions, so measuring other factors is required. This study aims to analyze the factors affecting red chili production, identify the technical efficiency level of red chili, and analyze factors affecting the technical efficiency of red chili in Java and outside Java. This study used data from the 2013 Agricultural Census (ST2013) and the 2014 Horticultural Crop Farming Household Survey from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). The SFA (Stochastic Frontier Analysis) method was applied to estimate the technical efficiency levels and the factors influencing it. The results revealed that factors such as seeds, harvest area, N-fertilizer, K-fertilizer, manure, pesticides, and labor affect red chili production in Java. Outside Java, the influencing factors are seeds, harvest area, N-fertilizer, P-fertilizer, manure, pesticides, and labor. The technical efficiency of red chili in Java (0.640) is lower than outside Java (0.691), indicating outside Java more technically efficient than Java. The significant factors affecting the technical efficiency of red chili farming in Java include education, participation in farmer groups, participation in cooperatives, land type, growing season, subsidies, technology, certified seeds, and access to credit. Conversely, outside Java, only cooperative participation, land type, growing season, and technology have a significant impact. Assistance in using subsidized inputs and access to credit in Java and the development of cooperative institutions outside Java are policies that can be taken.

Abstract

Background: Indonesia and China are the world's major exporters of plywood. ASEAN+3 is one of the plywood importing regions with a share of 20% so it is one of the plywood export destinations. Purpose: This has led to competition between the two countries in the plywood trade, especially the ASEAN+3 region. This study aims to analyze the comparison of Indonesia and China's plywood export competitiveness in the ASEAN+3 market and the factors that influence it. Design/methodology/approach: This study uses ten ASEAN+3 countries in the 2015-2022 period using the RCA, EPD, X-Model, and regression analysis methods. Findings/Result: The results of the RCA value of Indonesia and China are strongly competitive in the majority of ASEAN+3 countries. EPD shows Indonesia's plywood rising star position in seven countries and China's plywood rising star in only four countries. The X-Model method shows Brunei, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam have the potential to be optimistic markets for the development of Indonesian plywood exports, while Chinese plywood exports have the same potential in Malaysia, Myanmar, and Vietnam. Conclusion: It is concluded that Indonesia's plywood competitiveness is better than China's. Factors affecting Indonesia's plywood export volume are real GDP, population, export price, RCA value, and real exchange rate of the importing country.Originality/value (State of the art): Therefore, this study recommends several strategies such as market strengthening through certification and improving the quality of Indonesian plywood. Keywords: competitiveness, EPD, plywood, RCA, regression analysis

Abstract

There is a disparity in red chili production between actual and potential which causes the available supply to be inadequate to cover the high demand. Production problems could not only be identified through production factors but also other factors that contribute to the issue. Technical efficiency is an analytical method that measuring production factors and out-of-production factors simultaneously. This study aims to measure the level of technical efficiency of red chili farming, to analyze the factors that influence red chili production, and to analyze the factors that influence the technical efficiency of red chili farming. This study employs secondary data from the 2013 Agricultural Census Results of the 2014 Horticultural Crop Farming Household Subsector Survey (ST2013 SHR), Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS). Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) is a method of estimating the level of technical efficiency of red chili farming and the factors that affect it. The results revealed that the average level of technical efficiency of Indonesian red chili farms was 0.6525. This level implies that Indonesian red chili farms still have the opportunity to be improved. Seeds, N-element fertilizers, P-element fertilizers, manures, pesticides and labor are factors that can affect red chili production. Education, technologies, participation in farmer groups, planting seasons, land types, cropping systems and certified seeds are factors that can raise the technical efficiency of red chili farming while access to credit and subsidies can reduce the technical efficiency of red chili farming. Assistance in the use of subsidies and credit is a policy the government could take in enhancing the technical efficiency of Indonesian red chili farms besides the technology use and dry season planting.

Abstract

Efficiency is an important indicator needed by a bank to survive in tight competition, change in consumer behavior, and increase economic cooperation among countries. The objective of this study was to analyze the efficiency of BUMN Bank of BUKU Empat and its determinants. The method used to analyze the efficiency was the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) by Variable Return to Scale (VRS) Approach. Besides, the analysis of its determinants used Data Panel regression. During the research periods, several findings were provided. Firstly, Bank BRI has resulted in the highest score of efficiency. Secondly, the results of data panel regression suggested that Loan to Deposit Ratio (LDR), the share of the deposit (PDPK), Return on Asset (ROA), Exchange Rate (ER), and GDP Growth (GDP) were positively related to. Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), Total Asset (TA), and Inflation (INF) were negatively related. The future studies suggested to use a more extended data period and compared with banks in countries that have the same economic character.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the volatility connectedness between various categories of ESG scores of Indonesian companies with local and global market factors during the COVID-19 pandemic. We use daily price data of 42 Indonesian companies over the period from 2018 to 2022 and employ the GARCH model, further enriched by the Diebold-Yilmaz method, to analyze the spillover effect and connectedness. Companies with the lowest ESG category (D) exhibited the highest volatility throughout the observed period. All ESG categories experienced a significant increase in volatility during the COVID-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, companies with higher ESG categories (B) had the highest level of connectedness with domestic and global factors, both before and after the pandemic. In contrast, companies with the lowest ESG category (D) exhibited the lowest level of connectedness with domestic and global factors. The volatility spillovers indicate that both global (DJI) and domestic (LQ45) stock markets are the primary sources of spillovers for all ESG categories. This underscores the importance of understanding ESG category characteristics and market risk dynamics in ESG investment strategies. The study identifies significant differences between the risk profiles of ESG categories in the Indonesian capital market, with systematic risks affecting companies with high ESG ratings, while companies with low ESG ratings are more susceptible to idiosyncratic risks. These findings suggest the need for tailored diversification strategies in ESG investment and highlight the importance of considering these dynamics for investors, market regulators, and investment managers.

Abstract

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) plays a pivotal role in Indonesia’s economic growth. However, its realization is significantly influenced by various economic factors, particularly macroeconomic stability. This study aims to analyze the impact of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the previous period, inflation, gross domestic product (GDP) in the previous period, and the economic crisis dummy on foreign direct investment (FDI) in Indonesia. The study utilizes annual time series data covering the period from 1995 to 2023. A quantitative approach is employed, applying a multiple regression model analyzed using the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method. The findings indicate that, simultaneously, foreign direct investment (FDI) in the previous period, inflation, gross domestic product (GDP) in the previous period, and the economic crisis dummy significantly influence foreign direct investment (FDI) in Indonesia. Partially, foreign direct investment (FDI) in the previous period has a significant and positive effect, inflation has a significant and negative effect, and gross domestic product (GDP) in the previous period has a significant and positive effect. Meanwhile, the economic crisis dummy does not have any significant impact on the constructed model.

Abstract

Intra-industry trade (IIT) is trade in the same product between one country and another. Cocoa is an Indonesian agricultural commodity that tends to carry out intra-industry trade. This research aims to analyze intra-industry trade relations between Indonesian Cocoa and trading partner countries and the factors that influence intra-industry trade in Indonesian Cocoa. This research uses panel data from a period from 2016-2021. The best model chosen was the Random Effect Model (REM). The analysis method used is the Intra Industry Trade Index and Gravity Model. The results of the analysis show that the country that has strong integration in intra-industry trade in cocoa is Indonesia and Malaysia. IIT in Indonesian cocoa with partner countries is still predominantly weakly integrated. The factors that influence intra-Indonesian cocoa industry trade are the average of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita between countries, differences in GDP between countries, differences in GDP per capita between countries, and foreign direct investment (FDI). The government needs to maintain IIT with Malaysia, which has strong integration and has the potential to increase FDI. Meanwhile, increasing intra-industry trade can be done by considering increased exports and transfer of technology and knowledge.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to provide a literature review of green bonds and their relation with other financial assets. Most of the research that has been conducted has focused on the spillover transmission from the financial asset market to the green bond market. The method used to select and analyze the results of journal reviews is Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). The journals used in this study are Scopus-indexed journals, which are searched using the keywords green bond, cointegration, transmission, and spillover. The result indicates that green bonds can be used as an alternative in diversifying portfolio instruments. Based on previous studies, it was found that there was spillover transmission from the financial asset market to the green bond market. This indicates that volatility in the financial market will spill over and affect the green bond market. This study can be used as a strategy for making investment decisions, especially in building investment portfolios.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic created significant turmoil in global financial markets, including the Indonesia Stock Exchange, where liquidity and stability were severely disrupted by widespread panic and economic uncertainty. Investors faced heightened risks as stock prices fluctuated sharply in response to rapidly changing market conditions. This study examines the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on stock volatility and performance by comparing conventional liquid stocks from the LQ45 index with sustainable stocks from the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) indices. Using daily closing prices from January 1, 2016, to December 31, 2023, the analysis employs the Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity (GARCH) model to capture volatility patterns. The findings reveal that LQ45 stocks consistently exhibit higher volatility than ESG stocks, yet deliver superior returns across all periods. Conversely, ESG stocks show greater resilience during the pandemic, maintaining relatively stable performance despite lower returns compared to LQ45. These results underscore the value of incorporating sustainable investment strategies, particularly when combined with liquidity considerations, as a means to balance risk and return while enhancing portfolio stability during periods of market uncertainty.
