Abstract

Students ability to solve mathematics problems, especially problem-solving questions, is still relatively low despite the 2013 curriculum requiring students to be able to solve such questions and expecting the learning process to apply a scientific approach. This learning process requires students to be more engaged and teachers to facilitate students experiencing difficulties during the learning process. However, teachers have a little knowledge of the difficulties experienced by students in the learning process because the learning process conducted in the classroom does not provide enough information concerning the students difficulties. Students self-assessment can help students in identifying their difficulties, and the teacher can choose the right strategies to overcome them. Therefore, it is necessary to develop learning instruments encouraging students to engage more in assessing their abilities which in turn improving their problem-solving abilities. This study aimed to develop and produce the valid, practical and effective self-assessment sheet and student worksheet to improve students problem-solving skills employing scientific approach. This study was development research referring to the Dick and Carey model. The learning instruments trials were conducted at one of the junior high schools in Banda Aceh. The results of the study found that the self-assessment sheet and student worksheet employing the scientific approach satisfied the criteria of being valid, practical and effective. Thus, teachers and students can use this self-assessment sheet and worksheet to improve the quality of learning in schools.

Abstract

Currently, some students habitually answering questions with one answer. They only use the certain formula or certain steps to get answer. Thus, the ability of problem-solving and optimism that should have owned by students is not visible because of the habit of completing routine problem. Whereas the ability problem-solving and optimism is needed in the face of all the challenges that occur. This is becaused people who are able to solve the problem would be receive every event, whether it is good or bad events. They will seek the solution of problem faced and anticipate every possibility that occurs to the measures that have been selected. This study aims to determine (1) the ability of students to problem-solving and (2) optimism of students in problem-solving. This is qualitative research with test of problem solving and guided interview of optimism as instruments. Subject of this research is six students grade VIII of Junior High School at Peukan Pidie, Aceh. The results show that three students have good problem-solving ability, three other students have enough abilitiy in problem-solving. Optimism of students in problem-solving based on the dimensions of optimism is three students optimist at dimension PMG, three other students not optimist. One student was optimist on the dimensions of PVG, five other students not optimist. Five students are optimist on the dimensions of PSG and PMB, one student not optimist. All students are optimist on the dimensions of PVB. Two students are optimist on the dimensions of PSB, four students are not optimist

Abstract

One of the goals of learning mathematics in school is to improve the ability of problem solving, the student was required to have a higher thinking skills such as critical thinking skills. Use of appropriate critical thinking skills will greatly assist students in improving problem-solving abilities. In addition to critical thinking, another very important aspect to be improved in mathematics learning is positive views of students towards mathematics or known as mathematical disposition. Problem posing approach that requires students to ask questions and make the settlement is expected to be able to develop students 'thinking skills, especially critical thinking skills and mathematical change students' views of mathematics became more positive. This study aims to assess the improvement of critical thinking skills and dispositions that are taught to students' mathematical problem posing approach and students are taught with conventional teaching. This study is a design experiment using pre-test post-test control group design. The population in this study is the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 9 Banda Aceh in the school year 2012-2013. Samples were taken two classes VII3 class as the experimental class and the class as a class VII4 control through random sampling technique. The instrument used to obtain research data is test critical thinking skills questionnaire sheet-scale mathematical and mathematical disposition. The statistical test used to analyze the data increase critical thinking skills and dispositions are mathematically ANOVA test two paths. The results showed that an increase in critical thinking skills and dispositions that are taught to students' mathematical problem posing approach better than students taught with conventional teaching.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the quality of the four-tier multiple choice diagnostic test instrument and the level of students' misconceptions. The research method used is research and development (R&D). The population in this study were class IX students at MTs Negeri 2 Aceh Besar. The number of samples consisted of 112 students in group A, each class consisted of 16 students during the Covid-19 pandemic. The research instrument used is a four-tier multiple choice diagnostic test. The data analysis technique in the validation test obtained a high and valid Aiken's V coefficient value. The results in terms of item analysis quantitatively obtained the validity of the questions 75% valid and 15% invalid, the reliability test was 0.786 high category. The level of difficulty of the questions includes 85% too easy questions and 15% easy questions. The differentiating power of the questions obtained in each category is 5% very good, 55% good, 20% sufficient and 20% bad. The results of the students' level of misconceptions using the four-tier multiple choice diagnostic test were obtained from the results of the overall analysis of students with an average of 21.76% and the results of the item analysis showed that the highest student misconceptions were in question number five with a percentage of 11.6% and the lowest found in question number four with a percentage of 0%.

Abstract

This study aims to identify misconceptions experienced by students, the level of scientific literacy skills and the relationship between misconceptions and scientific literacy skills on global warming. The research method used is correlational research with a quantitative approach. The sample selected was 80 students using purposive sampling technique. The instrument used was 10 items to measure misconceptions with a four-tier multiple choice diagnostic test and 10 test items to measure scientific literacy skills. The results of the analysis of misconceptions with CRI showed that the category of misconceptions was 44% with moderate criteria, students who understood the concept were 32% and did not understand the concept by 32%. The results of the analysis of scientific literacy skills obtained an average value of 40.65, a percentage of 40.7% and is in the low category after interpretation. The aspect of scientific literacy that is measured in the highest percentage is the context aspect with an average percentage of 48.1%, the knowledge aspect is 40.4% and the competence aspect is 34.1%. The results of the analysis of the relationship between misconceptions and scientific literacy skills were carried out using the Pearson product moment correlation test which showed a positive and significant relationship with a significant value of 0.008 < 0.05 and a large correlation value of 0.270 with a low category. Based on the hypothesis test, the results show that there is a positive relationship between misconceptions and scientific literacy skills with tcount 2.476 > ttable 1.990.
