Abstract

Kajang is one of the essential elements in Balinese death rites. Kajang, as a symbol, has visual communication because it is a representation of the meanings of life. This research aims to classify the Kajang's appearance and interpret the Kajang's rerajahan from a visual communication perspective as the ceremony's spirit. The benefit of this research is that it can be used as a reference in classifying the visual appearance of awnings and is useful for understanding the meaning of awnings, so that awnings can be widely recognized by the Balinese people. The research method used is a critical qualitative method with the point of view of cultural studies.The results show that in the Hindu tradition, especially in Bali, Kajang is written in the Modre script and the Swalalita script and then placed on the curvature of the person to be incised. The types of Kajang in the composition of Ulaka Warih Ida Bhatara Dalem Benculuk Tegeh Kori, namely; (1) Kajang Klasa Walaka, (2) Kajang Pemijilan Walaka, (3) Kajang Kawitan Walaka, (4) Kajang Recedana Walaka, and (5) Kajang Sari/ Siwa Walaka. Kajang in Balinese Hindu tradition is a symbol (pengawak) of the spiritual and physical bodies of people who have died. In visual communication, Kajang is an illustration that explains a narrative of life. Religiously, the Kajang is a religious symbol with the meanings of human life.

Abstract

Peken Senggol Gurat merupakan sebuah project pasar seni lokal yang digagas oleh pelaku budaya Komunitas Budaya Gurat Indonesia. Namun pada saat perilisan perdana di tahun 2022, persepsi audiens tentang Peken Senggol Gurat belum terhubung dengan baik. Perancangan ini memiliki dua tujuan yaitu; 1.) Merancang konsep identitas visual Peken Senggol Gurat, dan 2.) memvisualisasikan konsep identitas visual Peken Senggol Gurat. Perancangan ini menggunakan metode design thinking yaitu empathize, define, ideate, prototype, dan test. Metode pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik observasi, wawancara, studi literatur dan dokumentasi. Teori yang diterapkan pada perancangan ini adalah teori identitas visual dan brand awareness. Hasil dari perancangan ini yaitu; 1.) Konsep identitas visual terdiri dari logo, warna, tipografi, aset grafis, dan layout. Logo menggunakan konsep logotype, warna menggunakan konsep kontras, tipografi menggunakan konsep vernakular, aset grafis menggunakan konsep garis, dan layout menggunakan konsep asimetris. 2.) Visualisasi konsep identitas visual terdiri dari logo, warna, tipografi, aset grafis, dan layout yang dilakukan dengan tahap merancang konsep, sketsa, dan editing. Identitas visual yang telah dirancang kemudian diterapkan pada kebutuhan desain Peken Senggol Gurat. Setelah penerapan karya, dilakukan uji coba dan analisis karya identitas visual. Berdasarkan uji coba karya desain yang telah dilakukan melalui kuisioner kepada responden, hasil kuisioner menunjukkan bahwa desain-desain yang telah dirancang mampu dijadikan identitas visual Peken Senggol Gurat ke depannya.

Abstract

Pilkada Kota Mataram memerlukan pendekatan yang inovatif dalam komunikasi visual untuk meningkatkan keterlibatan masyarakat. Mutiara, maskot yang dirancang khusus untuk Pilkada Kota Mataram, hadir sebagai simbol yang menggambarkan keindahan, ketulusan, dan nilai-nilai demokrasi yang diusung dalam proses pemilihan kepala daerah. Akan tetapi, bagaimana peran Mutiara sebagai penguat identitas pilkada kota Mataram. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengkaji peran simbol Mutiara dalam maskot pilkada Kota Mataram tahun 2024. Metode yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan berlandasan teori semiotika Roland Barthes. Hasil penelitian ini mengungkap peran simbol Mutiara dalam maskot pilkada Kota Mataram tahun 2024, sebagai kekuatan budaya lokal yang indah serta ketulusan Masyarakat dalam mensukseskan pesta demokrasi yang diselenggarakan lima tahunan. Implikasi hasil penelitian ini sebagai refrensi teoritik dalam memahami penguat identitas jenama pilkada.

Abstract

This study explores the application of the “association picture story” genre in documentary filmmaking, particularly focusing on the film “Herediaqua,” to effectively communicate water sustainability issues. The research employs a three-stage methodology: exploration (field research, observation, interviews, and collection of visual materials), experimentation (applying association picture story techniques in short film formats and testing with audiences), and creation (synthesizing findings to produce a cohesive and impactful film).Results indicate that “Herediaqua” successfully uses strong visual symbolism and narrative to convey messages about the interconnectedness between humans and nature, effectively enhancing audience awareness and understanding of water sustainability issues. The film employs powerful visual language to communicate its environmental message, evoking emotional responses from viewers. Positive audience feedback confirms the film’s success in communicating its message, demonstrating the effectiveness of the association picture story technique in visual narration. The conclusion asserts that the “association picture story” technique is a powerful tool for conveying environmental messages through visual storytelling. “Herediaqua” serves not only as a viewing experience but also as an educational medium and a catalyst for inspiring environmental conservation efforts. By leveraging compelling visual narration and engaging storytelling, the film promotes awareness and encourages concrete actions for sustaining the planet’s life. This research contributes to advancing documentary filmmaking by highlighting the effectiveness of combining visual symbolism with strong narrative techniques.

Abstract

The Mekepung tradition in Jembrana, Bali, particularly in the form of buffalo racing, is a deeply rooted cultural spectacle representing joy and celebration for agrarian communities. This research aims to explore this tradition and create a documentary film to preserve and promote its significance. Employing a qualitative descriptive method and utilizing the documentary film structure approach, the study incorporates observation, interviews, and documentation to gather authentic data. The documentary follows a three-part story structure, capturing the essence of Mekepung through genuine visual presentations and a well-structured narrative flow. Embracing a performative documentary style, the film emphasizes captivating packaging and meticulous craftsmanship. The creation process encompasses pre-production, production, and post-production stages. Ultimately, the Mekepung Jembrana documentary not only showcases buffalo racing but also serves as a vital tool for cultural preservation and awareness for future generations, ensuring the continuity of this cherished tradition.

Abstract

Secara etimologi, kata Bhūta Kala terdiri dari dua kata yaitu Bhūta yang bermakna sesuatu yang ada dan kala yang bermakna kekuatan atau energi. Kata Bhūta juga dapat diartikan sebagai unsur-unsur alam yang terdiri dari lima elemen yang disebut dengan Panca Maha Bhūta yaitu unsur tanah, air, api, udara, dan ether (udara). Masyarakat Hindu Bali memiliki berbagai ritual keagamaan yang berhubungan dengan Bhūta Kala yang disebut dengan Bhūta Yadnya. Tujuan Bhūta Yadnya adalah untuk menjaga keharmonisan antara manusia dengan alam. Dalam perkembangannya, Bhūta Kala ini digunakan dalam produk-produk yang dikonsumsi oleh manusia. Salah satunya adalah produk kopi “Leak Bali”. Hal ini disebabkan oleh pariwisata yang menyebabkan terjadi pergeseran makna pada simbol-simbol tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui makna Bhūta Kala dalam kehidupan masyarakat Bali dan makna Bhūta Kala dalam kemasan produk kopi “leak Bali”. Manfaat penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat pergeseran makna Bhūta Kala dalam kehidupan masyarakat Bali. Metodologi yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan analisis menggunakan teori semiotika dari Roland Barthes. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa makna Bhūta Kala dalam kehidupan masyarakat Bali adalah kekuatan, penjaga, dan hukum alam. Makna denotasi Bhūta Kala dalam kemasan kopi “leak Bali” adalah janda, makna konotasi kekuatan ilmu sihir, dan makna mitologinya adalah produk yang nikmat.

Abstract

Public education media plays an important role in conveying information to the public effectively, especially regarding government agency and company services that have a direct impact on public welfare. Perum Bulog Kanwil Bali as a food logistics company has a strategic function in maintaining the availability and stability of food prices in the Bali region. However, the lack of public understanding of Bulog's role and services creates a need for educational media that can convey information clearly and attractively. This study aims to design public education media that educates the public about the functions and services of Perum Bulog Kanwil Bali, especially in the management of food logistics such as procurement, distribution, and storage of staple foods. The methods used in designing this media include analyzing the information needs of the community, reviewing literature, and applying the principles of visual communication design. The resulting media include infographics, animated videos, and digital campaigns that can be accessed through various platforms.

Abstract

A common phenomenon from time to time is that you can always find visual aspects on the tailgate of various visual idioms, ranging from images of women, idols, panoramas, words of satire, motivation, and humorous diction. Often the themes depicted are nearby phenomena and events that are “hits” in the community. Then it becomes a habitus that reinforces that the image on the truck bed turns the street into a showcase. The research focus is realized in the objectives of this study; (1) Describing visual data through 5 images in the form of female public figures who are often discussed in the world of entertainment information in Indonesia. (2) Analyzing the visual form of the female public figure is considered to represent the meaning of symbols and texts that can be interpreted. The research method used is descriptive qualitative through a hermeneutic approach to describe the contextual experience of the results of obtaining research data on the female figure on the tailgate. The research procedure was carried out through the process of collecting field data, identifying the results of further observations, literature review, extracting data through primary sources through in-depth interviews with selected sources including; members of the poor truck community, individuals who apply formal authority and local informal actors. The researcher used the principle of Paul Ricouer's Critical Hermeneutics study. The results of the research presented; (1) unfold the interpretation of symbolic meaning, that the tailgate artwork often uses symbols in the medium of expression of the tailgate to describe various social conditions and cultural contexts of everyday life which are an integral part of cultural identity. Abstract

The study identified the brand image of the cosmetic packaging moisturizer MS Glow. MS Glows is a local cosmetics brand in Indonesia, one of its best products is Moisturizers which won the first championship as the best local moisturizer of the year 2022. Qualitative descriptive methods with observation techniques, literature, and documentation are used in this research. The theoretical framework used included a visual appeal approach (Kotler and Amstrong) and brand image (Keller). The results showed that the moisturizer packaging of three variants (yuzu, watermelon, cactus, and grape seed) consists of primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging. Practical shapes, lightweight materials, colors in harmony with product variants, a combination of serif and sans serif letters, illustrations highlighting the main materials, and an asymmetrical layout. Three brand image components, namely the strength of the brand association, the benefits of its association, and the uniqueness of brand associations evaluate the ideal and accurate design of the MS Glow moisturizer packaging so that products spread across the market can be trusted. This study shows that an ideal visual appeal can build relevant packaging and open up opportunities for MS Glow to create products with their distinctive image.

Abstract

Desa Wisata Yehembang Kangin merupakan salah satu desa di wilayah Kabupaten Jembrana yang terdiri dari lima banjar dengan potensi yang beragam. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memetakan potensi dan wilayah Desa Wisata Yehembang Kangin serta mengevaluasi kesesuaian konsep destination branding dengan pengelolaan destinasi berbasis pemberdayaan masyarakat. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan studi pustaka, kemudian dianalisis secara interaktif melalui reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Pemetaan potensi dilakukan berdasarkan komponen desa wisata, seperti daya tarik wisata, fasilitas pendukung, aksesibilitas, dan kelembagaan, serta aspek lingkungan hidup yang mencakup keberlanjutan ekosistem, pengelolaan sumber daya alam, dan keselarasan budaya dengan lingkungan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Desa Wisata Yehembang Kangin memiliki potensi utama berupa keunikan daya tarik budaya, panorama alam, serta potensi agrowisata yang terintegrasi dengan kehidupan masyarakat lokal. Konsep destination branding yang diterapkan telah berhasil mendukung identitas desa wisata ini melalui pemberdayaan masyarakat, promosi nilai lokal, dan pengelolaan berbasis partisipasi komunitas, sehingga menciptakan identitas yang kuat dan berdaya saing sebagai destinasi wisata.
