Abstract

Cianjur Regency is known as the top ten rice producers in West Java, precisely in the fifth position. Rice from Cianjur is not only known at the local level, but also known at the regional and even national level. One of the well-known rice varieties is the pandanwangi variety, namely the local bulu variety (javanica) Cianjur Agriculture Service, 2011. This rice variety has several advantages, in addition to delicious taste, pandanus fragrance and the price is much more expensive than premium rice. However, recently the pandanwangi rice planting area continues to decrease, even in 2017 the harvest area is only 14 930 hectares. This phenomenon indicates that there is a discrepancy between the behavior of farmers and the support of the government, which makes pandanwangi rice an icon of the city of Cianjur. The question arises how the behavior of farmers in farming pandanwangi rice. The purpose of this study was to determine the perceptions and motivations of farmers to plant pandanwangi rice; and farmers' income from pandanwangi rice farming. Design This study uses a quantitative design with a survey technique on 88 farmers in Warungkondang District, Cianjur. The results of the research on farmers' perceptions of the geographical environment are very supportive; government support is very good, and the motivation of farmers to plant fragrant pandan rice in addition to maintaining the availability of household food, has made pandanwangi an icon of the city of Cianjur.

Abstract

Farmer’s households often carry out migration activities as a form of livelihood strategy. The remittances generated are expected to impact improving the welfare of farmer households. This study aimed to analyze changes in the welfare of farmer households due to the migration carried out. This study uses panel data from the Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS) wave 4 (in 2007) and wave 5 (in 2014). The unit of analysis of this study is a farmer’s household in West Java Province, whose one or all of their family members migrated between 2007-2014. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to see changes in welfare levels before and after migration. The results showed that the migration carried out by farmers impacted changes in the level of welfare both objectively and subjectively. The increase in asset ownership and respondents' perceptions of welfare indicators tend to be higher after they migrate. Assistance to migrant households needs to be carried out so that the remittances produced can be used optimally to improve household welfare.

Abstract

The concept of entrepreneurial ecosystem has an impact on social enterprises carried out by their actors, on the other hand, social entrepreneurs also influence the performance of the entrepreneurial ecosystem, encouraging the growth of new businesses that will also indirectly grow the entrepreneurial ecosystem in a region. This research focuses on seeing how the ecosystems of entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship complement each other or perhaps weaken each other. The entrepreneurial ecosystem has an important role in the development of social entrepreneurship, and vice versa, that social entrepreneurship can influence the development of an entrepreneurial ecosystem. The concept of the entrepreneurial ecosystem and social entrepreneurship has a positive feedback effect, strengthening each other, but not affecting each other linearly. Research opportunities regarding the ecosystem of entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship are the development of methodologies to analyze a system more comprehensively. Qualitative methods in our opinion are suitable to be used to look at various relationships in a system such as this entrepreneurial ecosystem. Data and information obtained from qualitative techniques make it easier for researchers to understand the diverse characteristics of an entrepreneurial ecosystem, understanding the various dynamics that occur within them. Despite the differences, in principle, these two concepts appear to contribute positively to economic development and improve the welfare of the community.

Abstract

Agriculture globally is still dominated by small-scale farmers which means that investment is still needed to change their quality of life for the better. Investment in innovation in agriculture is expected to not only alleviate poverty, but also improve the welfare of farmers and rural communities. To create this, collaboration between agricultural actors is needed, so as to encourage actors to play roles according to their respective functions, strengthening each other so that in aggregate it can increase farmers' productivity. Productivity growth, agricultural efficiency and reducing the impact of agriculture on the environment arise due to various studies conducted on the agricultural sector. Rural poor still rely on agriculture as their main livelihood, therefore investment in agriculture is an important factor in efforts to reduce poverty in rural areas, namely by improving agricultural performance. Collaboration between the government and the private sector is expected to improve soft skills and hard skills from each party, so as to improve services to agricultural stakeholders optimally. The government and agricultural stakeholders always collaborate with each other to encourage agricultural ecosystems that are able to overcome food insecurity and create sustainable agriculture. With the right model of iolaborasi, science-based innovation can encourage the strengthening of the agricultural industry and increase the level of welfare of smallholder farmers in rural areas.

Abstract

Since 2016 there has been a significant shift in farming to chayote commodities in Pasirjambu District, Bandung Regency. Gapoktan Regge Regeneration is a pioneer of chayote farming. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors most considered by farmers in choosing chayote farming and the feasibility of chayote farming. The research method used is qualitative with a case study approach with data collection techniques through interviews, observation, focus group discussions, and a documentation study involving 15 informants selected by the snowball sampling technique. Data were analyzed using AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) and RC ratio analysis. The results showed that the most considered factors were economic factors (0,623), followed by social factors and then technical factors in third place. At the criteria level, the profit criteria (0,320) are the criteria that are most considered by farmers to cultivate chayote and after that are the criteria for market availability, farming experience, age, availability of capital, cultivation ability, tools, education level, and availability of seeds at the lowest level. At this time, chayote farming in Pasirjambu District is still profitable and feasible. This can be illustrated by the value of the RC ratio which is greater than 1, the RC ratio is 2,17.

Abstract

Rice is a basic need for some Indonesian people. One of the policies to increase paddy rice production carried out by the government during the Old Order and the New Order era was the intensification and extensification program. Development programs through extensification are mainly carried out outside Java through the transmigration program. One of the provinces that have carried out rice field extensification by inviting transmigrants in Papua Province, especially Merauke Regency. Lowland rice production in 2021 will reach 199,214.00 tonnes, making it worthy of being called a rice barn in eastern Indonesia. The main contributors to this increase in production are transmigrant farmers from Java. Javanese farmers are known as farmers whose social exchange values are dominant in farming. But the reality is that in the transmigration area, paddy rice farming activities are full of high technology, and all farmers sell their produce in rice. The question arises, what drives farmers to make these decisions? Are these farmers rational? This research aims to know the farmer's decision to cultivate lowland rice. This research is qualitative with a case study technique in Kurik District, Merauke Regency. The analysis used is descriptive. The results of the research on farmers' decision to cultivate paddy according to their ancestral knowledge, government program to make the location for paddy fields, economic motivation and instrumental rationality.
