Abstract

Background: Patient Safety Incidents (PSI) in hospitals are adverse events that need to be reported for effective identification and risk management, aiming to prevent reoccurrence of incidents. However, not all incidents are documented, as evidenced by the discrepancy in the number of phlebitis reported by employees as well as Infection IPCLN at three hospitals. Aims: Provide recommendations to improve employee Personal Attitude towards reporting PSI at three hospitals owned by Company A. Methods: The method adopted was a cross-sectional research design; data were collected from three hospitals owned by company A and tested using multiple logistic regression statistics tests. Data on Phlebitis reported from January to July 2018 at three hospitals owned by Company A was used. Furthermore,135 respondents were taken from the service installations of the three hospitals. The Lameshow formula and proportional random sampling are applied to determine the sample. Results: The variables of error orientation (p = 0.001; β = 0.349), behavioral belief (p = 0.008; β = 0.234), and perceived behavioral control (p = 0.003; β = 0.222) had a positive and significant effect on the personal attitude of employees reporting PSI. Conclusion: Two approaches were recommended to improve the personal attitude of employees in reporting PSI. Keywords: Hospital, Patient safety incidents, Personal attitude, Underreporting

Abstract

Introduction: This study assesses hospital readiness in maternal referral hospitals six months after the onset of the pandemic, aiming to inform future public health emergency responses. Methods: A descriptive and exploratory mixed-methods design was employed. Surveys and focus group discussions were conducted with 127 hospitals in the COVID-19 maternal referral hospitals by the East Java Provincial Government using the modified WHO hospital readiness checklist for COVID-19 2020. Quantitative data were analyzed descriptively, and qualitative data from focus group discussions were thematically analyzed to get deeper insights into the challenges faced by hospitals. Results: A total of 105 hospitals (83%) responded to the survey. While PPE supplies were largely adequate, gaps in infrastructure, including negative-pressure rooms, isolation areas, and diagnostic capacity, persisted. Financial constraints, particularly delays in the National Health Insurance Scheme (BPJS Kesehatan) claims, further strained hospital operations. FGDs revealed that PCR delays, staffing shortages, and underdeveloped referral coordination systems hindered the delivery of maternal services. Conclusions: Strengthening maternal referral systems requires improving diagnostic capabilities, investing in essential infrastructure, and ensuring timely financial reimbursement. Collaborative efforts among the Ministry of Health, BPJS Kesehatan, and healthcare facilities are crucial to enhancing maternal healthcare resilience during future public health emergencies.

Abstract

Mental health problems in pregnant women are one of the health problems that have not been handled optimally in Banyuwangi Regency both during pregnancy and postpartum. Mental health screening of pregnant/postpartum women in antenatal care services is currently not running optimally because not all health workers have the ability to screen. Likewise, cadres as the spearheads in the community who assist pregnant/postpartum women in their area. Therefore, increasing literacy both knowledge and practice of mental health screening is needed. This capacity-building training activity aims to increase knowledge and skills in mental health screening using SRQ-20 to health workers and cadres. The 88 training participants consisted of 48 health workers and 40 cadres representing all sub-districts in Banyuwangi District. The results of this activity show that there are differences in knowledge and skills before and after with a value of p = 0.000 (health workers) and p = 0.000 (cadres). The average score before training also increased from 65.972 to 90.972 (health workers) and 41.833 to 71.667 (cadres) with a maximum score of 100. This activity is expected to improve antenatal care services and the participation of health workers and cadres in conducting mental health screening at puskesmas and their assisted areas.

Abstract

Patient safety is a top priority in healthcare services, including in the prevention of identification errors. Accurate patient identification is one of the Patient Safety Goals mandated by the Joint Commission International (JCI) 2024. The issue addressed in this study is the low compliance of nurses with patient identification procedures at Hospital X in Banyuwangi Regency. This study aims to analyze the relationship between nurses’ attitudes and tuning with compliance in implementing patient identification. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was used. Data on attitudes and tuning were collected through questionnaires, while compliance data were obtained from direct observations of 91 randomly selected nurses. The analysis showed a significant relationship between nurses’ attitudes and compliance with patient identification (p = 0.006), whereas tuning did not show a significant relationship (p = 1.00). Although most nurses had a positive attitude, inconsistencies were found between their attitudes and actions in the field. Therefore, it is recommended that practice-based training be provided, strict supervision by head nurses implemented, and patient identification technologies such as barcodes or Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) be utilized as innovations to improve compliance with procedures.

Abstract

Background: Infant mortality is one of the priority problems in the field of maternal and child health in Indonesia until now. All health issues in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's) are integrated into goal number 3. In the city of Surabaya, the total number of infant deaths has shown a decreased trend in the last 3 years, but in the number of infant deaths, including deaths within the neonatal period, the number continued to increase during 2018-2020. The target of neonatal visits in the working area of Puskesmas X Surabaya is one of the causes of the infant mortality rate during the neonatal period in the city of Surabaya having increased in 2018-2019, especially in the working area of Puskesmas X Surabaya which makes the Puskesmas rank second in the number of neonatal deaths in Surabaya in 2019. Objectives: To analyze factors related to the use of neonatal services in the working area of Puskesmas X Surabaya. Methods: This type of research was an analytical observational study with a quantitative approach. The design of this research used cross-sectional studies. The sampling technique used in this study was probability sampling. Results: From the research conducted, it was shown that there was no significant relationship between family resource and community resource with the use of neonatal services by  mothers of infants, judging from statistical tests using the Chi-square test, the p-value obtained was more than α=0,05. Conclusions: The enabling characteristics of the baby's mother, such as insurance ownership, family income, husband support, family support, health worker support, and accessibility, were not related to the use of neonatal services by the baby's mother in the work area of Puskesmas X Surabaya.

Abstract

In an effort to improve performance achievements, organizations need to analyze factors that influence performance so that they can determine effective strategies. One theory of performance factors that can be used is the ACHIEVE model, which stands for ability, clarity, help, incentive, evaluation, validity and environment. This study aimed to analyze the ACHIEVE factor on the performance of Bojonegoro Community Health Center employees. This research design was cross-sectional, involving 27 employees selected using total sampling technique. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire in the form of a Google form. Descriptive data analysis was carried out to get an overview of each variable and multiple linear regression tests to test the significance of the influence of each factor. The results of the analysis showed that ability, clarity, help and validity have a p value <0.05; while incentive, evaluation and environment have a p value >0.05. It was concluded that employee performance at the Bojonegoro Community Health Center was influenced by the factors of ability, clarity, help and validity. Keywords: health center; employee; performance; abilities; clarity; help; incentives, evaluation; validity; environment ABSTRAK Dalam upaya meningkatkan capaian kinerja, organisasi perlu melakukan analisis faktor yang berpengaruh terhadap kinerja sehingga dapat menentukan strategi yang efektif.
