Abstract

This study aims to improve the learning motivation of fifth grade students of SDN 1 Sukamanah in learning mathematics on the material of flat shapes (squares, rectangles, and triangles) by applying the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model. This study is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of this study were 23 fifth grade students of SDN 1 Sukamanah consisting of 12 female students and 11 male students. Data collection methods through observation, questionnaires, and documentation. Based on the results of data analysis in cycle I, the average student learning motivation was 64.5%, including the moderate category, and in cycle II the average student learning motivation was 87.4%, including the very high category. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model can improve student learning motivation on the material of flat shapes (squares, rectangles, and triangles).

Abstract

Mathematics learning still faces various challenges to this day, one of which is the difficulty students encounter in solving fraction problems, particularly when these problems are presented in the form of word problems. This study aims to describe students' learning difficulties in solving mathematical word problems on the topic of fraction addition in Grade V at SDN 3 Sukasari. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including tests, observations, interviews, and documentation. The subjects consist of six students selected based on high, medium, and low achievement levels. The results indicate that students face various difficulties in solving word problems, which are categorized according to Newman’s theory into five types of errors: reading errors, comprehension errors, transformation errors, process skills errors, and encoding errors. These findings highlight the critical role of teachers in identifying students’ learning obstacles to develop more effective and responsive instructional strategies.

Abstract

This research is motivated by students' limited understanding of the mathematical concept of whole number division. This is caused by the lack of variety in the learning approach and students' difficulties in applying concepts to solve mathematical problems. This research aims to improve the mathematical concept understanding ability of grade III students of SD Negeri 2 Setiamulya in the material of whole number division through the application of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach. This study was a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles, with research subjects comprising 22 students from grade III of SD Negeri 2 Setiamulya. Each cycle follows the stages of the CAR model of Kemmis and McTaggart, which consists of four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The data collection techniques employed included tests, observation, and documentation. The research instruments consist of observation sheets of teacher and student activities, as well as a conceptual understanding test instrument. The study's results show an increase in students' comprehension of mathematical concepts in each cycle. In the pre-action phase, the average student score was 55.22, with a learning completion percentage of 40.9%, which fell into the “Poor” category. After the implementation of the RME approach, the average score in cycle I increased to 78.18 with a completion percentage of 72.7% included in the “Good” category, and cycle II, the average score increased again to 85 with a completion percentage of 86.4% included in the “Very Good” category. Thus, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach is effective in improving students' comprehension of mathematical concepts in the division of whole numbers material.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemandirian belajar peserta didik pada materi perkalian dua angka dengan menerapkan metode GASING. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Penelitian Tindakan kelas (PTK). Subjek penelitian yakni peserta didik kelas V SDN Kondangwangi Cilampunghilir, Kec. Padakembang, Kab. Tasikmalaya Jawa Barat 46466. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah: 1) Observasi, 2) Angket, 3) Dokumentasi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan metode GASING dapat meningkatkan kemandirian belajar peserta didik pada materi perkalian dua angka. Peningkatan kemandirian belajar peserta didik dapat dilihat dari hasil analisis kemandirian belajar peserta didik pada pra-siklus dengan jumlah 20 peserta didik yang dimana 2 peserta didik berkategori sedang, 18 peserta didik berkatogori rendah dengan nilai akhir hasil analisis kemandirian belajar peseta didik 57 dalam kategori “Rendah”. Pada siklus I yang dimana 1 peserta didik berkategori tinggi, 13 peserta didik berkategori sedang dan 6 peserta didik berkategori rendah dengan nilai akhir hasil kemandirian belajar peserta didik yaitu 71 dalam kategori “Sedang”. Pada siklus II yang dimana 13 peserta didik berkategori tinggi, 7 peserta didik berkategori sedang dan tidak ada peserta didik yang berkategori rendah dengan nilai akhir hasil kemandirian belajar peserta didik yaitu 88 dalam kategori “Tinggi”, Hal ini membuktikan terjadi peningkatan kemandirian belajar dari pra-siklus, siklus I dan siklus II.
