Abstract

ABSTRACTIntroduction: Dentists play a significant role in preventing the transmission of 2019-nCoV. Recommended infection control measures during dental practice can block the route of person-to-person transmission. Dentists and their personnel are used to assess the risk of cross-infection. This study aimed to obtain dentists' knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on a sample of licensed dentists using the convenience sampling technique. The minimum sample size was counted using the formula for a descriptive analysis of one group with the expected proportion of 50% and the confidence level of 95%, and obtained 407 respondents from 31 provinces. Data was collected using a questionnaire distributed via a shortened link. 99.75% of respondents knew personal protective equipment, but only 84.28% knew the proper removal procedure. 99.75% of respondents knew about dental devices that cause aerosols, and all respondents knew about social and physical distancing. Result: Dentists’ attitudes regarding personal protective equipment were that they needed and maintained it during the pandemic. All respondents stated that social and physical distancing was critical and must be maintained while providing health services. Regarding their practices, all respondents did social and physical distancing in their daily lives and during dental procedures. Conclusion: Dentists' knowledge is already good in several ways, but with several matters that still need to be improved, their attitudes and practices are good criteria. Keywords: smart Odontogram; medical record; application; usability testing; user’s experience

Abstract

Caries Risk Assessment (CRA) focuses on caries prevention than restorative approaches. CariesManagement by Risk Assessment (CAMBRA) and Caries Risk Assessment Tool (CAT) are examples of manualcharting CRA methods that were made to make it easier for clinicians and non-clinicians. This study aims tocompare the validity of CAMBRA and CAT as CRA for children. This study is a rapid review and uses articles asresearch samples. Systematic searching was carried out using the PRISMA diagram. This study uses PubMed andScience Direct databases. This study includes randomized controlled, cohort, and methodological studies reportingthe validity of CAT and CAMBRA methods on children published from 2011-2021. Searching strategy for this studyis (children) AND (dental caries) AND (risk assessment) AND ((CAT) OR (CAMBRA) OR (AAPD)) AND (validity).Articles that meet the inclusion criteria will be extracted and discussed. One hundred three articles were identified, and only five articles met the inclusion criteria. Modified CAT by adding the patient's Streptococcus mutansexamination without asking the patient's social-economic status has the highest validity value. The method with thelowest validity value in this study is the unmodified CAT method. Both CAMBRA and CAT validity are stilllimited. The evidence is still low. CAT has high sensitivity score but a low specificity value, while the CAMBRAmethod has a different validity value for each reported article.KEYWORDS: Caries risk assessment, children, Caries Management by Risk Assessment (CAMBRA), Caries RiskAssessment Tool (CAT), validity

Abstract

Introduction: Dental caries is among the most prevalent chronic diseases affecting children globally. It results from the demineralization of tooth structures due to the complex interaction of various factors, including diet, oral hygiene, and bacterial activity. Socioeconomic status (SES) is a well-established determinant of health that influences access to healthcare services, education, and health-related behaviors. Children from lower socioeconomic backgrounds are generally at greater risk of developing dental caries due to limited access to preventive care and reduced awareness of oral hygiene practices. This study examines the association between parental socioeconomic status—encompassing education, occupation, and income—and the prevalence of dental caries among 12-year-old children in Pangkalan Jati, Depok City, Indonesia. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted involving 111 twelve-year-old children, selected through total sampling. Dental caries status was evaluated using the DMF-T index (Decayed, Missing, Filled Teeth). Data on parental education, occupation, and household income were collected and analyzed for correlation with children’s DMF-T scores. Results: The mean DMF-T score among participants was 2.8, indicating a moderate caries severity according to WHO criteria. Significant inverse correlations were found between DMF-T scores and paternal education (rₛ = -0.383, p < 0.001), maternal education (rₛ = -0.278, p = 0.003), paternal occupation (rₛ = -0.377, p < 0.001), and household income (rₛ = -0.335, p < 0.001). No significant correlation was observed with maternal occupation (rₛ = -0.138, p = 0.150). Conclusion: Parental socioeconomic status—particularly education, occupation, and income—significantly influences the prevalence of dental caries among children. These findings underscore the importance of implementing targeted oral health education and intervention programs for socioeconomically disadvantaged families.
