Abstract

Fishers, including trammel net fishers, have different respond due to seasonal changes. The research aims to calculate shrimp season index, to identify the impact of seasonal changes related to income of trammel net fishers, and to identify the adaptation pattern of trammel net fishers related to shrimp season changes. The data collected were trammel net fishing unit performance, trammel net fisherman adaptation methods, investment data, income, and fishermen's capital as well as trip data and trammel net shrimp production data for five years (2012-2016). Data analysis used fishing season index, fishing season impact related to income of fishers, and fishers adaptation to seasonal changes. The results showed that there are five months were identified as peak season of shrimp i.e. June, September, October, November, and December. Other results showed that seasonal changes have impacted to trammel net fishers income amounted Rp 6.185.800/vessel/trip. At the peak season fishing, fisher income were Rp 6.591.495/vssel/trip, however at the low season fishers income were Rp 405.695/vessel/trip. In addition there were five adaptation pattern related to seasonal changes of trammel net fishers which were 37% lending money and selling stuffs, 33% repairing fishing gear, 13% fishing gear diversification, 10% changing the fishing ground, and 7% income diversification. In conclution that fishers who choose adaptation pattern of fishing gear diversification have the highest income compared to fishers who choose other types of adaptation.

Abstract

Handlines are a fishing gear that is commonly used by fishermen in Banten Bay. However, the catches obtained by fishermen are few. This is because of the lack of information about the potential fishing ground that fishermen have. One of the methods to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of fishing operation is the information about the availability of fishing ground. The used of portable FADs (Fish Aggregating Devices) technology is expected to create a fishing ground so that fishing operation become more effective and efficient. The research purpose is to compare the productivity and composition of handline catching by using and without portable FAD and to determine the effectiveness of portable FAD. The method used was an experimental fishing method with 20 trips. Research showed that the dominant catches of handline fishing with portable FADs were goatfish, bream, black grouper, mackerel. Goatfish, bream, and black grouper were dominated by large sizes. The total catch of handline was 931 fish. The composition of the catch with the portable FAD was 504 of fish, while without the portable FAD was 427 of fish. The productivity of handline with portable FAD was 1.29 kg/trip, while the productivity of handline without FAD was 0.99 kg/trip. Portable FAD use during fishing operations was more effective compare to fishing operations without portable FADs.

Abstract

One of ways to increase the fishing operation effectiveness is done by using fish aggregating device (FAD) called rumpon. The types of FAD used in Kei Kecil waters made from bamboos or plastic drum material. This research objectives are (1) determining catch composition around FAD, (2) comparing the effectiveness of two types of FAD on fishing operation, and (3) comparing the effectiveness of fishing gears, operated around the FAD. The method that used in this research was doing survey through observing fishing activities around the FAD. Fishing gear and FAD samples were determined through purposive sampling method. These data were collected from August to October 2007 in Kei Kecil Waters of South East Maluku. The kind of fish catch around FAD were scad mackerel, frigate mackerel, and barred spanish mackerel. The most dominant of catch was scad mackerel (80%), whereas percentage e of frigate mackerel and barred spanish mackerel were 19% and 1%. The composition of the length size of scad mackerel, frigate mackerel, and barred spanish mackerel were dominated by the large size. Type of bamboo FAD was more efective compared with the plastic drum FAD type. Purse seine fishing was more efective compared with gillnet and troll line fishing that operated around rumpon.

Abstract

AbstractSegara Anakan, Cilacap Regency is an important marine fisheries producer in Central Java Province, especially for shrimps. The objective of this study were to analyze the production and fishing ground of shrimps, to analyze dynamic patterns of shrimps cat ch affected by sedimentation and  industrial waste in Segara  Anakan, and to develop intervention option to the degradation  of shrimp  catch  as  well.   Some  methods  were  used  in  this  study  such  as  descriptive  method, geographic information system, and dynamic model approach included the test of model structural stability and performance. In  2002–2013, the highest production of shrimps in the Segara Anakan was in 2006 (2263.0 ton) and the lowest was in 2010 (884.7 ton). Fishing ground of shrimp in the Segara  Anakan  already  had high total suspended solid, and also  low contaminated oil and  lead (Pb). Results of dynamic model analysis showed that shrimp catch degraded exponentially along with the increasing of sediment accumulation and industrial waste. Shrimps production in 2013 was 1147.8  tons,  and  might  decrease   43.04  %  to  be  653.8  tons  over  75  years  later  without intervention. If the model was intervenced by fishing open -close system and limited acces fishing ground,  hence  shrimps  catch  showing  stable  around  902.2–929.1  ton  every  year.  While  if  the intervention was conducted by the stopping of industrial waste to Segara Anakan, hence shrimps catch only decrease 13.00 % to be 998.6 tons over 75 years later. Keywords: dynamic model, fishing ground, industrial waste, shrimp catchAbstrakABSTRAKSegara Anakan, Kabupaten Cilacap merupakan basis produksi perikanan laut yang penting di  Provinsi  Jawa  Tengah  terutama  jenis  udang. Abstract

ABSTRACTRumpon or Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) had been used by purse seine and handline fishermen in Pacitan Regency since 2005. The use of rumpon has been associated with the catching of immature fishes in large number that would disrupt the sustainability of fish resources.  The aims of this study were to measure fishing productivity of purse seine and handline fleets operated around FADs deployed in eastern Indian Ocean waters and analyze the size distribution and gonad maturity index of the catch. This study was conducted at Tamperan Fishing Port of the Pacitan Regency, East Java Province. Daily fish landing data from both fishing fleets were collected from the Tamperan auction hall from January to December 2014 for productivity calculation. About 289 fish samples from 6 dominant species was taken randomly on-board of 3 purse seine and 2 handlines vessels from 8 different FADs for size distribution and gonad analysis. The average productivity of purse seine fleets in 2014were 6,7 tonnes/trip (s = 5 tonnes/trip) while handling fleets average productivity were 0,9 tons/trip (s = 0,6 tons/trip. Purse seine catch were dominated by immature and juvenile fish while handlines catch were larger and already mature fishes.
