Abstract

This study aims to analyze the causal relationship between the implementation of Sharia good Corporate Governance and the long-term operational resilience of Sharia commercial banks, as well as integrating Islamic ethical concepts such as Ihsan and Maqashid Sharia into GCG performance measurement models. This study uses a normative-juridical-qualitative approach that is reinforced by quantitative-descriptive content analysis. The normative approach focused on the evaluation of the regulatory framework and the theological foundation, while the empirical analysis referred to the data of Sharia commercial banks operating in Indonesia for the period 2014-2023. Research shows that effective implementation of Sharia GCG contributes significantly to profitability (ROA) and operational resilience. The Sharia Supervisory Board (DPS) serves as a pillar of integrity with strict legal accountability. Banks that apply the Ihsan principle perform voluntary disclosure, which creates superior Trust Capital. However, the main challenge lies in the substantive implementation due to personal involvement and cultural challenges such as mental corruption. Good Sharia Corporate Governance is a non-negotiable prerequisite for the sustainability of Sharia commercial banks in the financial, ethical, and social dimensions. The effectiveness of Sharia Good Corporate Governance positions the bank to meet the dual objectives of mundane and ukhrawi accountability, with ethical transparency and Islamic Social Reporting (ISR) reporting as an important instrument in maintaining stakeholder trust.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to examine, from an Islamic economics perspective, the effects of population growth and Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) on the Human Development Index (HDI) across Sumatra Island during the 2015–2024 period. Using a quantitative approach, this research employs panel data obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and analyzes the data through panel regression with the Fixed Effect Model (FEM). The results reveal that population growth has a positive and significant effect on HDI, while GRDP exerts a negative and significant effect; furthermore, both variables simultaneously influence HDI significantly. The coefficient of determination (R²) indicates that the independent variables explain a substantial proportion of the variation in HDI across the observed provinces. From the perspective of Islamic economics, these findings suggest that human development is determined not only by economic growth but also by the quality of human resources and equitable distribution, emphasizing that the achievement of comprehensive welfare (falah) requires a balance between economic expansion and social justice.

Abstract

Islamic banks in ASEAN have a strategic role in supporting regional economic stability, but they also face various challenges in managing risks that can affect their financial performance. This study aims to analyze the determinants of the financial performance of Islamic banks in ASEAN, especially the influence of financing risk, liquidity risk, and capital adequacy on Return on Assets (ROA) as an indicator of financial performance. This study uses a purposive sampling method with a sample of five Islamic banks in ASEAN, namely Bank Muamalat Indonesia, Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam, Amanah Islamic Bank Philippines, Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad, and Bank Islamic Thailand, using annual data for the 2019-2023 period. The analysis was carried out with a panel data regression model using the EViews 10 program. The independent variables in this study include financing risk (NPF), liquidity risk (FDR), and capital adequacy (CAR). The results showed that partially, FDR had a significant negative influence on ROA with a value of Sig. 0.04 < 0.05, while NPF showed a positive significant influence with a value of Sig. 0.00 < 0.05. In contrast, CAR had no significant effect on ROA with a value of Sig. 0.5651 > 0.05. Simultaneously, FDR, NPF and CAR have a significant effect on the ROA of Islamic Banks in ASEAN for the 2019-2023 period. Keywords: Liquidity Risk (FDR), Financing Risk (NPF), Capital Adequacy (CAR), Financial Performance, Islamic Banks, ASEAN.
