Abstract

Soybean is an important source of cheap protein. However, an adequate supply of soybeans is still challenging in Indonesia. This research aimed to evaluate the morphological, physiological, and yield responses of soybeans from the application of calcium carbonate (CaCO3), humic acid, and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF). The research was conducted from December 2022 to April 2023 at the ultisol soil of Sijunjung Regency, West Sumatra. The experiment used a split-split-plot design with three replications. The first factor was AMF and without AMF application. The second factor was humic acid and without humic acid. The third factor was doses of CaCO3 application: 0, ¼, ½, ¾, and 1 time of exchangeable Al. The results showed that CaCO3 application significantly affected root length, shoot dry weight, N-tissue content, soil pH, and exchangeable Al. The application of AMF affected the percentage of AMF colonization. The yield components did not show any significant differences among treatments. However, the yield was 24.85% higher than that written in the official description. Therefore, the application of CaCO3 or humic acid or AMF could be a potential solution to increase soybean yields in ultisol. Abstract

Kacang Tunggak (Vigna unguiculata L. Walp) merupakan tanaman Leguminosae yang bijinya dapat menjadi subsitusi bahan baku kedelai. Daunnya juga dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai sayuran. Penelitian ini bertujuan mempelajari pengaruh waktu pemetikan daun dan pemupukan NPK terhadap produksi biji kacang tunggak. Percobaan ini dilaksanakan di Kebun Percobaan Cikabayan IPB pada bulan Februari hingga Juni 2019 menggunakan kacang tunggak bertipe merambat. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Kelompok Lengkap Teracak (RKLT) dengan petak terpisah. Petak utama pada percobaan adalah faktor pemupukan NPK dengan dosis 100 kg ha-1 diaplikasikan pada awal tanam, 50 kg ha- 1 diaplikasikan pada awal tanam dan 50 kg ha-1 pada tanaman umur 4 MST, serta perlakuan tanpa pemupukan. Anak petak pada percobaan adalah waktu pemetikan daun dengan perlakuan pemetikan daun pada umur 5 MST, dua kali pemetikan daun pada umur 5 dan 7 MST, tiga kali pemetikan daun pada umur 5, 7, dan 9 MST, serta tanpa perlakuan pemetikan daun. Data dianalisis menggunakan Uji F dan diuji lanjut menggunakan Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) pada taraf nyata α=5%. Pemupukan NPK 50-50 kg ha-1 menghasilkan hasil polong kering tertinggi sebesar 36.72 g per tanaman. Faktor waktu pemetikan daun tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap semua peubah, kecuali pada jumlah tandan bunga tanaman umur 7 MST. Terdapat interaksi antara perlakuan pemupukan NPK dan waktu pemetikan daun terhadap total bobot polong kering dan indeks panen tanaman. Pemetikan daun dua kali pada 5 dan 7 MST dapat dilakukan tanpa mengurangi hasil polong dengan syarat adanya pemupukan NPK 50 kg ha-1 pada awal tanam dan NPK 50 kg ha-1 pada 4 MST dengan hasil sebesar 41.92 g bobot polong kering per tanaman. Abstract

The supply chain of the palm oil agro-industry is quite complicated and lengthy and involves many actors. This causes supply chain performance to be less than optimal. In addition, it also raises doubts applying the principle of sustainability in its business activities. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the performance of the supply chain of the palm oil agro-industry to know the actual conditions at the moment and to identify existing problems and opportunities for improvement. Thus, the right strategy can be formulated to increase the sustainability and responsiveness of the palm oil agro-industry. This study aims to identify the condition of the palm oil agro-industry supply chain mechanism and analyze the performance of the palm oil agro-industry supply chain so that improvement strategies can be formulated. Analysis of the supply chain performance of the palm oil agro-industry was determined using the Supply Chain Operation Reference (SCOR) method by weighting the results of the Analytical Hierarchy Process questionnaire (AHP) to obtain the supply chain. The results showed that the supply chain structure of the palm oil agro-industry consisted of farmers, transportation, palm oil mills, private partners, distributors, and consumers. Analysis of the performance of supply chain actors in the palm oil agro-industry is primarily in the medium and above average categories. Improving supply chain performance needs to be emphasized at each stage of the planning process with reliability performance attributes and performance indicators in the form of accuracy in predicting the number of requests. Alternative strategies that are prioritized to improve supply chain performance are increasing the competence of human resources and supply chain partnerships.

Abstract

Jack bean or koro pedang is a potential source as a soybean substitute for food and feed. In production, the plant is also useful in crop rotation and intercropping to support sustainable agriculture systems. However, jack bean production in Indonesia is still challenging. One of the obstacles in the production is the flowers and pods dropping, which reduces yield markedly. This study aimed to evaluate the source and timing of additional potassium fertilizer on the generative phase and yield of jack bean. The experimental design used a randomized complete block design with two factors, i.e., the source of potassium fertilizer as the first factor consisting of five levels: no fertilizer application, base fertilizer, base fertilizer + goat manure, base fertilizer + rice husk ash, and base fertilizer + KCl. The second factor was fertilization time, i.e., at 46 and 121 days after planting. The treatment of the potassium fertilizer source and fertilization timing affected several generative characters, but did not have much effect on productivity. Future studies should identify other potassium fertilizer sources to find the optimal dose to support plants in the generative phase. Abstract

Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L. Walp), known as tolo beans in Indonesia, is a nutrient-dense legume consumed as young pods, dry seeds, or livestock feed. Despite its nutritional value and agronomic potential, cowpea productivity in Indonesia remains low. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of poultry manure and NPK fertilizers on flowering, pod formation, and seed filling of cowpea. The experiment was conducted from July to October 2024 at the Sawah Baru Experimental Field, IPB, using a randomized complete block design. Treatments included poultry manure at 0, 10, 20, and 30 tons ha-1 and NPK (16-16-16) at 0, 100, 200, and 300 kg ha-1. Results showed that poultry manure at 10-30 tons ha-1 and NPK above 100 kg ha-1 significantly increased the productive nodes at the ninth week after planting. Both fertilizers enhanced plant growth and yield. The highest average seed yield was obtained at 30 tons ha-1 poultry manure (3.64 tons grain ha-1) and 300 kg ha-1 NPK (3.38 tons  grain ha-1), highlighting the benefit of integrating organic and inorganic fertilization to boost cowpea productivity. Abstract

Intercropping between sweet corn (Zea mays L. var. saccharata Sturt) and cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L. Walp) can improve land productivity, but requires optimization of row orientation and cowpea row number. This study evaluated the effects of row orientation and cowpea row number on the growth, yield, and economic performance of sweet corn–cowpea intercropping. The experiment was conducted from June to September 2024 at the IPB experimental field in Sawah Baru, Bogor, Indonesia. A split-plot design with four replications was employed. The main plots consisted of two row orientations (North–South and East–West), while the sub-plots included maize monoculture, intercropping with one row, and two rows of cowpea. A significant interaction between row orientation and cowpea row number was observed on maize height, leaf number, and stem diameter at two weeks after planting. Although row orientation did not significantly affect maize and cowpea performance, the East–West orientation increased cowpea yield by 14.6% and reduced maize yield by 5.3% compared to the North–South orientation. The East–West orientation combined with one cowpea row produced the highest land equivalent ratio (LER = 1.93) and benefit–cost ratio (R/C = 1.45). The research objective was to study the dry matter distribution pattern of several peanut cultivars. Twenty cultivars were planted at two different locations, Cikarawang and Sawah Baru Experimental Field but at the same elevation (250 m above sea level). The cultivars were scored according to morphological and physiological characters, total N and total non-structural carbohydrates (TNC), yield and yield components. There were no statistically differences in pod yield, seed yield and harvest index between the cultivars, but there were differences in dry matter distribution between cultivars. TNC content in stem correlated positively with pod fi lling. Carbohydrates for pod fi lling presumed were derived from dry matter accumulation in early pod fi lling stage. It was concluded that the ideal growing type of peanut are early accumulated dry matter but almost no increase of dry matter accumulation in upper part of plant during seed development.
