Abstract

Seledri atau Apium graveolens sudah sangat dikenal pemanfaatannya oleh masyarakat luas. Daun tanaman tersebut dikonsumsi sebagai lalapan dan penghias hidangan. Bijinya juga dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan penyedap. Selain itu, ekstrak minyak seledri juga dapat digunakan sebagai obat.Penanaman seledri di areal lahan terbuka mengalami beberapa kendala diantaranya seledri merupakan varietas tanaman semusim yang sensitif terhadap kebutuhan air yang memiliki kondisi jenuh air dan kurang air. Pemberian air yang berlebihan atau kekurangan dapat membuat pertumbuhan tanaman seledri tidak optimal. Penerapan mikrokontroler pada sistem irigasi dapat memungkinkan dalam mengontrol pemberian air secara otomatis berdasarkan perintah yang diberikan. Selain masalah pemberian air, Perubahan iklim, suhu ekstrem, atau cuaca tidak stabil juga menjadi kendala tanaman seledri di lahan. Seledri lebih baik tumbuh pada suhu yang lebih sejuk, dan suhu ekstrem dapat mempengaruhi produksi tanaman. Pada lahan terbuka modifikasi iklim mikro dilakukan dengan memberikan mulsa sebagai penutup permukaan lahan sehingga mampu memberikan karakteristik yang berbeda terhadap unsur-unsur iklim mikro, yang meliputi, kelengasan tanah, suhu tanah, serta suhu dan kelembapan udara. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa otomatisasi irigasi tetes dapat berfungsi dengan baik. Alat ini mampu membaca suhu udara (°C), kelembapan udara (%), dan suhu tanah (°C) menggunakan sensor SHT10 dan DS18b20. Data hasil pembacaan sensor dan kondisi servo berhasil disimpan secara real time oleh data logger RTC DS3231 dalam format file .csv. Semua data dan aktivitas alat dapat dimonitor melalui MQTT Dashboard. Kelengasan tanah tertinggi terdapat pada tanah dengan menggunakan mulsa jerami yaitu sebesar 32% pada pukul 18:4:9 sore hari, Suhu tanah tertinggi terjadi pada perlakuan tanpa mulsa pada pukul 12:00 di siang hari sebesar 33.5 oC, diikuti suhu tanah pada perlakuan mulsa plastik sebesar 32 oC dan suhu tanah pada perlakuan dengan mulsa jerami sebesar 29,6 oC. Suhu udara yang diperoleh pada penelitian adalah  25,93 ˚C dengan kelembapan 79,72 %. Dari hasil yang diperoleh di lapangan, seledri bisa tumbuh dengan optimal pada rentang suhu dan kelembapan tersebut.

Abstract

This activity aims to improve the quality of cocoa beans and promote sustainable local chocolate production through the application of optimized roasting techniques tailored to the characteristics of locally grown tropical cocoa beans. The program was led by Prof. Wan Rosli Bin Wan Ishak from USM, accompanied by Prof. Haslina Ahmad, along with collaborators from the field of Bioactive Materials and Synthesis at UPM. The activities included the delivery of training modules entitled Enhancing Cocoa Bean Quality through Optimized Roasting Techniques for Sustainable Local Chocolate Production, demonstrations of roasting processes involving parameters such as temperature, roasting time, humidity, and variations in roasting schemes, as well as a field visit to the chocolate production house at Kampung Coklat Senare. This visit aimed to provide a deeper understanding of the production workflow, the diversity of local cocoa beans, and opportunities to strengthen supply chains based on locally sourced raw materials. The primary focus of the program was the design of energy-efficient roasting strategies with minimal environmental impact, while preserving bioactive compounds and characteristic cocoa aromas through controlled Maillard reaction pathways. The initiative emphasized technology transfer, community capacity building, and the adoption of sustainable production practices among cocoa-based micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in North Lombok. The long-term impact is expected to be reflected in improved processing efficiency, greater utilization of local resources, and more stable income opportunities for cocoa farmers and local MSME actors. The activity was conducted at Kampung Coklat Senare, Genggelang Village, North Lombok, on 21 January 2026, highlighting the importance of international–local partnerships within the context of community engagement in tropical regions.

Abstract

The growth of lettuce (Lactuca sativa) in controlled environments such as Plant Factories is highly influenced by lighting, particularly under red-blue (RB) LED treatment. Accurate growth prediction models are essential for optimizing yield. This study compared four models linear, polynomial, logistic, and Gompertz to determine the best predictor of leaf area expansion. Leaf area measurements over 30 days were analyzed using Easy Leaf Area software. Results showed that the Gompertz model consistently outperformed others with the lowest Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) of 14.55% (slow), 39.51% (medium), and 29.13% (high), and the highest R² values of 0.99 across all growth categories. In contrast, linear and polynomial models exhibited extremely high MAPE values, exceeding 300% in most cases. The study concludes that the Gompertz model is the most accurate and biologically realistic for modeling lettuce growth in Plant Factory systems, offering robust predictive capability for sustainable precision agriculture.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kualitas biji kopi dan nilai jual kopi di Desa Selelos, Lombok Utara, melalui penerapan teknologi tepat guna. Fokus utama dari program ini adalah penerapan alat pengering yang efisien dan alat pengolahan kopi untuk meningkatkan kualitas biji kopi serta efisiensi proses pengolahan. Selain itu, pengembangan sistem informasi berbasis pemetaan wilayah wisata, hasil bumi, dan kelompok tani bertujuan untuk memperbaiki strategi pemasaran dan memperluas akses pasar bagi produk kopi. Program ini dimulai dengan analisis situasi, dilanjutkan dengan sosialisasi, pelatihan, penerapan teknologi, pendampingan, dan diakhiri dengan evaluasi. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan dalam kualitas biji kopi dan efisiensi proses pengolahan, yang berimbas pada peningkatan nilai jual produk kopi. Sistem informasi yang diterapkan mempermudah pemetaan wilayah perkebunan serta manajemen pemasaran, memberikan dampak positif terhadap pemasaran produk kopi. Program ini juga berhasil meningkatkan kesejahteraan petani kopi dengan meningkatkan pendapatan mereka, serta memperkuat kapasitas kelompok tani dalam mengelola hasil bumi secara lebih efektif dan berkelanjutan. Secara keseluruhan, kegiatan ini memberikan kontribusi positif terhadap perekonomian desa dan memperkuat daya saing produk kopi di pasar yang lebih luas.

Abstract

Pengadangan Village is one of the major banana-producing centers in East Lombok Regency, with a thriving banana processing industry led by the Bale Sentosa Banana Sales SME. This production activity generates organic waste in the form of banana peels and product byproducts that have not yet been fully utilized. This community service initiative aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of SME practitioners in managing banana peel waste into liquid organic fertilizer (POC) through the use of a simple composting device. The activity was carried out through the stages of preliminary survey, outreach, training, evaluation, and mentoring involving 20 members of the Bale Sentosa SME. Evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test methods to measure participants’ increased understanding. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants’ understanding from an average of 52% before training to 88% after training. A total of 15 kg of banana peel waste was successfully processed using a simple composter, yielding approximately 8 liters of liquid organic fertilizer during the fermentation process. Participants were also able to operate the composters independently and understood how to utilize banana peel waste as a valuable product. The application of this appropriate technology contributes to reducing organic waste and has the potential to provide economic added value for MSMEs. This activity supports the implementation of circular economy principles and sustainable waste management among Banana Sale MSMEs in Pengadangan Village.

Abstract

The increasing challenges faced by cocoa farmers in Kampung Cokelat Senare, particularly the decline in cocoa yields since 2020, have necessitated innovative interventions. This community service initiative focuses on improving cocoa processing techniques through food technology to enhance the quality and safety of locally produced chocolate. Expert involvement facilitates effective knowledge exchange essential for revitalizing the local cocoa industry. The primary objective of this initiative is to educate farmers on modern cocoa processing methods and food safety protocols to improve chocolate quality and promote sustainable production. The methodology includes structured workshops led by experts, including Prof. Wan Rosli Bin Wan Ishak, emphasizing optimized cocoa roasting techniques and hygienic processing practices. These activities are complemented by practical demonstrations and field visits to local cocoa processing facilities, enabling direct application of newly acquired knowledge. The initiative produced several notable outcomes. Farmers demonstrated improved understanding of cocoa roasting parameters, resulting in enhanced chocolate flavor profiles. In addition, improved safety measures during processing contributed to reduced aflatoxin contamination, addressing critical food safety concerns. The interactive workshop format increased participant engagement and encouraged adoption of modern techniques. Survey results indicated a positive change in farmers’ attitudes toward innovation and a commitment to applying these methods. Overall, this initiative has positioned the community toward more sustainable cocoa production, with expected improvements in product quality and economic resilience. The program highlights the importance of education, collaboration, and technology transfer in strengthening local cocoa-based industries.

Abstract

This community service initiative focused on the sustainable management and valorization of Kappaphycus alvarezii waste in Ekas Buana Village, specifically within the Merah Putih Fishing Camp engaging local fishermen from Paser Puteh, under the leadership of Mr. M. Toni. This initiative, coordinated by Fatepa and led by Dr. Reza Kusuma Nurrohman, was conducted on January 22, 2026, and featured contributions from notable experts including Prof. Wan Rosli Bin Wan Ishak from Universiti Sains Malaysia and Assoc. Prof. ChM. Dr. Haslina Ahmad from Universiti Putra Malaysia. The discussions included the potential of K. alvarezii as a sustainable source of bioactive compounds for functional food innovation, emphasizing riboflavin extracts and their health benefits. This initiative aimed at uplifting local fishing communities by demonstrating the economic viability of seaweed waste and its integration into sustainable agricultural practices. The findings align with cooperative strategies fostering dual benefits: environmental sustainability through waste valorization and economic advancement through the creation of high-value products.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kualitas dan diversifikasi produk UKM Maju Bersama di Desa Kekait melalui penerapan teknologi pengering silinder. Fokus kegiatan adalah optimalisasi proses pengeringan gula semut dan coconut chips untuk menghasilkan produk berkualitas tinggi yang memenuhi standar SNI. Metode yang digunakan meliputi sosialisasi dan koordinasi, pengujian alat pengering silinder, penyuluhan Cara Pengolahan Pangan yang Baik (CPPB), serta pelatihan penggunaan alat pengering. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa alat pengering silinder mampu menurunkan kadar air gula semut dan coconut chips secara signifikan dalam waktu yang lebih singkat dibanding metode tradisional. Selain itu, kegiatan ini meningkatkan kapasitas produksi, pendapatan UKM, serta keterampilan mitra dalam menggunakan teknologi tepat guna. Tantangan dalam penerapan teknologi ini mencakup biaya investasi awal dan kebutuhan pelatihan intensif.
