Abstract

Reading a book is like letting the world in. Good reading comprehension can help students, in particular, expand their thinking and creativity, which will improve their learning outcomes. Preliminary research indicates that the majority of class VIII D students at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Denpasar for the 2022–2023 academic year struggle with reading comprehension. It was challenging for them to comprehend word meanings, identify phrase meanings, recognize specific information, and so on. Therefore, the purpose of the study was to determine whether the Numbered Heads Together method can enhance the reading comprehension of class VIII students at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Denpasar. The researcher carried out classroom action research to meet these objectives. To gather the necessary data, research tools in the form of exams and questionnaires were made available. The data were then examined by comparing the pre-test and post-test findings, which revealed a considerable improvement in the respondents' average score from the pre-test to the post-test. According to the data, the participants' average pre-test score was 50.83, their post-test I score was 66, and their post-test II score was 74.83. As additional evidence, a survey was administered at the conclusion of the previous cycle, and the findings revealed that the Numbered Heads Together technique had been successfully applied. Based on the study's findings, it can be said that using the Numbered Heads Together method will help class VIII students at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Denpasar read more fluently throughout the 2022–2023 academic year.

Abstract

The study aims to find out whether or not Think Pair Share can improve the writing skills of 10th graders of SMA Negeri 1 Manggis in school year 2022/2023. The subject of this study were the tenth grade students of the SMA Negeri 1 Manggis. Class X H students chose the subject, which consists of 31 students. The research used the classroom action research type. The research was carried out by Think Pair Share with image and divided into several cycles, each consisting of two cycles. In this study, two kinds of data were obtained from the result of the pre-test, the post-test and the questionnaire. The mean score result showed an improvement over the pre-test from 48.77 to 70.09 in post-test I and 83.09 in post-test II. The investigators administered the questionnaire at the end of Cycle II. The percentage showed that the opinions of the questionnaire 66.83% strongly agree. These results supported the main findings of the study. In addition, it was found that subjects gave good responses to the implementation of Think Pair Share with Picture to improve writing skills.

Abstract

This ex-post facto research aims at figuring out the correlation between simple present tense mastery and descriptive paragraph writing ability of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 3 Gianyar in the academic year 2022/2023. The samples of this research were 80 students from 495 populations of the eighth-grade students at SMPN 3 Gianyar in the academic year 2022/2023, chosen by clustered random sampling technique. The data were collected by administering two research instruments in the form of a sentence writing test and paragraph construction test. Pearson product-moment correlation and t-test by SPSS 25 Version for Windows was used to correlate both simple present tense mastery (variable X) and descriptive paragraph writing ability (variable Y). The data analysis results showed that there was a correlation at (0.630) which is higher than the r-table of significant level at 5% (0.220). To sum up, the present research findings finally confirmed that there was a significant correlation between simple present tense mastery and descriptive paragraph writing ability of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 3 Gianyar in the academic year 2022/2023.

Abstract

In the academic year 2021–2022, this study seeks to enhance the speaking abilities VIII class students of SMP Negeri 2 Mengwi, particularly in presenting daily activities utilizing the talking chips method. In order to get preliminary data about students' speaking abilities, this study began by interviewing English teachers. Prior to the pre-test, the first step was taken to assess the level of the students' speaking abilities, which was found to be low. To help children develop their speaking abilities, the talking chips method was adopted. This study had two cycles, each of which had a pre-test. The average score on the first cycle pre-test was 47.66, which suggested that the students' speaking abilities were not very advanced. However, the score increased to 66.67 in the second cycle pre-test after the talking chips approach was used in the first cycle. Even so, some kids continue to have trouble with their speaking abilities. To confirm that pupils' speaking abilities were improving, a second cycle was conducted. The average score on the second cycle post-test was 78.09, which was a considerable improvement in the students' speaking abilities. The researchers also employed a questionnaire as a research tool to collect extra data. The findings of the survey revealed that students' reactions were favorable following instruction in the talking-chips method. According to the findings of this study, class VIII students at SMP Negeri 2 Mengwi can effectively improve their speaking abilities by using the talking chips technique in the academic year 2021–2022.

Abstract

This research aims to increase students’ self-confidence in speaking skills by using the Three Step Interview at Eleventh Grade on SMA Negeri 8 Denpasar. This research used Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was taken from Kemmis and McTaggarat’s design. This research was finished in one cycle that consisted of four phases, those were: planning, acting, observing, and reflection. The subject of this research was XI IPA 2 class which consist of 48 students. The method of this research was Three Step Interview which runs into some steps; a) students made a group consisting of 4 persons, b) the teacher gave the topic to the students, c) students were in pairs, one was the interviewer and the other was the interviewee, d) students A interviewed students B and student C interviewed student B, e) students reserved roles and each shared with team member what was learned during the two interviews, f) the teacher gave the reward to the best group. The instruments used in this study were an observation checklist and a questionnaire. This action research was done in two cycles. That got a positive response from the student. There are almost half students agreed to use three steps interview as a teaching method and do some tests on each cycle. The students have a significant improvement. The researchers concluded that this research was successful to increase students’ self-confidence in speaking skills.

Abstract

Cultural and wellness tourism is one of the tourism assets that can be developed to support sustainable tourism. Yoga, meditation, and self-purification are components of Balinese culture that are practised by many Indonesians and foreigners alike. Yoga, meditation, and self-purification activities can be used to promote cultural and wellness tourism to attract domestic and foreign tourists. This research was conducted to determine whether yoga, meditation, and self-purification activities support cultural tourism in Bali. The research method used is a qualitative method where data were collected through interviews and field observations. The data were then analyzed descriptively. This study found that yoga, meditation, and self-purification activities can be used to promote cultural and wellness tourism in Bali. This research has implications that yoga, meditation, and self-purification activities can be designed to be used for sustainable cultural tourism activities and can also be used for attractive promotional media.

Abstract

Writing is a crucial language skill that must be actively and consistently developed. This study used a brainstorming technique to improve student's writing skills through two cycles of learning activities using a classroom action research design. The primary data for this study were gathered by administering a questionnaire, post-tests, and pre-tests in an EFL classroom. Compared to the pre-test result, the results demonstrated that the student's writing skills had improved dramatically in the first and second learning cycles. As a result, using the brainstorming technique in writing classes is highly beneficial. According to this study, educators should consider implementing the brainstorming technique to help students become better writers.

Abstract

The reality that has occurred so far is that many students struggle to write texts using English, which has encouraged teachers to conduct Classroom Action Research because student motivation is still low; this research aims to increase students' motivation and ability to learn English, incredibly Descriptive Text material. The image media used in this research are readily available around us, cheap, familiar, and attractive to students. The method used in this Classroom Action Research utilizes Student Team Achievement Division (STAD), which is project-based learning because it is also used to motivate students to write and even do good work. The subjects in the Classroom Action Research here are state middle school students. The research results show that image media dramatically increases students' motivation and ability to write Descriptive Text. Image media is exciting and effective as a source of ideas for students when generating ideas for writing descriptive text. So, in the end, students are motivated and able to write descriptive text well. Several things influence students' low motivation in writing recount text, including students finding English difficult, feeling bored with the learning situation, and students' lack of enthusiasm.

Abstract

The selection of appropriate and ideal learning models by teaching staff or teachers so that they can be applied in the teaching and learning process is a fundamental factor that significantly influences student interest and achievement of learning outcomes. Several learning models can be applied in schools' teaching and learning process, one of which is the learning model Project Based Learning (PjBL). This research was conducted due to the student's lack of interest and learning outcomes caused by conventional learning methods, which seemed less effective and monotonous, so students did not play an active role in learning. This can be seen from the average student learning outcomes in learning about introducing myself who have not reached the minimum learning criterion so that the learning model is applied Project Based Learning (PjBL) is expected to be a solution-appropriate, effective, and efficient way to increase student interest and learning outcomes in English subjects, especially material Introducing Myself in the classroom. The research method used in classroom action research is the learning model PBjL. This is qualitative research. Based on the results of data analysis in the field, it was found that the use of learning models PBjL can increase the interest and learning outcomes of the students about introducing myself until the learning model PBjL teachers can apply it in learning activities in the classroom because it can increase student interest and learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aimed at finding out how students’ motivation influenced speaking ability of the eighth-grade students in SMPN 2 Nusa Penida. It made use of a correlation research design. The sample consist of 25 students. They were chosen by random sampling technique. The data which were needed for this research were collected through administering questionnaire about motivation and speaking test as the research instruments and delivered by using What Sapp Group platform. The obtained data were analyzed by investigating the correlation between motivation score and speaking test score which was done by using IBM SPSS Statistic 26. The result of the correlation between motivation and speaking ability was 0.506. It described that there is a significant correlation between motivation and speaking ability of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 2 Nusa Penida in academic year 2021/2022. In conclusion, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted.
