Abstract

Traditional game (TG) Galah Asin has been played for generations—a game cultivated from generation to generation for Timor Tengah Selatan residents, Indonesia-Timor Leste Border Area. People must be aware that Galah Asin's TG and activities contain mathematics concepts that can be employed in math study. This study examines ethnomathematics in Galah Asin, a conventional game in Mnelalete Village, West Amanuban District, South Central Timor Regency, NTT Province, Indonesia. An ethnographic approach was used to investigate the data. Ethnomathematics emphasizes understanding a culture's concepts, methods, and practices from its members' perspectives. The study collects data through observation, interviews, and documentation. This study analyzed data using taxonomy, domain, componential, and cultural theme analysis. The study results found flat, translational, reflecting, line, angel, and congruence geometry ideas in the game arena, body movement, and player position of Galah Asin. Galah Asin also has addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in gameplay. The implication of exploring ethnomathematics study is that understanding cultural activities can be integrated into school mathematics instruction. In addition, the ethnomathematics exploration of TG impacts the preservation of local culture.

Abstract

Computer-Based Mathematics Learning (CBML) has gone global in the last decade and is making a substantial impact for educational purposes. But the fact is that in the scientific literature, it is found that studies aimed at testing these theoretical assumptions have inconsistent results. In this regard, this meta-analysis was conducted to determine the effect of CBML and to analyze categorical variables to consider the implications. Data were retrieved from the Scopus database using Publish or Perish between 2010 and 2023. This study examined 29 independent samples from 28 eligible primary studies with 1179 subjects. The population estimate was based on a random effects model, and the CMA software was used as a calculation aid. The study's results provide an overall effect size of 1.03 (large effect). This indicates that applying CBML significantly affects students' mathematical abilities. The four categorical variables considered in the study are discussed to clarify research trends. Furthermore, the research implications are outlined and contribute to future CBML implementation arrangements.

Abstract

Abstract: Evidence suggests that social cognitive variables such as knowledge, interest, and intention play an important role in whether teachers choose Evidence suggests that social cognitive variables such as knowledge, interest, and intention play an important role in whether teachers choose to integrate technology into their instructional practices. Knowledge and interests have an impact on their intention to use educational technology. Thus, assistance is needed for teachers in implementing the TPACK phase, from getting involved to getting used to applying it in learning. SARAYA Subject Teacher Discussion (MGMP) is a group of teachers in Satarmese District, Manggarai Regency, NTT, who know the role and benefits of technology but do not have sufficient knowledge to use it in the classroom. The development of learning devices that will be operated via mobile devices is assessed according to the conditions of the teachers. Abstract

Today, there are many studies available in the literature that test the effectiveness of using augmented reality (AR). However, these studies provide varying results. In this regard, a meta-analysis is needed to examine the overall effect of all studies that question the influence of Augmented Reality-Based Learning (ARBL) on students' academic ability. Then, moderator variables need to be investigated to consider their implications. Data were examined from the Scopus and Google Scholar databases using the Publish or Perish application between 2016 and 2023. Data screening resulted in 69 independent groups of 32 eligible primary studies with 2659 subjects. Population estimation was based on a random effects model, and Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) was used as a calculation tool. The study's results provided an overall effect size of 0.81 (large effect). This shows that ARBL greatly affects students' academic ability, so its application must be considered. Of all the moderator variables analyzed, year of study, educational level differences, and subject matter were associated with differences in effect sizes in the main study. Thus, these three variables need to be considered in educational settings related to the development and implementation of ARBL in the future. Several new findings and research gaps are discussed and will help teachers, lecturers, and practitioners fill them in the future.

Abstract

Problem-based learning (PBL) has been widely applied as a learning method in mathematics education. This meta-analysis study was conducted to summarize the evidence on the effectiveness of PBL on students' comprehension abilities. An associated database was searched for studies that met the inclusion criteria. The estimation method used a random-effect model with a 95% confidence interval (CI). The study analyzed 35 effect sizes from 22 primary studies published between 2011 and 2020, and for a total of 1993, students were included. The Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) program was used to assist the analysis. As a result of the study, the overall effect size was 0.790 (moderate effect) with a standard error of 0.181. Analysis of the study characteristics revealed that the application of PBL was more effective in the conditions of the sample size set by 1 - 30 students; lower level of education, and combined with the use of mathematics learning software. These findings become a consideration for mathematics education practitioners for the implementation of PBL in the future.

Abstract

Critical thinking ability is an essential component of the four skills needed in the 21st century. However, this ability is still challenging to achieve well by students because of the lack of communication and cooperation during learning mathematics. Therefore, this experimental study with a posttest-only control design was conducted to determine the effect of using the jigsaw cooperative learning model on students' mathematical critical thinking skills. This study involved 62 students consisting of 31 students for the experimental class and 31 students for the control class. Data were analyzed using parametric statistics, namely t-test. The calculation of effect sizes is carried out to determine how much influence the Jigsaw cooperative model has on critical thinking skills using the Hedges'g equation. The analysis results concluded that the critical thinking skills of students who were taught using the jigsaw cooperative learning model were better than those taught using the direct learning model, at a significance level of 0.05. Further analysis obtained an effect size of 0.64, indicating that jigsaw cooperative learning has a moderate effect on students' critical thinking skills. These results provide helpful information for educators and researchers to consider mediators that might mediate the implementation of the learning method in the future.
