Abstract

Mother’s knowledge is very important because it is one of the contributing factors to the emergence of stunting in toddlers. Mothers with low knowledge have a higher risk of their children experiencing stunting compared to mothers with sufficient knowledge. The family plays a very important role in efforts to prevent stunting. Preventing stunting in families can be associated with eight family functions that support each other. This study aims to analyze the effect of education on improving the knowledge of mothers with toddlers regarding the 8 family functions. The eight family funtions are the religious function, sosio-cultural function, affection function, protection function, reproduction function, socialization and education function, economic function, and environmental development function. This research method is quantitative, using a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest questionnaire instrument. The sample consists of 30 mothers with toddlers at risk of stunting in the Family Planning Village (Kampung KB), Lembah Murai Village. Data analysis used the Paired T-Test to test the effect of education on the 8 family functions before and after the intervention. The results show an average knowledge score increase of 21.76 after the intervention. The results of the Paired T-Test indicate a p value of 0,000, which signifies a statistically significant difference between the scores before and after the education on the 8 family funtions. Therefore, a good family role is very important in forming healthy living patterns in toddlers, making the active role of the family the key to supporting the optimal growth and development of toddlers. It is recommended that the education program be carried out regularly by involving cadres as active companions to support the understanding of mothers with toddlers in stunting prevention. Keywords: Education, Family Function, Stunting, Knowledge of Mothers of Toddlers

Abstract

Sexual violence that occurs in children's classrooms places them with a significant impact on their health and lifelong well-being. This study aimed to identify the Family Intervention Model's effectiveness on parents' practical communication skills in preventing children from acts of sexual violence in border areas. This research comprised 23 wives and 23 husbands from Kecamatan Sajingan Besar. Qualitative data was collected with observations. During the research, the Parents Effective Communication Scale was used as means of quantitative data collection. The pre-test scale was given in the rapport-building session, and the post-test for the last session of intervention. The data has been analyzed using Wilcoxon Test. The Wilcoxon test showed the Z value is -5.437 with a significance value (p-value) of 0.000. The test significance value (p-value) is smaller than 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05), so there was a significant difference in parents' effective communication after the intervention. Keywords: effective communication; family intervention models; sexual violence

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of emotional experience writing (EXPRIT) model in enhancing the problem-solving skills among adolescents with social-emotional problems in orphanages. The EXPRIT model is an intervention based on cognitive psychotherapy that can train adolescents’ socio-emotional problem-solving skills. The prevalence study found that 26.9% had behavioral disorders and 10.2% of emotional disorders of orphans were found in the 10-14 years old age group. Initial interviews conducted for this study indicated that children in the orphanage experienced problems such as difficulties in adapting at their environment in the orphanage and some emotional behavior problems. A total 15 participants from various orphanages were included in a one-group pre-test and post-test experimental design research. Problem-solving skills were assessed using an adapted “Teen Wellness Self-Assessment” scale. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, and the data were analyzed using the paired sample t-test. The findings demonstrate a significant positive impact of the EXPRIT intervention on enhancing problem-solving skills in orphaned adolescent, t(14) = 4.503, p = .000; Cohen’s d = 1.163, suggesting substantial practical significance with potential implications for addressing socioemotional challenges in this population. Despite its promising results, this current study was limited byits small sample size. These findings highlightthe importance of targeted interventions in addressing the needs of orphaned youth dealing with socio-emotional problems

Abstract

Bengkayang is a district contributing to stunting cases in West Kalimantan, at 30.1% by 2022. The figure has increased compared to the previous year. The majority of the population in this district is the Ahe Dayak tribe, with an average level of secondary to lower education, i.e., no SD, SD, or SLTP graduates. It can affect public understanding, especially among young mothers, of stunting prevention efforts. One of the priority stunting villages in the district is Tumiang Village, which is in the category of Quality Family Village (Kampung KB) with remote access to health services. These factors are determinants of the intensity of health services from the local health force, so it is necessary to make an effort to improve education for young mothers in the prevention of stunting. The study aims to analyze the impact of education through the Stunting Prevention Diary on the improvement of Mother Balita's knowledge in Quality Family Village. The design used was quasi-experimental, with a one-group pretest and posttest. Samples of as many as 30 mothers who have news and are in the village of Tumiang Samalantan Prefecture were taken by purposive sampling. The measurement was done twice over a month of intervention using the Stunting Prevention Diary media. The data was analyzed using a pair T test (α = 95%). The results of the study showed that the majority of young mothers are unemployed (playing as a householder of 53.5%), the job of the head of the family is a farmer/manager/garden worker (80%), the educational level of the mother is SLTP and SLTA (36.7%), and the family income under UMK Bengkayang district was 70%. The knowledge score of the respondents increased from 9.40 to 12.83. The intervention provided is educational through the media. Diary Prevention Stunting is effective in improving the knowledge of the mother of the newborn. Thus, it can be concluded that the education of stunting prevention using the media Diary stunting prevention has an influence on the improvement of mothers' knowledge and can be used as one of the examples of health promotion efforts in order to accelerate the decline in stunting in Bengkayang district.

Abstract

Family is the smallest unit in society that significantly contributes to protecting family members, one of which is protecting and preventing sexual violence against children and adolescents. The family intervention model (FIM) is a family-based intervention model through efforts to change cognitive, affective, and behavioral aspects. This model seeks to impart knowledge and change parents' behavior concerning the issue of sexual violence in children and adolescents through the application of the family intervention model. This research used a quasi-experimental mixed-method with both quantitative and qualitative approaches. This study found that the paired sample t-test statistically showed that family intervention model contributed to changes in parental behavior toward sexual violence (p-value = 0.000). The results of the regression analysis showed that the family intervention model helped bring bout changes in family behavior toward sexual violence in children and adolescents, by 64%. It is importance to improve the role of parents in increasing communication and assertiveness within the family as a preventive measure against sexual violence.
