Abstract

This study aims to design case-based learning with lesson study learning trajectory with the help of teaching aids to make students understand Prim’s, Cruscal’s, and Djiksra’s Algorithms. The validation study was selected because it is a suitable method for this research. The research subjects were 41 Mathematics Education Study Program Students at Universitas Negeri Padang.  This research data were collected using Interview guidelines, journals, and observation sheets. Data analysis was carried out by transcribing interviews, reducing, presenting, and drawing conclusions from the data. A lesson study was chosen as an alternative to improve and reflect on the learning process. Moreover, two expert lecturers supervised the groups during the learning process. A proper design of case-based learning with lesson study learning trajectory with the help of teaching aids development process is obtained. Using a case-based learning method can make students understand Prim’s, Cruscal’s, and Djiksra’s Algorithms. This design can be used by the other lecturers to provide a learning process of Prim’s, Cruscal’s, and Djiksra’s Algorithms or other topics.

Abstract

This study examines the development of learning designs based on Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) on the probability topic at the eighth-grade junior high school level. Probability abounds in everyday life, and the RME approach is believed to develop students’ mathematical communication skills. This learning design development used the Plomp model combined with Gravemeijer and Cobb model. The research phase includes preliminary research, prototyping phase, and assessment phase. The products of this research are a valid, practice, and effective Local Instructional Theory (LIT) and teacher and student books. The results showed that the students who participated in learning using RME-based designs could determine the concept of probability and effectively improve students’ mathematical communication skills.

Abstract

Mathematics communication ability is an essential component of mathematics that students should have. However, the mathematics communication ability of students, especially in Indonesia, still needs to improve. This study offers a new and different view of mathematics communication to improve it. This study aims to develop an assessment tool for students’ mathematics communication to identify the problems so teachers can focus on improving those areas. Not only the cognitive domain of the students, but this study also includes assessments of the affective and psychomotor domains as well. The reason is that cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects are interconnected in mathematics communication. The study of these three domains is called behavior. The assessment tools consist of the mathematics communication behavior analytical rubric and appropriate mathematics test problems. This study is developmental research with three phases: the development of the analytical rubric, the development of mathematics tests, and the application. The participants in this study are two mathematics education experts and 240 students in the 8th grade from seven schools, each located in a different city. The findings of this research show that the developed assessment tools can be used to assess students’ mathematics communication behavior.

Abstract

One of the research objectives was formulated to improve the quality of education, namely by understanding the problems of students and teachers. There were three main groups of quality characteristics of education highlighted in scientific and academic literature in Russia, namely the quality of educational objectives, the quality of the educational process, and the quality of educational outcomes. The problem of education in Indonesia is the quality of the education process. The development of teaching materials is an alternative to improve the quality of the education process. Research so far has only focused on the implementation of learning models by teachers in the classroom, but the model is not integrated into the teaching materials used. This paper examines how the effectiveness of a product that has been developed for two years on 27 Indonesian students. The product produced is a guided discovery-based module in the Complex Analysis subject. This product was developed after the preliminary analysis (defining) process. Students are given 16 modules during lectures; then students are given a final test containing all the competencies that must be achieved. Test results are scored, and statistical analyses are conducted to compare them with student score before using the module. The test used is t-test. The design used is one of the experimental research designs, One Shot Case Study. The results of the study showed that students who were taught with modules developed effectively to improve student learning outcomes. Further research can be done by implementing different learning models in teaching materials.

Abstract

Mathematical representation plays a pivotal role in students’ understanding, reasoning, and problem-solving processes. Despite its centrality in mathematics education, systematic approaches to assessing representational behavior remain limited, particularly within diverse cultural and curricular contexts. Existing assessment practices often emphasize cognitive outcomes, overlooking affective, psychomotor, and meta-representational dimensions that shape students’ mathematical understanding. Addressing this gap, the present study developed and validated an analytical rubric designed to assess mathematical representation behavior comprehensively across these four domains. Grounded in the Educational Design Research (EDR) framework, the rubric was constructed through four iterative stages—reflection, recording, grouping and naming, and application. Six mathematics education experts from Indonesia and Malaysia participated in the validation process, while empirical data were collected from 42 undergraduate students who had completed a geometry course. The analysis revealed strong content validity, with Aiken’s V coefficients ranging from 0.78 to 0.93 and full expert agreement, confirming the rubric’s clarity and relevance in evaluating representational behaviors. The rubric categorized student performance into three levels—Eikasia, Dianoia, and Intellectus—providing a nuanced diagnostic framework for assessing students’ mathematical representation. This study contributes to the field by introducing a cross-culturally grounded assessment tool that integrates cognitive, affective, psychomotor, and meta-representational perspectives. The findings highlight the rubric’s potential as both a formative and diagnostic instrument, enhancing the precision of assessment and offering insights for improving mathematics instruction and future digital-based evaluation practices.
