Abstract

One of the research objectives was formulated to improve the quality of education, namely by understanding the problems of students and teachers. There were three main groups of quality characteristics of education highlighted in scientific and academic literature in Russia, namely the quality of educational objectives, the quality of the educational process, and the quality of educational outcomes. The problem of education in Indonesia is the quality of the education process. The development of teaching materials is an alternative to improve the quality of the education process. Research so far has only focused on the implementation of learning models by teachers in the classroom, but the model is not integrated into the teaching materials used. This paper examines how the effectiveness of a product that has been developed for two years on 27 Indonesian students. The product produced is a guided discovery-based module in the Complex Analysis subject. This product was developed after the preliminary analysis (defining) process. Students are given 16 modules during lectures; then students are given a final test containing all the competencies that must be achieved. Test results are scored, and statistical analyses are conducted to compare them with student score before using the module. The test used is t-test. The design used is one of the experimental research designs, One Shot Case Study. The results of the study showed that students who were taught with modules developed effectively to improve student learning outcomes. Further research can be done by implementing different learning models in teaching materials.

Abstract

PISA studies from 2000 to 2022 revealed that the achievements of Thailand’s students in mathematics were always better than those of Indonesian students. Thailand still uses the 2008 curriculum until now. Meanwhile, Indonesia already changed its curriculum three times during these periods, namely Curriculum 2006, Curriculum 2013, and Curriculum 2020. Based on this data, it is important to investigate the impact of the curriculum and its implementation on students’ mathematical literacy. This study aimed to investigate how students in Thailand performed better in mathematical literacy compared to their Indonesian counterparts within the context of mathematics curricula.  We compared the mathematics curricula of the two countries and analyzed the implementation of the curricula in mathematics learning. Document analysis, observations, and interviews were conducted. The results show that the curricula and how they are implemented in the two countries are not strikingly different. Three notable differences are students’ focus in the learning process, the preparation of learning admissions by teachers, and changes in the curriculum.

Abstract

Abstract

The cultural approach in learning mathematics connects abstract concepts with everyday life, helping students understand mathematics meaningfully. This study aims to explore the ethnomathematics of the Seleman Kerinci’s Larik Panjang house, identifying mathematical contexts in real-world applications. Using an ethnographic approach with qualitative research methods, data collection techniques included observation, documentation, and interviews. The primary data collection instrument was the researcher, supported by observation sheets, interview guidelines, and documentation. The study began with a literature review and geometric material analysis, followed by data reduction, data presentation, verification, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal mathematical elements in the house’s architecture, including: (1) plane figures such as triangles, rectangles, and rhombuses; (2) solid figures like octagonal prisms and rectangular beams; and (3) transformations involving reflection and rotation. These mathematical aspects demonstrate the integration of indigenous knowledge into architectural design. Ethnomathematics in traditional architecture is expected to serve as an engaging learning medium, making mathematics more relevant to students while preserving local wisdom as part of the nation’s cultural identity. This research contributes to the development of contextual mathematics education, highlighting the importance of cultural heritage in shaping mathematical understanding.

Abstract

Mathematical representation is an essential skill in the Merdeka Curriculum; however, assessment results indicate that this ability still needs improvement. The purpose of this study was to develop learning tools (Teaching Module, Student Worksheet (LKPD), and Learning Video) that can enhance students’ mathematical representation ability. This study applied the Plomp development model, which consists of three stages: preliminary research, prototyping, and assessment. The research subjects included experts for validation, three students with different ability levels for the one-to-one trial, six students for the small group trial, and one full class for the field test. Data were collected through interviews, observations, literature review, validation sheets, questionnaires, and interviews with both students and experts. Data analysis was carried out using quantitative techniques for validation and effectiveness, combined with qualitative interpretation and descriptive statistics. The results showed that the developed learning tools were declared valid by experts with validity scores of 4.10, 4.03, 4.11, 4.13, and 4.88, respectively. The tools were also highly practical, with practicality scores of 94.67% from teachers and 93.73% from students, and effective in improving mathematical representation skills with an average test mastery of 73%. Based on these results, it can be concluded that mathematics learning tools assisted by video using the SAVI model are valid, practical, and effective. The implication is that these findings contribute to the development of innovative mathematics learning that supports the enhancement of students’ mathematical representation skills.
