Abstract

Technology-based learning media is still lacking for special needs students in mathematics. Based on observations and interviews with Special School (SLB) teachers, the learning media used were still monotonous, such as picture books and writing using a blackboard. This research aims to develop e-comic math using the App Pixton application, which is valid and practical for children with special needs in SLB. The research method used is Plomp model development research in the prototype development phase: self-evaluation, expert review, and one-to-one evaluation. The data collection instruments used were a questionnaire and mathematical concepts on addition and subtraction topics for students with special needs. The research subjects were 21 students and 5 teachers from 5 different special schools in 5 West Sumatra, Indonesia cities. The study results show that the media developed is valid and practical for students with deaf and intellectual disabilities. This research implies that teachers must be able to develop other IT-based learning media to help students with special needs learn mathematics like normal children.

Abstract

Teori Graf merupakan salah satu materi yang dipelajari oleh mahasiswa Pendidikan Matematika dalam mata kuliah Matematika Diskrit. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengukur sejauh mana pemahaman mahasiswa calon guru matematika pada penggunaan teori graf dalam menghitung lintasan terpendek. Jenis penelitian ini yaitu penelitian kualitatif dengan memanfaatkan metode literature riview dan studi kasus. Literatur riview digunakan untuk memperoleh informasi dan sejarah teori graf. Studi kasus melibatkan sepuluh orang mahasiswa semester 4 yang diambil secara acak dari lima kelas yang tersedia pada program studi Pendidikan Matematika tahun angkatan 2021 di Universitas Negeri Padang. Mahasiswa ini diberikan satu buah soal tentang lintasan terpendek dan diminta menyelesaikan persoalan tersebut dengan pemahaman yang telah mereka pelajari dalam Matematika Diskrit. Selanjutnya respon mahasiswa ini dikelompokkan ke dalam tiga kategori berdasarkan tingkat pemahamannya. Dari respon tersebut ditemukan bahwa sebagian besar responden tidak dapat menjawab persoalan yang diberikan sesuai dengan yang mereka pelajari dalam mata kuliah Matematika Diskrit. Penemuan ini memberikan kesimpulan bahwa mahasiswa program studi Pendidikan Matematika UNP tahun angkatan 2021 masih kurang memahami bagaimana menyelesaikan persoalan lintasan terpendek dengan pengaplikasian Teori Graf. Hasil temuan akan dipaparkan secara rinci dalam artikel ini.

Abstract

All students from every level of education should have excellent and adequate creative thinking, but in Indonesia students’ creative thinking is still low. There are a lot of factors that affect creative thinking, such as learning styles. This study aimed to investigate the comparison of students’ creative thinking based on study level and learning styles, gender, and the combination of the three to determine which factor or type of students needs to be improved. This research uses a statistics descriptive method. The participants of this study were 38 senior high school students, 35 students of the teacher professional program (PPG), 24 undergraduate students (S1), and 12 master program students (S2). The instrument used in this study is a learning styles Learning style test to determine the student’s learning styles and creative thinking questions to classify the students. The results of this study are i) Students’ level of study does not determine their creativity level; ii) Based on gender, female is more creative than a man; iii) Based on the learning style, visual students is the best, followed by kinesthetic and auditory in order; and iv) Merdeka curriculum of Indonesia, nowadays, is essential to make the best learning process to improve students’ creative thinking.

Abstract

Penemuan William Oughtred berupa alat peraga yang disebut slide rule membuat matematika terus berkembang. Slide rule membantu para ilmuwan dan teknisi dalam melakukan perhitungan matematika kompleks, serta membuka jalan perkembangan teknologi baru. Tujuan penelitian untuk memotivasi, memberikan informasi, dan mengetahui pengetahuan mahasiswa calon guru mengenai matematikawan Oughtred dan penemuannya. Penelitian berjenis kualitatif dengan metode literature review dan studi kasus. Literatur review didapatkan dari beberapa jurnal yang berhubungan. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menelaah, menganalisis, dan mengelompokkan sehingga diperoleh kesimpulan. Studi kasus didapat dari wawancara terhadap subjek penelitian, yaitu 10 mahasiswa prodi pendidikan matematika. Instrumen berbentuk wawancara terbuka. Setiap mahasiswa diberikan pertanyaan mengenai pengetahuan tentang William Oughtred dan penemuannya. Analisis data dilakukan dengan meta analisis dan analisis tematik. Hasil penelitian menunjukan terdapat tiga kategori respon mahasiswa pendidikan matematika terhadap topik wawancara. Kategori tersebut yaitu Know History Oughtred, Forget History Oughtred, dan Indifferent to History Oughtred. William Oughtred's invention in the form of a teaching aid called the slide rule made mathematics continue to develop. Slide rules help scientists and technicians perform complex mathematical calculations and pave the way for new technological developments. The research aims to motivate, provide information, and find out the knowledge of prospective teacher students about the mathematician Oughtred and his findings. Qualitative research used literature review and case study methods. Literature reviews were obtained from several related journals. Data collection techniques are carried out by examining, analyzing, and grouping conclusions obtained. Case studies were obtained from interviews with research subjects, namely 10 students in a mathematics education study program. The instrument is in the form of an open interview. Each student is given questions regarding knowledge about William Oughtred and his discoveries. Data analysis was performed by meta-analysis and thematic analysis. The results showed that there were three categories of mathematics education students' responses to the interview topic. These categories are Know History Oughtred, Forget History Oughtred, and Indifferent to History Oughtred.

Abstract

Banyak matematikawan yang berkontribusi terhadap temuan matematika, diantara matematikawan tersebut adalah De Moivre. De Moivre lahir pada 26 Mei 1667.Dia adalah seorang ahli matematika Prancis yang dikenal dengan rumus Moivre, rumus untuk bilangan kompleks dan trigonometri, dan untuk karyanya tentang distribusi normal dan teori probabilitas. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memaparkan biografi De moivre dan untuk mengetahui sejauh mana pengetahuan mahasiswa pendidikan matematika tahun 2021 tentang De Moivre beserta penemuannya. Dalam penelitian ini penulis menggunakan jenis penelitian kualitatif dengan metode literatur review dan studi kasus. Literatur review dilakukan dengan mengkaji artikel-artikel untuk mengetahui biografi De Moivre dan temuannya. Studi kasus dilakukan dengan mewawancarai sepuluh mahasiswa program studi pendidikan matematika tahun 2021 dari lima kelas yang ada. Instumen yang digunakan yaitu wawancara terbuka. Setiap mahasiswa di beri pertanyaan tentang apa yang mereka ketahui mengenai matematikawan De Moivre dan temuannya. Analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah meta review dan analisis tematik. Abstract

The logic of shape, number, and sequence is the subject of mathematics. We use mathematics in everything we do. Available everywhere. Everything we use every day—computers, software, hardware, art, money, engineering, sports, and even ancient and modern architecture is built around it. In the realm of number theory, mathematicians study various aspects of prime numbers, including the distribution of prime numbers, ordering patterns of prime numbers, and methods for generating prime numbers. Even the most ancient and rudimentary societies used mathematics, and since the beginning of history, mathematical discoveries have been made. at the forefront of every civilized civilization. This is simple but can be applied to many phenomena in everyday life, making an Ancient Greek mathematician from the Hellenestic era named Erastothenes successful in being the person who created an extraordinary discovery, namely, the Erastothenes Sieve. Therefore, the aim of this research is to provide encouragement to junior high school students to understand and be interested in studying mathematics, especially the Erastothenes measurement method and then apply it in everyday life. This type of research is qualitative research with a descriptive approach and literature review method. The instruments used in this research are tests, interviews and documentation. The results of this research show the level of students' understanding of the Sieve of Eratosthenes.

Abstract

Literacy and numeracy are the abilities of students to use basic mathematics in solving daily life problems, and students should have it. Various studies have shown that Indonesian students' literacy and numeracy skills still need to improve. One of the solutions to this problem is RME, and one of the components that influence this skill is teachers as a facilitator and their experiences. Thus, this research aims to refigure how students who receive Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) literacy and numeracy skills improve based on teacher's experiences. The research subjects are third, fourth, and fifth-grade students in elementary schools in Padang. Three schools were selected for each grade level and taught by three teachers with different experiences. The students were given literacy and numeracy problems before and after RME instruction. The answers were assessed and grouped to examine the student's literacy and numeracy achievement. The research results show that student's literacy and numeracy skills are better with RME learning. Student's literacy and numeracy skills are not influenced by teachers' experience.

Abstract

Hubungan antara filsafat dan matematika sangat kuat dibandingkan dengan semua bidang lain karena keduanya merupakan dasar dari semua bidang lain. Bahkan, ada yang bependapat bahwa keduanya adalah induk dari semua bidang ilmu pengetahuan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memberikan informasi tentang filsafat matematika dan untuk mengetahui seberapa memahami siswa SMP terhadap filsafat matematika. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif yang menggunakan literatur review dan studi kasus. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa SMP sebanyak duapuluh lima orang. Penelitian ini menggunakan analisis beberapa artikel dan pengisian kuisioner yang mengajukan pertanyaan kepada siswa SMP sebagai instrumen penelitian. Analisis data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode meta review dan tematik. Hasil dari penelitian ini menyajikan informasi mengenai filsafat matematika dan menganalisis pemahaman siswa SMP terhadap filsafat matematika.

Abstract

Sejarah trigonometri sangat penting bagi siswa untuk mempelajari materi trigonometri. Salah satu cabnag matematika yaitu trigonometri. Trigonometri berasal dari bahasa Yunani berarti trigonon yang artinya tiga sudut dan metro artinya “mengukur,” yang membahas sudut segitiga dan fungsi trigonometri. Fokus penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis kemampuan pemahaman siswa SMP. Studi kasus ini adalah penelitian kualitatif yang melibatkan lima siswa SMP. Instrumen dalam penelitian ini adalah 1) rasa ingin tahu penulis mengenai sejarah trigonometri 2) pengisian kuisioner mengenai kemampuan pemahaman siswa SMP terkait sejarah trigonometri. Penelitian ini menggunakan teknik meta review. Hasil dari penelitian ini memberikan pemahaman siswa  SMP terkait sejarah trigonometri Yunani.

Abstract

Euclid's Elements is a work written by an ancient Greek mathematician named Euclid in the 3rd century BC. It is one of history's most famous and influential mathematical works, serving as a significant basis for studying geometry and number theory for centuries. This research aims to describe Euclid's Elements and determine the extent of high school students' knowledge about Euclid and his work and their level of understanding in solving mathematical problems. This qualitative research utilizes case study methods and literature reviews. Data were collected through problem-solving exercises and interviews. Thematic data analysis was conducted to elucidate Euclid's Elements and students' level of knowledge. The case study involved presenting mathematics problems and interviewing five high school students, using assessment instruments incorporating problem-solving and open interviews. The findings reveal that many students lack familiarity with the elements of Euclid's Elements but demonstrate proficiency in solving mathematical problems related to it.
