Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The aim of this activity is to educate and empower the community to actively participate in conservation efforts, which involves mangrove planting mutual cooperation activities, the formation of environmental awareness groups, and collaboration with NGOs, government, and academics. The activity methods used are providing education using lectures, educational videos, distributing flyers and posters and planting mangrove seedlings on the beach. To measure the success of education, pre tests and post tests were used to measure the level of community knowledge about mangrove forest conservation. The results of this activity increased community knowledge by 6.13, from 12.53 (before education) to 18.66 (after education). The T-test results obtained a p-value <0.001. That is, statistically it can be concluded that there is a significant average difference between community knowledge before and after education. The conclusion of this activity is that after being given education, the average community has increased knowledge about mangrove forest conservation as an effort to reduce disaster risk. It is hoped that the community and local government will be able to maintain and preserve mangrove forests in the Bosua Village area as a form of effort in disaster mitigation.

Abstract

Background: Women's involvement in decision-making related to health services has a significant impact on improving maternal and child health, as well as strengthening women's empowerment. In 2022, the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in Pasaman Barat District was 195 per 100,000 live births, ranking first among districts and cities in West Sumatra Province. Objective: This study aims to identify factors associated with women's physical independence in accessing maternal and child health (MCH) services. Methods: This is an analytical study using a cross-sectional design. The sample size was 106 participants. Results: 3.2% of respondents had low independence in utilizing MCH services. Residential area (p-value = 0.038; AOR = 0.321) and knowledge about MCH (p-value = 0.001; AOR = 7.015) were the dominant factors associated with women's physical independence in utilizing MCH services. Meanwhile, husband's education, number of family members, mother's occupation, age group, mother's education, husband's occupation, family income, and access to health facilities were confounding variables in this study. Conclusion: The low level of women's autonomy in utilizing KIA services is primarily influenced by the area of residence and the level of knowledge about KIA. Educational efforts, training of health workers, and cross-sectoral collaboration are needed to improve access and gender equality in health services.

Abstract

According to a 2019 survey by United Nations Education, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), bullying occurs in children worldwide. Globally, more than 30 percent of students aged 13 to 15 regularly experience bullying. Bullying can cause anxiety and fear in adolescents, disrupt concentration in school, and encourage them to avoid the school environment. Bullying problems that occur in schools require preventive intervention. The goal is to prevent this bullying practice from continuing or escalating into more extreme actions. Interventions in the form of education and training are an initial effort to convey a message to adolescents, individuals, or groups about the dangers of bullying. Community service activities at Muhammadiyah 5 Junior High School in Padang City aimed to increase adolescents' knowledge of bullying prevention. The implementation consisted of four stages: problem analysis, preparation, implementation, and evaluation of activities. The average pretest knowledge level increased from 58.47 to 84.02 (posttest) after the education was provided to 72 students. This activity has been proven to increase students' and the school community's insight and understanding of bullying. For the program's sustainability, it is hoped that the school will be involved and committed to regular bullying eradication activities. A sustainable program will increase anti-bullying awareness in schools.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) was still a major public health challenge in Indonesia, a country that bore the second‑highest global burden of the disease. Cases among toddlers continued to be a significant public health concern because of their greater vulnerability to infection. The rising prevalence of pediatric TB, along with its complex risk factors, highlighted the need to identify the main determinants driving TB occurrence in this age group. The present study investigated factors associated with TB in toddlers across all 38 provinces of Indonesia. Data from the 2024 Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey (SSGI) were used in the analysis, and survey weights were applied following official SSGI guidelines. A cross‑sectional design was adopted, and the sample consisted of 246,338 toddlers. The dependent variable was TB occurrence, whereas the independent variables included child age, nutritional status, stunting, BCG vaccination status, history of exposure to TB patients, low birth weight, employment status of both parents, and household density. Data analysis was carried out in three stages: univariate analysis, bivariate analysis using simple logistic regression, and multivariate analysis using multiple logistic regression. Results from the bivariate analysis indicated that nutritional status, stunting, BCG vaccination, TB exposure history, and low birth weight were significantly associated with TB occurrence. In the multivariate model, a history of TB contact was identified as the most dominant determinant, yielding a prevalence odds ratio (POR) of 46.62 (95% CI: 37.13–58.54).

Abstract

The rapid increase in electronic waste (e-waste) poses significant environmental and public health challenges, particularly in developing countries such as Indonesia. This study assessed the relationship between knowledge, attitudes, perceptions of government regulations, and e-waste management practices among public health students at Universitas Andalas. This research employed a cross-sectional quantitative design, and data were collected from 298 undergraduate students in Padang, West Sumatra. selected through stratified systematic random sampling. The research instrument used validated questionnaires that measured independent variables related to e-waste, such as knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions, and the dependent variable (practices). Univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analyses used SPSS software. Results revealed that although the majority of students (63.4%) had good knowledge, more than half demonstrated negative attitudes (52.3%) and poor practices (52.7%) regarding e-waste management. There was a significant association between attitude and practice (p < 0.001), as well as between perception of government regulation and practice (p < 0.001). In contrast, the relationship between knowledge and practice was not statistically significant (p = 0.222). These findings underscore that while knowledge is important, positive attitudes and perceptions toward regulatory frameworks are more crucial in influencing responsible e-waste behaviour. The study concludes that fostering positive attitudes and trust in government regulation is vital for improving e-waste management practices among students. Educational interventions and policy reforms emphasizing knowledge enhancement and attitudinal and perceptual shifts are essential for promoting sustainable e-waste management in Indonesia.
