Abstract

Waste that is not managed properly has a negative impact on the environment, including in the school environment. In Gonilan Village, there are already several waste banks, but there is no waste bank in schools. This community service aims to provide teachers with a guidebook for managing waste banks in schools so that they can give examples to students. The method used is providing material in the form of a guidebook containing the definition, purpose, benefits of waste banks, types of waste, 3R principles, waste bank system mechanisms, and waste management flows. Educational activities at SDN Gonilan 2 went well, marked by positive responses from all participating teachers. The guidebook was appropriate, easy to understand, and suitable for use. This success was supported by the active participation of teachers, the suitability of the material, and the book's feasibility test process. However, there are challenges such as the need for broader follow-up information on waste management, a comprehensive deepening of the management cycle, and the provision of more interesting examples and illustrations to motivate readers. Based on the evaluation using a questionnaire, it can be concluded that the waste bank management guidebook was considered effective as an educational medium by SDN Gonilan 2 teachers in improving waste management in schools. This is demonstrated by the teacher's positive responses to the appropriateness of the content, ease of understanding, suitability of use, and potential for increasing motivation offered by the guidebook.

Abstract

Abstrak: Hipertensi sebagai penyakit tidak menular yang prevalensinya meningkat menjadi masalah kesehatan serius, terutama pada mahasiswa Indonesia di luar negeri yang mengalami perubahan gaya hidup akibat culture shock. Pengabdian ini bertujuan meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan pencegahan hipertensi pada mahasiswa Indonesia di Khon Kaen University, Thailand. Metode yang digunakan adalah ceramah dan diskusi yang diikuti oleh 25 mahasiswa anggota PERMITHA, dengan evaluasi melalui pre-test dan post-test. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan rata-rata nilai pengetahuan dari 8,28% menjadi 11,92%, atau peningkatan sebesar 3,64%. Intervensi edukasi ini efektif dalam membentuk kesadaran dan perilaku hidup sehat sebagai upaya pencegahan hipertensi pada mahasiswa di lingkungan diaspora Indonesia.Abstract: Hypertension, as a non-communicable disease whose prevalence is increasing, has become a serious health problem, especially for Indonesian students abroad who experience lifestyle changes due to culture shock. This community service aims to improve knowledge and skills in preventing hypertension in Indonesian students at Khon Kaen University, Thailand. The methods used were lectures and discussions attended by 25 PERMITHA student members, with evaluation through pre-tests and post-tests. The results showed an increase in the average knowledge score from 8.28% to 11.92%, representing a 3.64% increase. This educational intervention is effective in forming awareness and healthy living behavior as an effort to prevent hypertension in students in the Indonesian diaspora environment.

Abstract

Abstrak Anemia pada remaja putri merupakan masalah kesehatan yang dapat meningkatkan risiko stunting pada generasi berikutnya. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk mendeteksi dini anemia dan memberikan edukasi serta intervensi awal melalui pemberian Tablet Tambah Darah (TTD) sebagai upaya pencegahan stunting. Metode kegiatan yang digunakan mencakup ceramah, diskusi, dan demonstrasi. Metode kegiatan terdiri dari tiga tahap, yaitu perencanaan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi. Kegiatan dilakukan di Desa Kemasan, Kecamatan Polokarto, Kabupaten Sukoharjo, pada 30 Agustus–3 September 2024 dengan sasaran 64 remaja putri anggota karang taruna. Kegiatan ini mencakup edukasi tentang anemia, skrining hemoglobin (Hb), serta suplementasi TTD. Dari 32 peserta yang menjalani skrining Hb, sebanyak 30 orang (93,8%) memiliki kadar hemoglobin normal, sementara dua peserta mengalami anemia ringan. Antusiasme peserta tercermin dari keterlibatan aktif dalam diskusi dan kemauan sebagian besar remaja mengonsumsi TTD secara langsung. Meskipun belum dilakukan pemantauan lanjutan, kegiatan edukasi dan intervensi awal ini dinilai mampu membangun kesadaran awal dan respon positif remaja terhadap pencegahan anemia, meskipun diperlukan evaluasi lanjutan untuk mengukur dampak jangka panjangnya. Kata kunci: anemia; edukasi; remaja putri; stunting; tablet tambah darah. Abstract Anemia in adolescent girls is a health problem that can increase the risk of stunting in the next generation. This activity aims to detect anemia early and provide education and early intervention through the provision of Iron Tablets (TTD) as an effort to prevent stunting. The activity methods used include lectures, discussions, and demonstrations. The activity method consists of three stages, namely planning, implementation, and evaluation. The activity was carried out in Kemasan Village, Polokarto District, Sukoharjo Regency, on August 30–September 3, 2024 targeting 64 adolescent girls who are members of Karang Taruna. This activity includes education about anemia, hemoglobin (Hb) screening, and TTD supplementation. Of the 32 participants who underwent Hb screening, 30 people (93.8%) had normal hemoglobin levels, while two participants had mild anemia. The enthusiasm of the participants was reflected in their active involvement in the discussion and the willingness of most adolescents to consume TTD directly. Although further monitoring has not been carried out, this education and early intervention activity is considered capable of building initial awareness and a positive response from adolescen. Keywords: anemia; adolescent girls; education; iron supplement tablets; stunting.

Abstract

Pendahuluan: Permasalahan pengelolaan sampah di sekolah masih menjadi tantangan besar, termasuk di SMP Negeri 2 Wonosari Klaten, yang telah memiliki sarana pendukung namun belum optimal dalam pemanfaatannya. Studi ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan, keterampilan, dan peran siswa dalam pengelolaan sampah di SMP N 2 Wonosari Klaten. Metode: Program dilakukan melalui sosialisasi, edukasi, pelatihan penggunaan alat penghancur sampah, pendampingan dan pelatihan pembuatan ecobric dan biopori, evaluasi dengan pretest-posttest. Hasil: Terdapat peningkatan signifikan pengetahuan siswa tentang pengelolaan sampah (pretest mean 9,02 menjadi posttest mean 9,40; p=0,000) dan pemanfaatan biopori (pretest mean 7,43 menjadi posttest mean 8,10; p=0,001). Siswa juga berpartisipasi secara aktif dalam praktik pembuatan ecobrik dan penggunaan alat pencacah sampah. Kesimpulan: Optimalisasi peran siswa melalui pendekatan edukatif dan praktis terbukti efektif dalam mendukung program pengelolaan sampah berkelanjutan di sekolah dan dapat direplikasi di institusi pendidikan lainnya.

Abstract

Abstrak: Permasalahan sampah terus meningkat seiring dengan pertumbuhan penduduk, perilaku konsumsi, dan gaya hidup masyarakat. Program pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan siswa Sekolah Dasar tentang pengelolaan sampah. Metode yang digunakan ada dua, yakni ceramah menggunakan bantuan Power Point dan video animasi. Kegiatan ini melibatkan 50 siswa kelas 5 dan 6 yang dibagi menjadi dua kelompok berdasarkan metode penyuluhan. Penilaian dilakukan melalui pre-test dan post-test menggunakan kuesioner sebanyak 8 pertanyaan. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan rata-rata nilai pengetahuan sebesar 18,04 pada kelompok metode ceramah dan 13,4 pada kelompok metode video animasi. Metode ceramah terbukti lebih efektif dibandingkan video animasi karena memberikan kesempatan untuk interaksi langsung dan tanya jawab, sementara metode video animasi cenderung menarik perhatian siswa pada elemen visual. Kesimpulannya, metode ceramah lebih cocok digunakan dalam edukasi pengelolaan sampah di tingkat sekolah dasar untuk mencapai hasil pembelajaran yang optimal. Abstract: Waste problems continue to increase with population growth, consumption patterns, and people's lifestyles. This service program aims to increase the knowledge of elementary school students about waste management. Two methods are used, namely lectures with the help of Power Point and animated videos. This activity involved 50 5th and 6th grade students who were divided into two groups based on the guidance method. Evaluation was done by pre-test and post-test using a questionnaire of 8 questions. The results showed an increase in the average knowledge score of 18.04 in the lecture method group and 13.4 in the animated video method group. The lecture method proved to be more effective than the animated video method because it provided opportunities for direct interaction and question and answer, while the animated video method tended to focus students' attention on the visual elements. In conclusion, the lecture method is more suitable for waste management education at the primary school level to achieve optimal learning outcomes.

Abstract

The high prevalence of smoking in Indonesia, especially among adolescents aged 15 and above, remains a public health problem. Schools, as educational institutions, play a crucial role in shaping student behavior, including preventing smoking. This community service program aims to examine the impact of video-assisted education on students' knowledge and attitudes toward the Smoke-Free Area (KTR) policy at MTs Waru Sukoharjo. The study employed a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test methods, and video as an intervention tool. Forty-five students participated in the study. The results, analyzed using the Wilcoxon test, showed a significant increase in students' knowledge (from a mean score of 5.40 to 6.11; p=0.002) and attitudes (from 10.06 to 11.60; p=0.004) after the education. These findings demonstrate that video media is effective in increasing students' awareness and support for the KTR policy at school. This initiative supports the broader goal of improving health and preventing early smoking among adolescents. The recommended follow-up is to monitor the implementation of policies in the school environment.

Abstract

Pendahuluan: Penggunaan alat kontrasepsi pada pria di Indonesia masih sangat rendah. Hal ini disebabkan oleh karakteristik individu yang mempengaruhi pola pikir dalam menanggapi dan menerima konsep kontrasepsi, rendahnya tingkat pengetahuan dan sikap pria mengenai kesehatan reproduksi dalam penggunaan alat kontrasepsi. Banyak faktor yang mempengaruhi pria untuk mengikuti program Keluarga Berencana (KB), yaitu faktor dari sisi klien atau pria itu sendiri (pengetahuan, sikap pria dan kebutuhan yang diinginkan), faktor lingkungan yaitu dukungan keluarga terutama dukungan istri, sosial budaya, keterbatasan informasi dan akses terhadap layanan KB pria, serta keterbatasan jenis alat kontrasepsi pria. Tujuan dari kajian pustaka ini adalah untuk menganalisis berbagai faktor yang mempengaruhi penggunaan metode KB pada pria di Indonesia. Metode: Desain kajian pustaka ini adalah kajian pustaka. Artikel yang digunakan adalah artikel penelitian potong lintang dengan responden suami/pria. Kriteria inklusi artikel terpilih adalah pria yang menggunakan program KB serta penelitian dengan data primer dan regional di Indonesia. Hasil: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengetahuan, usia menikah, dan nilai-nilai anak memiliki hubungan yang signifikan dengan partisipasi pria dalam program keluarga berencana. Pengetahuan tentang keluarga berencana memiliki peluang partisipasi sebesar 2,037 kali, usia menikah ≥ 25 tahun memiliki peluang partisipasi sebesar 0,535 kali, dan anak dengan nilai cukup (≤ 2) memiliki peluang partisipasi sebesar 1,821 kali. Kesimpulan: Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah pengetahuan merupakan faktor dominan yang memengaruhi penggunaan metode Keluarga Berencana (KB).   Introduction: The use of contraceptives among men in Indonesia is still very low. This is because individual characteristics influence the mindset in responding to and accepting the concept of contraception, the low level of knowledge and attitudes of men regarding reproductive health in the use of contraception. There are many factors that influence men to take part in the Family Planning (Keluarga Berencana/ KB) program, namely factors from the client's side or the man himself (knowledge, men's attitudes and desired needs), environmental factors, namely family support, especially wife support, social and cultural, limited information. and access to male family planning services, and limitations in types of male contraception. The puprose of this literature review is to analyze various influencing factors on the use of Family Planning methods among men in Indonesia. Method: The design of this is a literature review. The article used is a cross-sectional research article with husband/male respondents. The inclusion criteria for selected articles were men who used family planning programs as well as research with primary and regional data in Indonesia. Results: The results showed that knowledge, age at marriage, and children's values ​​have a significant relationship with men's participation in family planning programs. Knowledge about family planning has a 2.037 times chance of participating, married age ≥ 25 years has a 0.535 times chance of participating, children with sufficient grades (≤ 2) have a 1.821 times chance of participating. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is that knowledge is the dominant factor in the influence of the use of Family Planning (KB) methods.

Abstract

Adolescent-friendly Health Services (PKPR’s Nutrition service) are intended to eliminate adolescent malnutrition, including anemia. However, the effect of health program utilization on adolescent anemia has rarely been studied. This study intends to examine the prevalence of anemia, the relation of social and behavioral factors, and the use of PKPR’s nutrition service with the anemia status of adolescent girls in Surakarta. A school-based cross-sectional design was conducted at a senior high school in Surakarta. Samples were 275 female students in grades 10 and 11 who had experienced menstruation. Multiple regression analysis is deployed to model the factors associated with anemia. The prevalence of anemia in female students was 37.82%. The employment status of the father and mother is associated with the anemia status of adolescents. Other factors, such as parent education, family affluence scale, behavior factors, parent support, knowledge, attitude, perception, and self-efficacy, were not associated with anemia status. PKPR’s nutrition service utilization did not correlate with adolescents' anemia status. PKPR’s nutrition service has not yet had an impactful outcome in reducing the frequency of anemia. Further research is needed to evaluate its implementation and impact on adolescent health outcomes.

Abstract

Adolescent health problems such as stunting, attempted suicide, and tobacco use in Indonesia require attention. To address these challenges, the School Health Unit Program, a school-based health initiative, aims to improve student health and academic achievement. This study examined the relationship between human resources, teachers’ knowledge, facilities and infrastructure, financial resources, and the planning process for implementing the School Health Unit Program in junior high schools in Boyolali District, Indonesia. A cross-sectional design was utilized, involving 50 junior high school teachers responsible for the School Health Unit as respondents, with data collected through structured questionnaires. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that financial resources (p-value = 0.001; Exp(B) = 12.93; CI = 2.878–58.060) and teachers’ knowledge (p-value = 0.028; Exp(B) = 6.67; CI = 1.230–36.117) were related to School Health Unit implementation. Schools with poor financial resources were over 12 times more likely, and teachers with a poor level of knowledge were approximately 6 times more likely, to implement the School Health Unit Program suboptimally. It is recommended that teachers participate in training programs, effective financial planning, and resource management to improve their capacity to manage the program more effectively.

Abstract

Pre-lacteal feeding is widely known as a distraction to exclusive breastfeeding, and the malpractice continues to be prevalent in Indonesia. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the potential determinants of pre-lacteal feeding among mothers of infants below 24 months. A sample of 6,455 mother-infant pairs from the 2017 Indonesia Demographic and Health Survey (IDHS) was used. Also, multivariate logistic regression was employed to identify factors associated with pre-lacteal feeding practice. In Indonesia, 44% of infants were introduced to solid/liquid feeds in their first three days of life. Infant formula was the most common pre-lacteal feed given, followed by any other milk, plain and sugar water, and honey. Early initiation of breastfeeding and living in an urban area was protective method against pre-lacteal feeding (AOR: 0.24; 95%CI: 0.21-0.28; AOR: 0.76; 95%CI: 0.65-0.90, respectively), while cesarean delivery acted as arisk factor (AOR: 1.36; 95%CI: 1.14-1.63). Meanwhile, gender role attitude, parity, perceived birth size, and household wealth index was also associated with pre-lacteal feeding. Overall, the percentage of mothers introducing pre-lacteal feeds was still high. The modifiable covariates associated with pre-lacteal feedings, such as early initiation of breastfeeding, parity, and birth size, were the major factors discouraging this practice.
