Abstract

This study was motivated by the low understanding of circle concepts among students at SMA Muhammadiyah Ahmad Dahlan Metro. Based on daily test results, the students’ average score was only 35%, far below the minimum achievement criterion of 75. This condition was attributed to the use of printed textbooks that were less engaging and did not clearly and systematically present problem-solving steps. In addition, mathematics instruction had not fully integrated Islamic values, although the school’s vision emphasizes Islamic character education. Therefore, this study aimed to develop an Android-based learning application using a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach oriented toward Islamic values. The development process employed the ADDIE model, consisting of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Data were collected through validation and practicality questionnaires validated by six experts: two material experts, two media experts, and two Islamic values experts. A practicality test involved 10 eleventh-grade students. The validation results reached 89%, categorized as highly valid, while practicality reached 87%, categorized as highly practical. The application was visually engaging, easy to use, and capable of integrating faith, morality, and discipline into mathematics learning.

Abstract

The focus of this research is to examine junior high school (Grade VII) students' ability to understand mathematical concepts when solving fraction problems, using a qualitative, descriptive design. The analysis focuses on three abilities: restating concepts, presenting concepts in different forms of mathematical representation, and applying concepts or algorithms to obtain solutions. The novelty of this study lies in combining tiered categorization (high, medium, low) with an in-depth qualitative description of each ability group, enabling identification of students' achievement characteristics on each indicator in greater detail than in previous similar studies. The research was conducted at a public junior high school in Metro City, based on pre-survey results showing a low completion rate among students in solving fraction problems. Six of the 26 students in Class VII A were selected through purposive sampling, taking into account variation in pre-survey scores to ensure proportional representation of the high-, medium-, and low-ability groups. Data were obtained through a written test on fraction material that mathematics teachers and lecturers had validated, then analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results place students' concept understanding in the medium category, with an average score of 52 and an average ability percentage of 61.1%. Students in the high group were able to meet all three indicators; the medium group was able to use mathematical representations and problem-solving algorithms, but was not yet consistent in restating concepts; while the low group had not shown achievement on any of the three indicators. These findings are specific to the research subjects and are not intended to be generalized broadly. This study provides a diagnostic picture of students' patterns of understanding of fraction concepts that can inform teachers in designing instruction that places greater emphasis on the meaning of concepts before students move on to related material, such as ratio and proportion, with the limitation that the subjects were drawn from a single school.

Abstract

Abstract This study is to detail the creation of Student Worksheets (LKPD) that incorporate Islamic principles into the System of Linear Equations in Two Variables (SPLDV) curriculum and are based on the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model. The ADDIE model is used in this study. Experts in materials, design, and Islamic principles participated in the product validation questionnaires used to gather data for the study, which was carried out at MTs Muhammadiyah Metro Lampung. Additionally, students were involved through the implementation of a product practicality questionnaire. Ten students worked in a small group to complete the practicality test. By following the ADDIE steps—analysis stage, which includes study of teaching materials and student characteristics—the research development's outcomes are PBL-based LKPD integrated with Islamic principles in SPLDV material. design stage, which encompasses learning planning; development stage, wherein instructional materials are adjusted in response to expert input: Following the implementation stage, which is conducted through small group trials, the evaluation stage is conducted at each level. Very valid percentages of 89.5%, 85.7%, and 88% were reached by material experts, design experts, and Islamic values experts, respectively, for their validation results. An evaluation of the educator response questionnaire's practicality yielded an 87.2% extremely practical proportion. Class VIII SPLDV material is legitimate and beneficial for the educational process, and LKPD was founded with an integrated PBL learning model with Islamic principles based on the research findings.
