Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the effect of pH on the adsorption of micronu- trients of Ca 2+  and K . by silica from lapindo mud. Data were collected by the adsorption experiments, on which 3 grams of silica separated from Lapindo mudwere dissolved in 300 mL of 0.0001 or 0.001 M Ca + 2+ or K ., and stirred for 2 hours. The pH of suspension was varied and left for equilibrate for 2 hours, and a sample was taken and measured for free concentration of K + + .cation  using Flame Atomic Emission Spectroscopy and of Ca  using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS). The pH ranges were from 3 to 10. Temperature o  30 C and contact time of 2 hours were maintained. The research showed that both cations were adsorbed in sigmoid curve, increased with increasing pH values. In entire ranges of observed pH, the percentage of cations adsorbed by silica was not different signifi cantly. The adsorbent of silica formed silanol (SiOH) in water. The –OH groups of silica were protonated forming SiOH o at lower pH and deprotonated forming SiO¯ at higher pH. Wether Ca 2+  or K + 2 + . cations were bound to silica surfacesvia cation exchange reactions, on which Ca2+ or K + . exchanged H of SiOH using one charge of the cations, forming [SiO(CaO)] for Ca 2+ , and [SiO-K] for K

Abstract

This research was conducted to analyze the effect of using the media of chemondro and hybrid video conferences in the teaching-learning toward students’ self-efficacy and students’ achievement on the subject of solubility and solubility product. The instruments of this research are the questionnaire and solubility and solubility product test. Thus, the research was set as quasi-experiment research using post-test only and non-equivalent control group design. By purposive sampling technique, the samples from 6 classes composed of 2 public senior high schools were selected. The classes were divided into 2 of hybrid learning with video conference and chemondro game (A), 2 classes of hybrid learning with video conference (B), and 2 classes of chemondro game (C). The corresponding data were collected on the basis of a self-efficacy learning questionnaire and a multiple-choice posttest of students' achievement in the subject of solubility and solubility product. The data were then tested by Manova. The results show that there was a significant difference in students’ self-efficacy and students’ chemistry cognitive achievement among the three classes, A, B, and C.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the profile of students' self-efficacy in the use of virtual laboratory in electrochemistry class. It is quantitative descriptive research. The total subject of this research was 90 students from grade 12th public senior high school. Three classes were selected randomly to determine the sample: C class using conventional laboratory, E-1 class using virtual laboratories as a substitute, and E-2 class using both a virtual laboratory as a supplement. The instrument was a self-efficacy questionnaire that consisted of 22 items. The data were analyzed and categorized into 5 rating categories: very high, high, fair, low, and very low. The results showed that the profile of students' self-efficacy in the E2-class was highest than in 2 other classes.

Abstract

Students’ competencies in the 21st century can be achieved if the students have various skills and scientific attitudes. Scientific Attitude will affect students' minds or memories and actions that require in making decisions and problem-solving in the future. So, the aim of this study was to describe the profile of students' scientific attitudes through Practicum Activities Using Student E-Worksheet Based Chemicals at Home. This research used a descriptive quantitative method. The research was conducted in Budi Mulia Dua senior high school, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, at the last of the first semester of the academic year 2021/2022. The observation involved 15 of tenth-grade students as the participant. The data was collected using an observation sheet which was developed based on students' scientific attitude aspects. The instrument has been validated by expert learning lecturers so that it is feasible to use. The data obtained from the students were analyzed descriptively and quantitatively. The results of students’ scientific attitudes were in the good category ie. 75.8%. Therefore, teachers need to innovate the learning process in order to improve students' scientific attitudes

Abstract

Research has been carried out on the development of instruments for science communication skills as part of 21st Century skills at the higher education level. The instrument was developed from indicators of communication skills, namely understanding the key ideas of other people's utterances and presenting or reading data in the form of tables or graphs. The development carried out with the Borg and Gall model produces valid and reliable instruments. The test subjects were 94 students who were selected by cluster sampling. The tests carried out included construct validation tests, empirical validation tests, and testing the use of instruments to measure science communication skills. The results of construct validation show that the instrument is considered very good and suitable for use. The results of empirical validation show that the instrument is valid and reliable so that it can be used. The trial results show that the instrument for the assessment of the results of this development can be used to measure science communication skills.

Abstract

This study's main objective is to explore chemistry students' attitudes towards the learning policies implemented during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Method: This study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional survey method. Respondents were 201 students majoring in chemistry at a university in Surabaya, Indonesia. The data collection instrument was a questionnaire developed during the research and validated through a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) test. Data analysis used is descriptive statistics and two-way ANOVA test to interpret differences in student perspectives based on two characteristics. Findings: 18 of the 21 questionnaire items fall into the valid and reliable category with a loading factor value greater than 0.50. From the two characteristics of the respondents who were analyzed through the two-way ANOVA test, there were significant differences in student perspectives on the implementation of learning based on learning intensity with significance levels of 0.031. Overall, 52% of students choose blended learning, 46% face-to-face, and 2% online learning. Implications for Research and Practice: Currently, blended learning is still relevant for chemistry students in Indonesia. With notes, face-to-face learning is carried out more than virtual (online) learning, and practical learning in the laboratory is carried out face-to-face in full.

Abstract

A big challenge for educators in carrying out learning that has undergone drastic changes. During the pandemic, learning activities carried out online were again carried out offline. This learning adaptation has a considerable impact on learning outcomes. Students have difficulty understanding chemical concepts and are passive in giving opinions in learning so it is difficult to integrate knowledge. During online learning activities, student learning resources are still focused on abstract concepts and books provided. The purpose of this study was to improve students' argumentation skills on chemistry in interpreting the knowledge obtained with the guided inquiry learning model. This type of research is a descriptive research with a quantitative approach. Data collection techniques used observation, argumentation ability tests, and documentation. The data obtained were analyzed using quantitative analysis techniques. Based on the results of the study, it showed that students were able to make claims but had difficulty presenting data and proving evidence. Students' initial argumentation abilities can be a reference for educators to determine future learning activities, with the hope that learning is designed not only to focus on achieving conceptual understanding but to develop students' argumentation abilities.
