Abstract

Chemical equilibrium is considered abstract so it requires visualization by analogy through electronic modules combined with interactive multimedia teaching materials. This study aims to examine the influence of a guided discovery learning-based e-module on chemical equilibrium on the development of conceptual understanding and self-directed learning among 11th grade science students enrolled in the control and experimental groups. The research framework employed in this study follows a research and development (R&D) model. The participants were selected using the cluster random sampling technique. The e-module, developed based on GDL principles, was administered to 72 science 11th grade students through a quasi-experimental design involving a posttest-only control group. The research employed conceptual understanding test of chemical equilibrium and a self-directed learning questionnaire as data collection instruments. The disparities in conceptual understanding and self-directed learning between the control and experimental groups were assessed using the MANOVA (Hotteling's trace) test. There is a significant difference in both the overall and individual abilities of conceptual understanding and learning independence between students who used electronic modules based on GDL and those who did not, as indicated by simultaneous significance levels of 0.001 and individual significance levels of 0.009 and 0.004, all of which are smaller than 0.05.

Abstract

Technological advances require education to continuously adapt, including through the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka, which emphasizes student-centered learning. This study aimed to describe the attitudes and interests in learning chemistry among junior high school students in Bengkalis Regency and to analyze gender-based differences during the Kurikulum Merdeka era. This quantitative research used a descriptive survey approach with a stratified random sampling technique involving seventh- and eighth-grade students from nine public junior high schools. A Likert-scale questionnaire measured four attitude indicators (perceived importance of chemistry, learning comfort, perceived difficulty, and usefulness of chemistry) and four interest indicators (attention, interest, enjoyment, and active involvement). The results showed that students’ attitudes toward learning chemistry were positive (73.99%), with the highest mean score (4.19) on the usefulness of chemistry indicator. Interest in learning chemistry was also positive (M = 3.92; 74.98%). A t-test indicated no significant gender differences in attitudes (p = 0.115 > 0.05) or interest (p = 0.677 > 0.05). These findings highlight the positive role of the Kurikulum Merdeka in fostering equitable learning experiences and support Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education by promoting inclusive, student-centered learning that enhances scientific literacy and lifelong learning skills.

Abstract

The virtual laboratory for electrochemistry materials has been developed. The characteristic of this virtual chemistry laboratory associated with the effect on students’ achievement was analyzed. Thus this type of research was research and development by using ADDIE development model. In the implementation, the phase of the product was the quasi experimental method with a post-test only design. Classes used for this study were 3 classes, first-class using traditional laboratory, a second class using only virtual laboratory, and the third class using traditional laboratory and virtual laboratory as a supplement. All three classes were performed by the same teacher and the learning time. The instrument used to see the effect of the virtual laboratory was a test instrument. While the instrument used to assess the quality of the media was a questionnaire assessment. The results of this study were a developed virtual laboratory that can be operated via the web on smartphones and computers. In addition, the results of the assessment by the chemistry teachers stated that the virtual laboratory was in good quality and in classroom studies, the third and first classes showed significant differences. In the future research virtual laboratory as a supplement in other subject, matters can be developed.

Abstract

This research explores the integration of Islamic values in chemistry education, particularly focusing on stoichiometry. Stoichiometry, a key concept in chemistry that emphasizes balance and proportionality, is aligned with the principles of justice and balance as highlighted in the Qur'an. The study aims to analyze how these scientific principles reflect Qur'anic values and how they can be applied in educational settings. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, utilizing library research to gather data from chemical literature and Qur'anic commentaries. The research found significant parallels between the laws of stoichiometry and the Qur'anic teachings on balance, precision, and order in creation. Verses such as Surah Ar-Rahman (55:7-9) emphasize maintaining balance, which mirrors the necessity of balance in chemical reactions. The study concludes that integrating these values into chemistry education can provide a holistic understanding of science, reinforcing both religious and scientific perspectives.

Abstract

Project-based learning (PjBL) is an innovative educational approach that integrates real-world contexts to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes, particularly in chemistry education. This systematic review examines the effectiveness of PjBL in teaching organic compound separation techniques, a critical area in both academic and industrial applications. Based on a synthesis of 10 selected studies from the last five years, the review highlights the impact of PjBL on improving student engagement, conceptual understanding, and laboratory competencies. Students involved in PjBL activities showed greater motivation and deeper conceptual learning, particularly in mastering complex techniques such as chromatography and distillation. Furthermore, PjBL enhanced collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving through active participation in hands-on tasks. Despite these benefits, several challenges were identified, including limited resources, time constraints, and insufficient teacher training. This review offers strategic recommendations, including the development of low-cost resources and the expansion of professional development programs. Future research should investigate the long-term effects of PjBL on academic achievement and career readiness, especially within STEM education contexts
