Abstract

Students’ competencies in the 21st century can be achieved if the students have various skills and scientific attitudes. Scientific Attitude will affect students' minds or memories and actions that require in making decisions and problem-solving in the future. So, the aim of this study was to describe the profile of students' scientific attitudes through Practicum Activities Using Student E-Worksheet Based Chemicals at Home. This research used a descriptive quantitative method. The research was conducted in Budi Mulia Dua senior high school, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, at the last of the first semester of the academic year 2021/2022. The observation involved 15 of tenth-grade students as the participant. The data was collected using an observation sheet which was developed based on students' scientific attitude aspects. The instrument has been validated by expert learning lecturers so that it is feasible to use. The data obtained from the students were analyzed descriptively and quantitatively. The results of students’ scientific attitudes were in the good category ie. 75.8%. Therefore, teachers need to innovate the learning process in order to improve students' scientific attitudes

Abstract

Research has been carried out on the development of instruments for science communication skills as part of 21st Century skills at the higher education level. The instrument was developed from indicators of communication skills, namely understanding the key ideas of other people's utterances and presenting or reading data in the form of tables or graphs. The development carried out with the Borg and Gall model produces valid and reliable instruments. The test subjects were 94 students who were selected by cluster sampling. The tests carried out included construct validation tests, empirical validation tests, and testing the use of instruments to measure science communication skills. The results of construct validation show that the instrument is considered very good and suitable for use. The results of empirical validation show that the instrument is valid and reliable so that it can be used. The trial results show that the instrument for the assessment of the results of this development can be used to measure science communication skills.

Abstract

This study's main objective is to explore chemistry students' attitudes towards the learning policies implemented during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Method: This study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional survey method. Respondents were 201 students majoring in chemistry at a university in Surabaya, Indonesia. The data collection instrument was a questionnaire developed during the research and validated through a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) test. Data analysis used is descriptive statistics and two-way ANOVA test to interpret differences in student perspectives based on two characteristics. Findings: 18 of the 21 questionnaire items fall into the valid and reliable category with a loading factor value greater than 0.50. From the two characteristics of the respondents who were analyzed through the two-way ANOVA test, there were significant differences in student perspectives on the implementation of learning based on learning intensity with significance levels of 0.031. Overall, 52% of students choose blended learning, 46% face-to-face, and 2% online learning. Implications for Research and Practice: Currently, blended learning is still relevant for chemistry students in Indonesia. With notes, face-to-face learning is carried out more than virtual (online) learning, and practical learning in the laboratory is carried out face-to-face in full.

Abstract

A big challenge for educators in carrying out learning that has undergone drastic changes. During the pandemic, learning activities carried out online were again carried out offline. This learning adaptation has a considerable impact on learning outcomes. Students have difficulty understanding chemical concepts and are passive in giving opinions in learning so it is difficult to integrate knowledge. During online learning activities, student learning resources are still focused on abstract concepts and books provided. The purpose of this study was to improve students' argumentation skills on chemistry in interpreting the knowledge obtained with the guided inquiry learning model. This type of research is a descriptive research with a quantitative approach. Data collection techniques used observation, argumentation ability tests, and documentation. The data obtained were analyzed using quantitative analysis techniques. Based on the results of the study, it showed that students were able to make claims but had difficulty presenting data and proving evidence. Students' initial argumentation abilities can be a reference for educators to determine future learning activities, with the hope that learning is designed not only to focus on achieving conceptual understanding but to develop students' argumentation abilities.

Abstract

Indonesian government supported the integration of local wisdom into education. It was proven by the existence of the Act No. 20/2003 on National Education System and the Regulation of the minister of Education and Culture No. 81A/2013. Local wisdoms of Purworejo could be matched into chemistry learning. This research was to measure the difference of learning discipline at SMAN 1 Purworejo between students who learnt chemistry by integrating local wisdom-based scientific approach and those who were without the integration of local wisdom. There were a control class and treatment class in this study. Before getting the treatments, the students fulfilled the questionnaire as the prior learning discipline. The treatments experienced by the students were chemistry experiment, presentation, essay writing, and the discussion in traditional organization on chemistry learning. After joining the treatments, the students fulfilled the final questionnaire. Data were analyzed by using Independent Sample t-Test of SPSS from which learning discipline of students at the treatment class was significantly different from those who were at the control class (Sig.p 0.000). This research inferred that learning discipline of students who studied by the use of local wisdom -based scientific approach was significantly different from that were without the integration of local wisdom.

Abstract

This research aims to create an instrument that can measure students' learning independence by measuring the level of validity and reliability. The instrument is a questionnaire for student learning independence consisting of 41 statements (20 positive statements and 21 negative statements) with responses based on a Likert scale score of 1 to 5. The research location for the empirical test of learning independence was at SMAN 1 Kalasan class XII MIPA in 3 classes. The number of empirical trial participants was 99 students. The results of the empirical test of the learning independence questionnaire instrument were then analyzed using the Winstep Rasch model program. The quality of the instrument can be determined from the unidimensional assumption test, the suitability test of the statement items to the Rasch model (item fit), and the bias of the statement items with the help of the Winstep program. The results obtained were that in the validity calculation there was 1 invalid statement out of 41 existing statements, namely the statement "I try to study as best as possible to achieve good performance" on the responsibility indicator. The reliability of the learning independence questionnaire instrument regarding the use of electronic modules is 0.93 and is in the very high category, so it can be concluded that the other 40 statements are declared valid and variable so that they can be used as instruments in measuring learning independence regarding the use of electronic modules.

Abstract

Education requires a learning model that involves technological developments to improve students' scientific attitudes and cognitive learning outcomes. One learning model that can be used to improve students' scientific attitudes and cognitive learning outcomes is the Self Organized Learning Environment (SOLE). This research aims to test whether there is an influence of the SOLE learning model on students' scientific attitudes and cognitive learning outcomes as well as the number of effective contributions made by the SOLE learning model on students' scientific attitudes and cognitive learning outcomes. This research is a quasi-experimental research. The sample in this research were students from two classes of XI Mipa at SMAN 2 Yogyakarta. The sampling technique in this research used cluster random sampling. Data collection techniques were carried out using questionnaires and observation sheets on students' scientific attitudes and test questions. The data analysis technique used is the Manova test and descriptive analysis. Based on the research results, the sig value was obtained. 0.00 < 0.005, which means that there is an influence of the SOLE learning model on students' scientific attitudes and cognitive learning outcomes with an effective contribution of 11.6% in the medium category. Meanwhile, the contribution for each variable, namely scientific attitudes, was 4.6% in the small category and cognitive learning outcomes were 7.7% in the small category.
