Abstract

This research aims to analyze the sustainability of two types of fishery pond polyculture of milkfish-tiger shrimp with and without mangrove integration on small-scale farms. Sustainability dimensions considered in this research included are the ecology, economy, social-culture, technology-infrastructure, and laws-institutions as the dimensions analyzed.  The performance of each aspect was analyzed by using Multi-dimensional scaling (Rapfish) and leverage analysis. The result shows that the current multidimensional sustainability status  of  the fishery  pond   polyculture  both  with  and  without  mangrove  integration was less sustainable  (sustainability index of 44.98 and 36.18 respectively). The result of leverage analysis indicates that out of 73 attributes, there were 16 and 23 sensitive attributes respectively that affect the sustainability of polyculture fishpond with and without mangrove integration. These attributes should be managed immediately in order to improve the sustainability index of fishery pond polyculture, this includes organic pesticides application, source of capital, the availability of seeds of milkfish and tiger shrimp, market location, selling price, waste treatment technology, availability of agribusiness facilities and infrastructure, aquaculture technology, information technology, standardizing the quality of fishery products, availability of micro finance institution and others.

Abstract

Finding of previous studies shows that Sumatera Economic Corridor is categorized as the highest income inequality. The Indonesian goverment enacts MP3EI (Master Plan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesia Economic Development) program to promote equitable development where each economic corridor owns strategic economic sector. The objective of this study is to analyze the contribution of agricultural sector on income inequality in Sumatera Economic Corridor (SEC) using a weighted coefficient of variation. We use secondary time series data of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), number of population, and per capita income of a time range between 2002 and 2013. Data analysis shows that agricultural sector has the least contribution on income inequality. Consequently, goverment policy should be focusing on the development of agricultural sector in Sumatera Economic Corridor

Abstract

This study assessed the performance of 32 village unit co-operatives (KUD) in Yogyakarta Special Region during 2011 to 2012. The efficiency level of the KUD were evaluated by employing the data envelopment analysis and multiple regression analysis using panel data to determine the factors affecting efficiency level. Efficiency analysis was decomposed into three dimensions to explore possible sources of inefficiency. According to Marwa and Aziakpono (2016), the first dimension was technical efficiency, which explored the overall effectiveness of transforming the productive inputs into desired outputs compared to the data-driven frontier of best practice. The second dimension was pure technical efficiency, which captured managerial efficiency in the intermediation process. The third dimension was scale efficiency, which explored whether KUD were operating in an optimal scale of operation or not. The results found that the average scores are 64%, 92%, and 68% for technical, pure technical, and scale efficiency respectively in 2011, while in 2012 the average scores are 57%, 94%, and 60% for technical, pure technical, and scale efficiency. Factors having significantly positive impact on several measures of efficiency are incentive and dummy variables (agriculture inputs and hand tractor). Accounts receivable only has positive relationship to pure technical efficiency. On the other hand, rice milling unit and electricity services have negative impact with several measures of efficiency.

Abstract

There are three patterns of smallholder oil palm plantation in North Mamuju regency, ie plasma, IGA (Income Generating Activity), and mandiri (independent). Independent smallholder plantations are plantations managed by the community themselves without the involvement of others. While the partnership patterns can be divided into plasma and IGA. The partnership is a form of fostering of smallholders plantations by large private plantation in this area. This study aims to determine the amount of oil palm production on smallholder plantations and the factors that affect. This research was conducted in North Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi Province which has the widest smallholder oil palm plantation in Sulawesi Island with various pattern. Four villages in two sub-districts were chosen purposively consideration with having three patterns of smallholder plantations. Farmer samples were taken using the snowball method after stratification of the pattern was carried out. Data analysis was performed with Cobb-Doulas function model in the normalized logarithm, using Eviews 6 software. These findings are the average production of 56,840 kg, with productivity of 20,300 kg/ha. Input of land area, NPK fertilizer, age of oil palm crops, outside family labor, frequency of estate sanitation and distance of estate to river is the determinant input to production. Input land area is found as the most elastic input. However, land use for oil palm plantations should still refer to existing legislation

Abstract

Land ownership, technical and environmental efficiency are interrelated aspects one another which influences the sustainability of farming. This study aims to estimate the impact of land ownership on the technical and environmental efficiency of wetland rice farming in the Rokan Hulu Regency. Data obtained from interviews with 100 farm households, and analyzed using the translog stochastic frontier production function estimated by the maximum likelihood method. This production function includes conventional and detrimental input (Nitrogen). The results showed that the average technical efficiency of farming was 84.8%. Meaning that farmers can increase their technical efficiency by 15.2%. While the average of environmental efficiency is 23.7%. It is recommended to farmers to reduce their detrimental inputs by 76.3%. The technical efficiency of landowners was lower than the tenant or sharing farmers. Otherwise, the environmental efficiency of landowners higher than tenant or sharing farmers.
