Abstract

Pesticide exposure is one of the most significant risks farmers faces, especially regarding respiratory health. Lack of understanding about using personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work procedures makes farmers vulnerable to respiratory problems. This study aims to identify the impact of pesticide exposure on farmers' respiratory health from an agronursing perspective. This research is a literature review study that uses a quantitative descriptive approach. The sample was taken from 10 articles from PubMed, Science Direct, and Semantic Scholar, which were considered most relevant. The study showed pesticide exposure is significantly associated with increased respiratory disorders such as asthma, chronic cough, and decreased lung function. Risk factors include frequency of spraying, type of pesticide, and lack of PPE use. The agronursing approach is important in the prevention and management of health impacts due to pesticides. The role of nurses as educators, behavior change facilitators, and intervention developers is essential to increase farmers' awareness and health protection.

Abstract

The use of pesticides in agriculture increases crop yields, but poses health risks to farmers, especially without PPE. Global data shows a high rate of pesticide poisoning, especially in developing countries. In Indonesia, farmers' awareness and compliance with the use of PPE are still low due to factors related to education, training, and risk perception. This study aims to analyze the level of awareness among farmers regarding the use of PPE and the factors that influence their occupational safety practices when using pesticides. This study employed a literature review method, searching articles from three electronic databases: PubMed, ScienceDirect, and SpringerLink. The selection of articles was carried out in stages based on the keywords used "farmers" OR "agricultural workers" AND "awareness" OR "knowledge" OR "perception" AND "personal protective equipment" OR "PPE" AND "use" OR "utilization" OR "practice" AND "analysis" OR "study" OR "assessment", until 12 primary articles were analyzed in depth. The results show that the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) remains relatively low and inconsistent, despite most individuals having received training and sufficient knowledge. There is a gap between knowledge and practice of PPE use among tobacco farmers, which is influenced by various social and structural factors. Educational interventions based on behavioral models, cross-sectoral involvement, and the provision of adequate PPE are essential to improve farmers' work safety sustainably.

Abstract

Pesticide exposure among farmers poses significant health risks globally; however, comprehensive recent evidence on the role of nursing in mitigating these hazards remains underexplored. This systematic review aims to synthesize empirical findings from 2024 to 2025 on the health impacts of pesticide exposure in farming populations and discusses implications for agronursing practice. Following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, a systematic search was conducted across Scopus, PubMed, and ProQuest using the keywords "pesticide," "farmer," and "nursing." From an initial pool of 2,757 records, 10 original research articles published between 2024 and 2025 met the inclusion criteria: full-text, English-language, open-access, peer-reviewed research articles with ethical clearance, an active DOI, and no study design restrictions beyond excluding non-original works. The 10 included studies were conducted in Thailand, Spain, Greece, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Türkiye, and India. These studies revealed consistent associations between pesticide exposure and adverse health outcomes, including sleep disorders, depression, suicide attempts, oxidative stress, DNA damage, elevated inflammatory markers, and increased stroke risk biomarkers. Behavioral assessments indicated widespread deficiencies in safe pesticide handling and low risk perception. Importantly, nurse-led interventions demonstrated effectiveness in improving occupational health service delivery and farmer knowledge. Pesticide exposure continues to pose a risk to farmers' health across diverse global settings. Agronursing emerges as a vital interdisciplinary approach to address this challenge through education, early detection, advocacy, and community-based prevention. Integrating agronursing competencies into primary healthcare and nursing curricula is crucial for protecting agricultural workers and promoting sustainable rural health.

Abstract

Climate change increasingly affects agricultural systems and the health of farmers who depend directly on environmental conditions. This study aimed to systematically review recent evidence on the impacts of climate change on farmers’ health and its implications for agronursing. A systematic review was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines using three databases: Scopus, PubMed, and ProQuest. Articles published between 2025 and 2026 that met predefined inclusion criteria were selected, and their methodological quality was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute critical appraisal tools. The search identified 6,262 records, and 10 studies met the eligibility criteria for final analysis. The findings indicate that climate change affects farmers’ health through multiple pathways, including heat stress, food insecurity, environmental exposure, and psychological distress. Several studies also highlight the importance of knowledge, coping strategies, and community adaptation in improving farmers’ resilience. Climate change poses significant challenges to farmers' health. Agronursing plays an important role in promoting occupational and mental health, and in supporting community-based adaptation strategies to improve the well-being of farming communities.

Abstract

Agricultural occupational hazards pose escalating threats to farming populations globally, yet fragmented evidence limits cohesive clinical and policy responses. This systematic review synthesizes contemporary research to inform an integrated agronursing framework addressing occupational health and safety among farmers. Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, we searched Scopus, PubMed, and ProQuest for English-language, open-access studies published between 2022 and 2026. Ten studies spanning eight countries underwent a Joanna Briggs Institute critical appraisal and narrative synthesis due to methodological heterogeneity. Results indicate strong positive correlations between hazard knowledge and safety behaviors, though high-risk practices persist, including pesticide overconcentration (74.6%) and inconsistent use of personal protective equipment. Panel regression analysis revealed a monotonic escalation in severe agricultural trauma above 20°C, increasing 123% beyond 30°C. Multicomponent educational interventions demonstrated significant short-term improvements in sun safety knowledge and protective behaviors. At the same time, qualitative evidence highlighted structural determinants, piece-rate compensation, infrastructure deficits, and cultural norms that independently mediate risk exposure. Media analyses further revealed tendencies to individualize injury responsibility, obscuring upstream regulatory drivers. These findings confirm that knowledge acquisition alone cannot sustain behavioral change without concurrent environmental and policy-level interventions. Consequently, agronursing practice must evolve from episodic clinical care toward proactive, ecologically grounded models integrating standardized psychosocial screening, climate-responsive surveillance, and advocacy for equitable safety protocols. This framework equips rural health systems with evidence-based strategies to implement contextually tailored interventions, ultimately safeguarding farmer wellbeing and strengthening global agricultural resilience.

Abstract

Verbal violence that occurs over a prolonged period leads adolescents to have difficulty regulating their emotions. As a result of experiencing repeated verbal violence and having low emotional regulation abilities, adolescents may replicate their experiences, become apathetic or aggressive, and exhibit delinquent behaviors. This study aims to determine the relationship between parental verbal violence and emotional regulation levels in adolescents. This research utilizes a quantitative correlational study with a cross-sectional survey design approach. The sample consisted of 172 respondents, selected through non-probability sampling, specifically purposive sampling. The research instruments were measured using the parental verbal violence questionnaire and the emotional regulation level questionnaire. Bivariate analysis was conducted using Kendall's Tau-b test. The results indicated that verbal violence against adolescents was in the moderate category as many as 107 respondents (62.2%), and emotional regulation levels in adolescents were also in the moderate category as many as 87 respondents (50.6%). The test yielded a p-value of 0.000 and a correlation coefficient of -0.557. These findings demonstrate a significant relationship between parental verbal violence and emotional regulation levels. The strength of the relationship is categorized as strong and negative in direction, meaning that as verbal violence experienced by adolescents increases, their level of emotional regulation decreases. Education regarding the impact of verbal violence needs to be provided to parents and adolescents using interesting media, and involving the role of accompanying teachers as facilitators.

Abstract

Background: Caring for patients with schizophrenia is a significant challenge for caregivers. The responsibility of caring for patients with schizophrenia creates its own pressures and burdens for caregivers, requiring resilience to adapt to these challenges. In addition, self-efficacy is essential for caregivers to maintain confidence and a positive outlook regarding their ability to provide care. Purpose: This study aims to analyze the relationship between self-efficacy and resilience among caregivers of patients with schizophrenia in the Sumbersari District of Jember. Methods: This research uses a cross-sectional correlational design. The population includes 177 caregivers of schizophrenia patients in the Sumbersari District, Jember. A non-probability purposive sampling technique was used, resulting in a total of 123 respondents. The research instruments used were the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES) and the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), and data were analyzed using Kendall’s Tau-C test. Results: Most caregivers had low self-efficacy (64, 52%) and moderate resilience (116, 94.3%). The analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between self-efficacy and resilience, with a weak strength (p = 0.001; r = 0.202). This indicates that higher self-efficacy is associated with greater resilience. Conclusions: Caregivers with high self-efficacy tend to be more confident, optimistic, and capable of handling stress while caring for patients with schizophrenia, thus demonstrating stronger resilience in fulfilling their roles. In contrast, caregivers with low self-efficacy may feel less capable of managing caregiving responsibilities, making them more susceptible to psychological stress. It is recommended that interventions prioritize enhancing caregivers’ self-efficacy, as this may improve resilience.
