Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of physical environmental factors (clean water facilities, latrine conditions, SPAL conditions, type of house floor, household waste management), economic factors (family income) and social environmental factors (nail hygiene, use of footwear, washing habits hands with soap, bowel habits) against helminthiasis in elementary school students in Seberang Tembilahan Village, Indragiri Hilir Regency. The research location was conducted in Seberang Tembilahan Sub-District, Indragiri Hilir Regency in January to February 2020. The study used a survey method. The analytical method used is univariate analysis, bivariate analysis with Chi Square (Fisher) and multivariate analysis with logistic regression. The results of the study of 72 elementary school students in 4 elementary schools who were examined by laboratory feces, found positive results of worm infestation of 23.61% or 17 students. The final results of the model test showed that although the clean water facilities and toilet conditions were not significant, the two variables influenced each other, it was possible that there was an interaction between the two variables in influencing the incidence of helminthiasis in elementary school students. The variable that most affected the incidence of helminthiasis in elementary school students was the latrine condition with adjusted OR of 4.01 so that respondents whose conditions did not meet the requirements were 4.01 times more likely to experience helminthiasis compared to conditions that were eligible after being controlled by other variables. Simultaneously the two variables (clean water facilities and latrine conditions) can explain the variation of helminthiasis in elementary students by 9.9%.

Abstract

Even in the setting of schools, open burning of rubbish is still frequently practiced. This is in conflict with the government's program connected to the Pollution Control Strategic Plan (2020–2024), which has the goal of lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and the waste management policy (Law No. 18 of 2008). The justification is that the waste cannot be carried to the TPS or TPA, preventing it from building up and having negative effects like pollution. Lack of awareness, bad habits, and the idea that burning trash is simple and inexpensive are the causes. This issue also exists in SMPN 1 and SMPN 5, Bangko Pusako District, where waste is still managed conventionally by burning it all together without sorting it (visually, 40% of the waste is plastic). The quantity of waste in the two schools, as well as the timetable for its transfer to the disposal/burning site, have not been under control. Because the school has not demonstrated any sort of effective waste management, this requirement makes it more difficult for it to meet the target date for applying for SMP with the Adiwiyata predicate (in 2022). It is known from interviews and the findings of research questionnaires that the school is well-versed in the processes and effects of waste management (including plastic waste). Due to the limited infrastructure, expense, time, and governing laws, they have not been able to participate more. Through an educational approach to improving management conditions regarding the nature of the school as an educational area, and by empowering students as the main component of the school, an optimization of plastic waste management strategies at SMPN 1 and SMPN 5 Bangko Pusako was carried out in this study. Understanding is imparted by repeated verbal socialization, inclusion in instructional materials, use as an example in school life, as well as the creation of policies that have been unanimously agreed upon. Each part of the school is expected to reduce the amount of plastic trash produced, sort waste into its appropriate categories before disposal, reuse waste whenever possible to keep it out of the environment's rubbish heaps, and refrain from burning waste. Due to the majority of the debris being given to scavengers and stacked up, the results indicated a decrease in the volume of waste produced and the frequency of burning. The trash's contents may appear more appropriately for each type. Some plastic products have been replaced with other recyclable materials by students and instructors. This method of controlling plastic waste in the school setting is anticipated to serve as a good model for other schools.

Abstract

There are many cases of behavioral and environmental-based diseases, one of which includes those occurring in Darel Hikmah Islamic boarding school. Scabies is a health problem that needs to be addressed, especially in environments with high population density, such as Islamic boarding schools. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between environmental factors, and behavior and to analyze the factors most at risk of scabies at Darel Hikmah Islamic Boarding School. The research was conducted in June-October 2020 at the Darel Hikmah Islamic Boarding School. Based on the results of research that has been done, it is known that the environmental factors associated with the incidence of scabies are lighting and humidity. Behavioral factors related to the incidence of scabies are the habit of washing hands with soap and the habit of changing clothes. The most risk factor for scabies in Islamic boarding schools is humidity. Scabies is a contagious disease caused by an infestation of the Sarcoptes scabiei mite and very often occurs in environments with poor sanitation and unsanitary and healthy living habits. Islamic boarding schools need to take precautions according to their level, namely primary, secondary and tertiary prevention, and regular medical examinations for students.

Abstract

The degree of public health is influenced by four factors, namely environment, behavior, health services, and heredity. Data from 2019 WHO Global Tuberculosis Report, Indonesia ranks third with the highest tuberculosis cases in the world. The purpose of this study was to analyze the sanitary conditions of the house environment (temperature, humidity, type of floor, ventilation, lighting), socio-culture (trust), and household contact against the incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis on Bengkalis Island. This research is an analytical study with a case-control design. This research was conducted on Bengkalis Island, namely in two sub-districts (Bengkalis District and Bantan District) and in the working area of Puskesmas Bengkalis, Puskesmas Pematang Duku, Puskesmas Selatbaru and Puskesmas Teluk Pambang. The data used are quantitative data sourced from observations, interviews, and questionnaires. The research sample was 80 people consisting of 40 cases and 40 controls. Data analysis was performed by multiple logistic regression tests. The results of the study concluded that the most dominant variable affecting the incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis was temperature with a p-value of 0.008. Confounding variables for tuberculosis incidence were ventilation, floor type, lighting, and confidence. The multivariate model formed is fit/fit for use. Based on the results of the calculation of the equation, it can be concluded that if a person has temperature risk factors, humidity risk factors, ventilation risk factors, floor type risk factors, lighting risk factors, trust risk factors, and household contact risk factors, then he will have a chance of suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis by 94 percent (with a probability value of 0.94).
