Abstract

This study aims to explore the agent-structure relationship in ritual communication of sacred grave pilgrimage in Dewi Sekardadu at Sidoarjo. The multi-site ethnographic research method compares ritual communications and folklore at all Dewi Sekardadu’s sacred graves that spread across four cities involving Sidoarjo, Gresik, Lamongan, and Banyuwangi. The key informants were doorkeepers, grave caretakers, community leaders, pilgrims, and businessmen. The data was collected through direct observation, participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis uses Anthony Gidden’s structuration theory, referring to how the dynamic agent-structure is elaborated with the cultural meaning through the study of ritual communication. This finding implicates the development Gidden’s structuration theory for studying cultural and ritual communication in fishermen’s communities. First, the competent agent in Kepetingan succeeded changing the stigma of Kepetingan from a criminal area to a religious area through developing folklore and Nyadran ritual communication practice and grave pilgrimages. The ruler of the ritual communication arena has significance and dominance in changing the rule of ritual from spiritual practice into Islam. Second, Giddens doesn’t assume the existence of clustering of agents in society, so he couldn’t predict the way of sociocultural development of the fishermen’s community. Third, the Nyadran ritual communication structure became an identity for indigenous fishermen, which created the society structure for the grave pilgrimage in Kepetingan by the urban fishermen from Gresik and Lamongan with the identity of cultural-Islamic ritual communication.

Abstract

Background: Di keluarga migran terutama jika istri yang menjadi pekerja migran, pengasuhan anak berpindah ke suami atau keluarga besar lainnya. Penelitian ini (melalui kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat) dilakukan di Desa Pandan Wangi, Kecamatan Jerowaru, Kabupaten Lombok Timur bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pola asuh keluarga migran terkait dengan kejadian stunting. Metode: Sebanyak 25 peserta yang terdiri dari ibu atau pengasuh anak balita bergabung dalam Focus Group Discussion (FGD) dan sebanyak 8 anak balita yang kemudian diukur secara antropometri untuk mengetahui status gizinya. Hasil: Hasil FGD muncul dua pernyataan utama yaitu: “ayam dan telur (protein) adalah untuk ayah” dan “makanan apapun tidak membuat mati”. Kesimpulan: Berdasarkan gambaran ini menunjukkan bahwa pola asuh berkaitan erat dengan budaya lokal yang menentukan pilihan makanan, pemberian makanan dan pembagian makanan yang pada tahap tertentu dapat berpengaruh terhadap kejadian stunting.

Abstract

Accurate determination of age is important in the legal process; when a person's age is unknown or must be authenticated, a forensic age identification method must be applied. One of such methods is to assess the epiphyseal closure on the bone through radiological examination. The main problem associated with the use of this method is the relevance of the reference population provided because epiphyseal closure is influenced by genetics and nutrition. This method needs data to represent each population. Radiological examination of elbow bones of 30 male patients aged 11-30 years and 18 female patients aged 14-28 years in Dr. Soetomo Hospital, Surabaya from January to April 2016 was carried out to determine the time of epiphyseal closure of the radius and ulna distal section. This was cross-sectional descriptive study. In conclusion, epiphyseal closure of proximal radius and ulna is complete at age 16 in males and 14 in females.
