Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study examines the effectiveness of the “Kabulok Komad Quartet Card” learning media in improving students’ learning interest and learning outcomes in science (IPAS) learning at the elementary school level. Methodology: A quantitative approach was employed using a quasi-experimental posttest non-equivalent control group design. The participants consisted of 22 fourth-grade students at Elementary School 01 Nambangan Lor, Madiun City, divided into an experimental group (n = 11) that utilized the Kabulok Komad Quartet Card learning media and a control group (n = 11) that used conventional textbook-based learning media. Data were collected using a learning interest questionnaire and a learning outcomes test, then analyzed through descriptive statistics and independent sample t-tests at a 0.05 significance level. Main Findings: The results reveal that students in the experimental group demonstrated significantly higher learning interest and learning outcomes compared to those in the control group. The t-test results indicate a significant difference in learning interest (t = 5.358, p < 0.05) and learning outcomes (t = 5.194, p < 0.05) between the two groups. These findings suggest that the Kabulok Komad Quartet Card learning media is effective in creating an engaging, contextual, and student-centered learning environment. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study provides empirical evidence that integrating local cultural content through game-based learning media can enhance both affective and cognitive aspects of learning in elementary science education.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: The rapid expansion of digital technology has fundamentally reshaped adolescents’ social interactions, raising concerns regarding the formation of social attitudes within educational settings. This study aims to examine the interplay between parenting styles and the intensity of social media use in shaping students’ social attitudes at the junior secondary school level. Methodology: Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with students and parents, systematic classroom observations, and documentation analysis, and were validated using data triangulation techniques. Main Findings: The findings reveal that authoritative (democratic) parenting, characterized by a balanced combination of behavioral demands and emotional responsiveness, plays a crucial role in fostering positive social attitudes, including self-regulation, empathy, and collaborative skills. Students raised within a democratic family climate demonstrate internalized moral reasoning, enabling them to maintain socially appropriate behavior without reliance on external supervision. In contrast, excessive social media use is associated with social withdrawal, fragmented attention, and diminished quality of face-to-face interactions in school contexts. High levels of digital engagement were found to displace opportunities for direct interpersonal communication, leading to what can be described as social atrophy and alienation. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study contributes to the literature by highlighting the protective function of authoritative parenting in mitigating the negative social effects of intensive digital media use. The results underscore that the family remains a critical socialization arena in the digital era, capable of strengthening adolescents’ social resilience when supported by effective communication and guided autonomy.

Abstract

The implementation of the Independent Curriculum (Kurikulum Merdeka) in Indonesia emphasizes flexibility, contextualization, and competency-based learning. However, many elementary school teachers, particularly in Madiun Regency, still rely on generic and non-digital materials that fail to represent local socio-ecological realities. This study aims to develop and validate digital teaching materials for Integrated Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) based on Madiun’s ethnoecology to strengthen the Pancasila Student Profile. Using the Research and Development (R&D) approach adapted from Gall, Gall, and Borg (2007), the research involved students from grades I and IV in selected elementary schools through purposive sampling. Data were collected using expert validation sheets, teacher and student response questionnaires, and pre-test and post-test assessments. The results show that the developed materials are valid, practical, and effective in improving learning outcomes and fostering critical thinking, environmental awareness, and cooperative values. Students demonstrated increased engagement and conceptual understanding when interacting with digital modules that featured local wisdom such as farming traditions, forest management, and water conservation. Theoretically, this study contributes to the framework of culturally responsive and technology-integrated science education. Its novelty lies in combining IPAS, ethnoecology, digital learning, and Pancasila-based pedagogy, a synthesis that has rarely been explored, especially in elementary education. The findings suggest that integrating local ecological knowledge with digital pedagogy can enhance contextual, meaningful, and character-oriented learning experiences aligned with the goals of the Independent Curriculum.
Decolonizing Zakat Discourse: Rethinking the Transformation from Consumptive to Productive Zakat through Ibn ‘Āshūr’s Maqāṣid al-Sharī‘ah in the Indonesian and Malaysian Contexts Intan Nurrachmi; Yudiyanto Tri Kurniawan; Mudrikatul Arafah; Muhammad Hanif; Taufiqurrachman; Azri Bhari

Abstract

This article critically analyzes the transformation of zakat (Islamic almsgiving) in Indonesia and Malaysia through the ethical framework of Ibn ‘Āshūr’s Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah (Higher Objectives of Islamic Law), focusing on the key values of public good (maṣlaḥah), social justice (ʿadl), economic freedom (ḥurriyyah), and solidarity (taʿāwun). The discourse on shifting zakat distribution from consumptive to productive models has become central in contemporary Islamic social finance, particularly in debates surrounding sustainable poverty alleviation and the empowerment of zakat beneficiaries (mustaḥik). While consumptive zakat is often criticized for fostering dependency, productive zakat offers the promise of long-term socio-economic inclusion. Employing a qualitative-comparative method, this study draws on both classical and contemporary literature as well as field data from official reports of zakat institutions in Indonesia and Malaysia. The findings reveal varied degrees of alignment with the four ethical foundations. The public good (maṣlaḥah) is partially realized through measurable improvements in beneficiary income and skill development, though these outcomes often remain localized and lack integration into broader economic planning. Regarding social justice (ʿadl), the selective nature of program access and weak accountability raise concerns about fairness. Economic freedom (ḥurriyyah) remains hindered by limited capital access, inadequate institutional support, and bureaucratic rigidity, impeding beneficiaries' long-term financial independence. Solidarity (taʿāwun) is the least developed principle, as current zakat programs tend to rely on top-down implementation models that limit community participation and mutual cooperation. Theoretically, this study contributes to a decolonial rethinking of Islamic social finance by challenging charity-centric paradigms inherited from colonial frameworks. It proposes a maqāṣid-oriented vision of zakat as an emancipatory instrument of social transformation. The article advocates for participatory governance, integration with micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) policies, and ethical institutional reform to ensure zakat functions as a sustainable driver of socio-economic justice in Muslim-majority societies.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students' social literacy and learning interest through the implementation of play methods assisted by flipbook media in Group B at Rahmatan Lil Alamin Islamic Kindergarten, Madiun City. This classroom action research employed Kemmis and McTaggart's spiral model, conducted in two cycles with 19 children as research subjects. Problem identification showed that only 12% of students achieved the Very Well Developed (BSB) category in social literacy at the pre-cycle stage. Data were collected through triangulation using observation sheets and picture questionnaires with assessment rubrics on a scale of 1-4 referring to early childhood education assessment criteria. The success criterion was set at 80% of students achieving at least the Developing as Expected (BSH) category. The results showed significant improvement in social literacy from 37% (pre-cycle) to 65% (cycle I) and 88% (cycle II), with a total increase of 51%. Learning interest increased from 37% to 62% (cycle I) and 82% (cycle II), with a total increase of 45%. Key modifications in cycle II, including transforming flipbooks into game-based learning and implementing sociodramatic play, proved effective in increasing active participation and internalisation of social values. This study concludes that the synergy between play methods and interactive flipbook media can transform passive learning environments into dynamic and motivating interaction spaces for early childhood
