Abstract

White snapper Lates calcarifer is one of the marine fish commodities that has important economic value. The addition of immunostimulant ingredients in feed is believed to increase immunity and increase fish growth. This study aims to determine the effect of adding β-glucan to feed on white snapper (Lates calcarifer). This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 5 treatments with 3 repetitions. White snapper used with a weight of ± 6 grams and a length of ± 7. The frequency of feeding is done 3 times a day. The results of the ANOVA test showed that the addition of β-glucan in the feed significantly affected the growth rate of the fry of white snapper (Lates calcarifer) (P0.05). The best treatment in this study was treatment E (commercial feed + β-glucan 8g/kg feed) which gave the best growth in White snapper where this treatment was able to increase absolute weight (4.51 ± 0.29), absolute length (4 .84 ± 0.284), specific growth rate (2.09 ± 0.15), FCR (1.00 ± 1.00), feed utilization efficiency (97.42 ± 0.50) and survival (100.00 ± 0.00).

Abstract

The grey-eel catfish is a highly valued fish species in some parts of Indonesia. The fish is common in brackish water of estuaries, marine and freshwater habitat. They are not are not usually catched in commercial scale because of the limited population in its habitat. Although the status is not evaluated, the fish is predicted facing extinction in several countries. We conducted a study to examine the biological information and reproductive biology of the fish in Kota Langsa to gather information that can be utilize to evaluate reproductive status of the fish in several habitats. Parameters tested in the study includes sex ratio, length-weight relationships, candition factor, size at first maturity fecundity and reproductive potential of the fish. Research results provide information that the fish follows negative allometric model with constant condition factor throughout the study. The catches were relatively young fish which have not reached maturity stage. Fishes in the class sized at 510-550 mm provide the largest contribution to total eggs production. To ensure sustainability of the fish it is advised that the fish must catched at size larger than 550 mm.

Abstract

Violet Batissa (Batissa violacea) is an important economic organism on the west-south coast of Aceh, because it is relatively high consumed by the community. However, gold mining activities carried out around the watershed are estimated to pollute the river and cause B. violacea to also be affected. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of mercury (Hg) and Lead (Pb) contamination in clam meat in Teunom, Aceh Jaya Regency. The research was conducted from June to September 2021. Sampling of clam was done by purposive sampling method. Hg and Pb were analyzed in clam meat using the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS) method. The results of the analysis showed that the Hg content in clam meat was between 0.12-0.63 mg/kg (mean 0.35±0.26 mg/kg), water 0.0026-0.0103 mg/kg (mean 0.0052±0.004 mg/kg), and sediment 1.3224-3.8767 mg/kg (mean 2.2324±1.427 mg/kg). Furthermore, the results of the analysis showed that the Pb content in clam meat, water and sediment had the same value at 3 stations with values 0.0002±0 mg/kg, 0.0003±0 mg/kg, and 0.0002±0 mg/kg, respectively. The conclusion of this study is that the Hg content in water and sediment has exceeded the threshold, while the clam meat is still in good quality standards. The Pb content in clam meat, water and sediment were also in good quality standards. Based on our study, B. violacea is still safe for consumption, while the water has been polluted and is recommended not to be utilized for human consumption. Keywords:Heavy metalRiverWaterSedimentBatissa violacea

Abstract

Tinfoil barb (Barbonymus schwanenfeldii) is freshwater fish found in Borneo, Java, and Sumatera including in Aceh Province waters. It is known as a native species in Indonesia, locally known as Tengadak or Lampan and this species is popular for consumption due to its taste. Tinfoil barb is targeted species of inland water for fisheries production. In recent years, the fish population has declined because of overexploitation and habitat degradation. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the effects of temperature on Tinfoil barb (B. schwanenfeldii) eggs incubation using a funnel system. It was conducted at Balai Benih Ikan (BBI) Lukup Badak, Central Aceh Regency. The Completely Randomized Design was used as a statistical analysis method with four treatments and three replications at 221 oC, 251 oC, 281 oC, and 311 oC. Hatching was carried out using a funnel system with 100 grain/liter of eggs density for incubation. The parameters measured were hatching time and rate, egg yolk absorption time, the survival rate of the embryo, larvae abnormality, and water quality. The ANOVA test results showed that temperature significantly affected hatching time and rate, egg yolk absorption time, and larvae abnormality (P0.05). In contrast, the effect was insignificant on the survival rate of an embryo, with P0.05. It is concluded that the optimum temperatures for Tinfoil barb eggs incubation were about 251 oC311 oC. A funnel system was more effective for incubation than the conventional system. Keywords:Tinfoil barbFishIncubationTemperatureFunnel System
