Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze of DIY coastal landscape with visual preference analysis for suistanble coastal tourism development and management. The unit of analysis that used is coastal typology. The guideline in deciding the classification of coastal typology is using the Response-Process System with relief/slope, main constructing material, genesis process and dominate process happened in the meantime such as tide, wave and river flow. This response-process system divide the coastal typology into seven classes including coastal typology of land erosion coast, sub aerial deposition coast, volcanic coast, structurally shaped coast, wave erosion coast, marine deposition coast and coast built by organism. The method of SBE (Scenic Beauty Estimation) is used for visual preference analysis, and the method used to compose the policy of costal tourism development is SWOT method. Result shows that all seven coastal typology are found in the coastal area. Land erosion coast and coast built by organism dominate in Gunungkidul coastal area and then in Bantul and Kulon Progo coastal area are dominated by marine deposition coast and sub aerial deposition coast. Volcanic coast, structurally shaped coast, wave erosion coast can only be found in a small area of Gunungkidul coast. Each of this coastal typology has a special land characteristic which can be used to develop its potential. Coast built by organism is very suitable for tourism activity proved by the high score of SBE from the respondents. Recommendation for developing coastal area in area of interest is by developing the coastal natural resources suitable to its physical typology, because this will make the management of coastal area for continuous development easier. Recommendations for coastal management in Gunungkidul including mapping and classification of protected karst area and mineable karst area to secure the run of coastal area management, for coastal management in Bantul using Managed realignment which plans for retreat and adopts engineering solutions that recognise natural processes of adjustment, and identifying a new line of defence where to construct new defences and move seaword model by constructing new defenses seaward the original ones. Last, for Kulon Progo coastal area using hold the line model whereby seawalls are constructed around the coastlines.

Abstract

Genetic information of Indonesian hornbills (Julang) is still limited. We sequenced the cytochrome b gene of three hornbill species (Rhyticeros undulatus, R. plicatus, and Aceros cassidix) to explore their genetic variation, distance, and phylogenetic. Nine blood samples for Cyt b from three hornbill species were isolated with Dneasy® Blood and Tissue Kit base on Spin-Column Protocol, Qiagen. SNP, genetic distance, and phylogeny were calculated by MEGA 6.0 software. This study was found variations in the Cyt b gene sequence (849 bp) between three species Indonesian Julang. Rhyticeros undulatus had the most SNP compared to R. plicatus and Aceros cassidix. Substitution of synonyms is more common than substitution of synonyms and transition substitution frequency tends to be much higher than transversion substitution. The three species of Indonesian Julang were markedly separate with an average genetic distance of 5.25%. and separated with the outgroup species at a genetic distance of 9.43%. Cytochrome b sequence genes from these three hornbill species are novel for identifying and classifying hornbills, and could be applied to prevent illegal poaching and conservation management in Indonesia.

Abstract

Most of the research about the relationship of birds and figs were conducted at natural habitat. We conducted a research about this relationship at urban habitat in Depok and specifically studied utilization of Ficus benjamina by birds as feeding and nesting tree.  The objective of our research was to describe the F. benjamina utilization by urban birds in Depok.  Scans sampling and nest counting were used during this study.  Our research shows that F. benjamina was used as feeding tree by most of birds which lives at urban habitat in Depok.  Our research also shows that some birds used this fig species as nesting tree.    Key Words : birds, Ficus benjamina, urban, Java

Abstract

Guild composition and niche breadth are important point on avian studies. This paper describes the guild composition and niche breadth of understorey bird in Sipisang, West Sumatra. The study was conducted since May 2002 until October 2004 for approximately 10 days each month (totally 284 days or 51.120 net.hours). Fifteen mist nets were operated on ground level separately on three locations, which made 60 m line each. Mist nets were operated from 6.00 AM until 18.00 PM, and checked every two hours. The captured birds were identified, ringed, measured, weighted, photographed and released. In total 1061 individuals were captured during the study; those birds belong to 103 Species and 28 families. Based on guild, study area was dominated by insectivore-frugivore birds (IF) both in species and individual level. Meanwhile terrestrial frugivorous (TF) became the lowest one. Insectivore-frugivore also recorded has the broadest niche breadth. The bird communities dominated by small birds, which have weight lower than 30 g.

Abstract

ABSTRACTSumatran Serow Capricornis sumatraensis sumatraensis (Bechstein, 1799))Distribution at Sipurak-Kerinci Seblat National Park. Sumatran serow [Capricornissumatraensis sumatraensis (Bechstein, 1799)J is one of endangered species in KerinciSeblat National Park (KSNP). Few data are available about Sumatran serow in KSNP.The research was designed to analize the distribution of Sumatran serow in Sipurak.Fieldstudy was conducted from September 2005 to February 2006 in Sipurak, KSNP.The detection-non detection survey method was applied for observation. There were 44cells sampling,' the number of cells determined by purposive sampling base on habitattypes and accessibility to reach the location of cell (easy or hard). The data were analyzedby Arcview 3.2 PC. The sumatran serow just indirectly detected. Sign of its existencemainly detected at ramp. Distribution of sumatran serow mainly was invented on the lowland forest type (8 1,82%) which are characterized by caves, rock-cliff, and rugged hills.Key words: Distribution; detection-non detection; sumatran serow; Sipurak

Abstract

Diversitas Burung pada Beberapa Tipe Habitat di Stasiun Riset Pondok Ambung TanjungPuting Kalimantan Tengah. Penelitian diversitas burung yang dilakukan di kawasan hutangambut, dataran rendah, hutan kerangas dan hutan bekas kebakaran dilakukan setiap hari duakali yaitu pukul 6:00 - 09:00 dan 15:00-18:00 pada kurun waktu 38 hari mulai 29 Juli hingga 5September 2009. Metode pengamatan yang dilakukan adalah metode?point count? dan hasilyang diperoleh tercatat 107 jenis (38 famili) ada di kawasan stasiun ini, dan masing-masing ada48, 50, 45 dan 50 jenis burung dapat dijumpai di hutan gambut, hutan sekunder dataran rendahswamp, hutan kerangas dan hutan bekas kebakaran.Kata Kunci: Diversitas burung, habitat, Tanjung Puting

Abstract

The javan green peafowl (Pavo muticus muticus) is a endangered bird species. They have big pressure to the population and the habitat. The fact that the birds are still exist on their local distribution. Behavior ecology of javan green peafowl is dealing with activities, mechanism and strategies of the birds in relation to their environment. The aimed of the study is to obtain data and information of ecological adaptation strategies through the behavior activities, mechanism and strategies of javan green peafowl in-relation to their habitat types. Ad libitum sampling method was used on continuous recording every peafowl activities in relation with duration, frequencies mechanism and strategy were influenced by habitat type’s condition. Chi-squre test was used for statistical analysis to know different behavior has influenced by habitat types. The result shown that the javan green peafowl habitat typse has significant influenced on duration of the activities but not at the activities pattern. The walking during the feeding, select shading places or luxuriant trees close to feeding site, choosing tall trees or emergent trees close to open area as roost site, open area also road as display or dancing area, open area which grow shrubs as nesting site are javan green peafowl ecological behavior strategies. The mechanism and strategies of javan green peafowl behavior ecology are related to avoid from disturbance and to adapt their habitat type’s conditions.

Abstract

As one of the centres of tourism in Bali, Gianyar Regency has undergone a rapid development rate which could threaten wildlife, including reptile community. This research was carried out in July to October 2014 to (1) analyse the reptile community on various gradients of human modified landscape, (2) determine the relationship between environmental character and reptiles, and (3) determine body size trend of generalist species along landscape gradient. Standard visual encountered surveys were used to observe reptile community in four human modified landscape (settlements, rice fields, farmland/cropland, and monoculture stands). We found 21 species of reptiles (n = 602 individuals) and the Shannon–Wiener index for diversity was 1.78. Reptile abundance tends to decline in increasing level of modification. Water sources and vegetation cover were positively correlated to reptile community, while disturbance factors (i.e. decrease in area size and shorter distance to settlements) give negative impact to reptile community. There was no correlation between body size of generalist species of reptile (Gekko gecko) and level of landscape modification.
