Abstract

Carbon monoxide inhaled into the lungs will enter the blood circulation and inhibit the entry of oxygen needed by the body. This gas combines with hemoglobin to form carboxyhemoglobin (COHb). The increase in COHb in the blood will inhibit the function of oxygen transportation and will affect the health of workers. This study aims to determine the risk factors for increasing COHb in Tirtonadi Bus Station Surakarta officers. The research method used analytic observational with a cross-sectional design. The research population was 110 respondents with a purposive sampling technique to get a research sample of 43 respondents. CO levels in the environment were measured by a CO meter, while COHb levels were measured by a spectrophotometer. The research data were analyzed using Spearman rank. Statistical correlation test showed a significant relationship between CO levels in the environment and COHb levels, p-value = 0.000 and r-value = 0.897, and no significant relationship between length of work and COHb levels with p-value = 0.285 and r-value = - 0.167. CO in the environment is related to the COHb level of traffic security officers at Tirtonadi Bus Station Surakarta, and the length of work is not related to the COHb level of traffic security officers at Tirtonadi Bus Station Surakarta.

Abstract

Work environment factors are one of the factors that cause success in carrying out work but can also cause failure in carrying out a job, because the work environment can affect the physical and mental conditions of workers. One of the factors of the work environment is exposure to noise. Exposure to noise can cause health problems such as increased blood pressure. This study used an analytic observational study with a cross sectional approach. The number of samples is 102 respondents obtained by means of simple random sampling. Measuring noise intensity using a sound level meter and blood pressure using a blood pressure meter. Individual characteristics are assessed using a questionnaire. The results showed that there was an effect of exposure to noise intensity on systolic and diastolic blood pressure with p-values of 0.001 and 0.048 and r-values of 0.329 and 0.192 respectively. There is a strong and unidirectional relationship between noise exposure and blood pressure. This increase in blood pressure can be controlled with hearing conservation such as regular hearing tests. Abstract

Industrial noise is generally one of the risk factors for occupational and environmental safety and health. Noise is a risk factor for decreased hearing threshold value in addition to other factors such as age, working period. This study used a cross-sectional design that aimed to identify the hearing threshold level (HTL) of rice mill workers exposed to hazardous noise in Karanganyar Regency, and investigate the relationship with other factors such as age, tenure. Audiometric data from 92 participants were collected through audiometric examination by qualified personnel using an audiometer in a quiet environment. The test was conducted after the participants had rested completely for >14 hours after their last exposure to workplace noise. The results showed that all participants had worked in a noise-hazard work zone for >1 year. The participants' ages ranged from 28 to 57 years. The average hearing threshold in the right ear was 36.71 dB and the average hearing threshold in the left ear was 39.55 dB. The hearing loss associated with work experience was greater than that caused by noise intensity age. Noise intensity, age and working experience were significant to the workers' ear hearing threshold values. Multivariate test results show that noise intensity is the most influential factor (>60%) on HTL. HTL among industrial workers should be assessed regularly. At the health policy level, these workers need to start being protected when they start working.

Abstract

Noise can cause nuisance and significantly threaten people's health and well-being. This study aims to find the relationship between noise exposure with blood pressure and stress of traffic helper volunteers in Makassar City.  This study employed an analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 80 respondents were selected using purposive sampling technique. Traffic noise was measured using a sound level meter, blood pressure was measured using a tension meter and work stress was measured using a work stress questionnaire adapted from Permenaker No. 5/2018. Questions relating to sociodemographic information were also distributed for individual characteristic data. The results showed there was a significant influence between noise intensity and systolic blood pressure (p value = 0.001; r = 0.329), also with diastolic blood pressure (p value = 0.02; r = 0.230), noise also affects fatigue (p value = 0.016; r = 0.238), the value of r on the strength of the correlation shows a fairly strong correlation. Thus, exposure to traffic noise is associated with a high risk of blood pressure and fatigue.

Abstract

Air pollution is a serious global public health problem, contributing significantly to various respiratory diseases, including acute respiratory infections (ISPA). One of the hazardous components of pollution is small particles called PM10. PM10 has a profound impact on respiratory health, as long-term exposure to PM10 can increase the risk of respiratory disorders, especially among workers exposed to polluted environments. This study aims to analyze the effect of PM10 exposure on subjective complaints of ISPA in Phinisi ship workers in Tanah Lemo Village, Bonto Bahari District, Bulukumba Regency. The research method used is quantitative research with an analytical observational design and a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study comprised all Phinisi ship workers. The sample was determined using a purposive sampling technique of 127 based on the established inclusion criteria; however, only 41 respondents were willing to participate. Data were collected through structured interviews and PM10 concentration measurements using the Hazard-Dust EPAM 5000 device. The results showed that PM10 concentrations at the Phinisi shipbuilding site exceeded the established threshold, with an average concentration reaching 126 mg/m³. Bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between PM10 exposure and subjective complaints of ISPA (p-value <0.05), as well as between individual characteristics—such as smoking status and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ISPA complaints. These findings indicate that workers exposed to PM10 for a long period have a higher risk of experiencing ARI complaints. The results of this study are expected to provide significant contributions to the development of occupational health and safety policies, as well as recommendations for improving ventilation and using more effective PPE in the shipbuilding industry. Thus, appropriate preventive measures can be implemented to protect the health of workers in the maritime sector
