Abstract

Wear due to abrasion on components made of rubber-like material such as on a vehicle tire or seal strongly determines the service life of these components. In rubber material, when the surface is still smooth experiencing abrasion contact, it will form a ridge shaped on abraded surface in a parallel direction perpendicular to the direction of motion of the abrasion. The ridge shaped of the abraded surface will be continuously formed during the abrasion process. Abrasion wear occurs due to stress on the rubber material beyond the fracture stress of the material. However, the analysis of abrasion wear on rubber is still very difficult to discuss analytically due to the non-linear and hyper-elastic properties of rubber material. Using a numerical method, this paper discusses the stresses that occur on the abraded rubber surfaces of SBR-25. As a preliminary study, the analysis was carried out in two dimensions using commercial software ABAQUS 6.14-5 by modeling the rubber in contact with a single rigid indenter. Simulations are carried out with variations in indentation depth, surface roughness and ridge (chip) dimensions. In general, the results show that the large indentation depth and surface roughness increase the maximum stress value. On the other hand, the location of the maximum stress (critical stress) is also strongly influenced by indentation depth, surface roughness and dimensions of the chip.

Abstract

Robots have become mechanical equipment that can perform physical tasks, either by monitoring or using predefined programs (artificial intelligence). One type of robot is a mobile robot that has a driving mechanism in the form of a wheel and leg so that it can move from one place to another. One type of mobile robot includes balancing a two-wheeled robot and can balance itself to the surface of the earth. In this study, we will try to design a model of balancing robots that in future development can be used in hospitals by medical personnel as an environmentally friendly means of transportation. This is because medical personnel often have to be mobile in monitoring patients. Related to this, so that the model of balancing robot can be balanced, one type of controller is used. The sensor used is the NI myRIO accelerometer sensor to detect angular changes, and the gyroscope sensor to detect angular velocity. In order to balance the model of balancing robot, the Proportional-Integral control method is used to adjust the speed of the DC direction of the rotating motor. Tuning Proportional- Integral control parameters is done by two methods, namely Ziegler-Nichols method and trial and error. The good tuning from Proportional Integral is the gain value Kp = 5 and Ki = 0.001.

Abstract

The development of industrial technology can help the manufacturing industry for producing quality products. One tool that can help produce such quality products is CNC machines. As we know that the price of CNC machines is not cheap. Therefore, in this article, the researchers suggest how to design a prototype CNC laser engraving machine for the acrylic workpiece. The machine is designed as cheaply as possible but provide great benefits. The machine frame is designed using aluminum extrusion, the laser uses a laser diode type, the actuators of axis uses the stepper motor, and the control software uses a USB CNC controller. The dimension of workpiece that can be machined is 600 mm x 300 mm x 2 mm. The optimization of the stepper motor movement system is chosen 1/8 micro stepping after testing full-step method, half-step, 1/8 micro stepping, and 1/16 micro stepping. Using a 2.5 watt diode laser module, the radiant heat received by the acrylic workpiece during the engraving process is 558.8 x 10-5 cal/sec.
