Abstract

Research on experiential meaning breadth of bilingual analysis is rarely performed. The research aims at describing (1) the experiential meaning breadth variations of Alice in Wonderland English- Bahasa Indonesia movie texts, (2) the contextual factors that motivate the occurrence of meaning and realization variations, and (3) the contextual effects of the meaning and realization variations in question on the context in reference to the target readers of the texts. The research used descriptive qualitative approach to make the interpretation and the research findings. The data were taken from Alice in Wonderland (2010) movie texts then measured and validated in terms of quantitative research then analyzed through several steps: classifying the data into realized and unrealized expressions, classifying the data into the categories or degrees of variations, classifying the higher degree of each clause compared, giving number of clauses and their process type, contrasting each analysis result, and drawing conclusions. Research results indicate that the most prominent degree of experiential meaning breadth variations falls into the “lowest” category of variation with 57.54%. This means that the Target Text is closely related to the Source Text and/ or the translator of Target Text applied source- based translation as regards experiential meaning breadth complexity. It is also strengthened by the average degree in each of the analysis falling in “very low” category. The contextual factors that motivate the occurrence of the variations consist of inter- textual and situational context (field, mode, and tenor). The contextual effects in reference to the target readers are related to two aspects; the readability and the purpose of creating the texts. The Target Text is readable for the target readers of the text, target readers feel entertained by interpreting the text. The purpose for creating the Target Texts is for education and gives effects for the target readers to enrich their vocabularies and improve their English skills.

Abstract

Globalization, on the other hand, necessitates the use of English scholarly for a multitude of objectives. With the exception of the oral presentation course, which was designed without undertaking needs analysis, English has been taught in traditional ways at universities. As a result, completing a systematic requirements analysis and identifying the challenges faced by Non-English major students necessitates investigation. The qualitative case study approach was used in this study, and the questionnaires were designed to extract information regarding the students' oral presentation demands. The questionnaire was filled out online by 164 people. According to the findings of the investigation, students in the ESP class regard oral presenting as a crucial component of their formal education. Furthermore, oral presentations have proven to be a good means of improving students' communication skills. As a result, student presentations have evolved into key components in providing positive learning experiences. This finding and conclusion, however, are limited to a specific department in a specific location and circumstance. The analysis results may differ depending on the field and circumstances. It is recommended that additional needs analysis research for other disciplines be conducted in greater depth.

Abstract

In developing the game of pétanque, it is necessary to master good basic techniques because this is the initial capital of an athlete to develop his game. Good mastery of basic techniques can also improve performance optimally. The purpose of this study was to analyze the accuracy of petanque pointing in a standing position at Atlas City Petanque Club (ACPC) athletes in Semarang City. The type of this study is descriptive-quantitative. The sample of this study was 8 athletes of ACPC club in Semarang city consisting one female and seven male athletes. Inclusion criteria in this study was having experience at national or international levels competitions and having trained for at least 6 months. All sample also sign the inform consent as a agreement to participate the research until the end. The results of this study indicate that the analysis of the pointing accuracy in standing position by ACPC club athletes in Semarang City is in the Precise Category, with an average distance of the ball to a target was 0.14 meters. Pointing in a standing position is very effective for a distance of 9 meters due to the ideal body position with a long throw distance from the target. The limitation of this study only focuses on the throwing distance produced by each athlete, so it has not been able to analyze every value generated from each athlete’s throws. Further, research can analyze the backspin technique of pointing in a standing position to complement the current research data.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the mapping of the quality of Islamic higher education based on the similarity of student service satisfaction. This study used ex-post-facto research with an explorative. It employed a descriptive design. The subjects consisted of students from various study programs at the FETT, the SII Ambon. Data were collected through student satisfaction questionnaires. Data analysis was performed using Multidimensional Scaling. The results showed similarities in mapping the quality of Islamic higher education based on student service satisfaction from 6 study programs. It calculated the closest Euclidean distance between objects located in Biology Education and Islamic Education study programs or vice versa, where the proximity is 0.233. It indicates that the quality of education in student service satisfaction between Biology Education and Islamic Education study programs has the highest similarity compared to other study programs. The output of the MDS analysis obtained a stress value of 0.03671 (3.67%) and R2 of 0.99606. It represents an acceptable spatial map (R2 ≥ 0.6).
