Abstract

The dhadhak merak is an iconic mask in Reyog Ponorogo. Over a very long period of time, the dhadhak merak has visually evolved into the form that is often seen today. The visual phenomenon then forms an image of Ponoragan visual culture that is interesting to explore in greater depth. This is what attracts the author's attention to focus on reviewing: 1) The phenomenon of visual development of dhadhak merak over time and 2) Reading Ponoragan visual culture in dhadhak merak. This research is a descriptive qualitative research, with data collection techniques using literature studies and archival documentation. In the process of reading the visual culture of dhadhak merak, the author conducted a review from several aspects, namely: visual structure, function, value, and meaning. The results of this study are 1) The dhadhak merak has undergone seven phases of development starting from its simple dhadhak to the form that is commonly found today. 2) The visual structure, function, historical value, and meaning of the dhadhak merak are constructed on the culture of the people of Ponorogo itself starting from the era of animism-dynamism, Hindu-Buddhism, Islam, to the present era. From that, the Ponoragan culture as a very strong identity marker can be reflected in the dhadhak merak visual culture artifact.

Abstract

Di era disrupsi, pengenalan mata kuliah baru sangatlah terbuka untuk mengejar hasil yang lebih baik. Artikel ini memaparkan kekuatan Antropologi Pendidikan Seni Budaya sebagai mata kuliah baru dalam memicu pembelajaran kreatif. Mata pelajaran ini dipengaruhi oleh kontaknya dengan ilmu-ilmu sosial dan perubahan pandangan masyarakat tentang belajar. Penelitian ini mencoba untuk mengungkap (1) Bagaimana mata pelajaran baru ini diterapkan untuk memicu pembelajaran kreatif? dan (2) Bagaimana mata pelajaran baru ini mendapat pengaruh dari ilmu-ilmu sosial, sehingga mengubah pandangan orang tentang pembelajaran kreatif? Kajian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif longitudinal selama tiga tahun, 2018-2021. Subyek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa pascasarjana Jurusan Pendidikan Seni Budaya Universitas Negeri Surabaya. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi kelas secara tatap mulai pada 2018-2019 dan pertemuan online saat pandemi pada 2020. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengenalan mata kuliah baru Pendidikan Seni Budaya Antropologi membawa tren yang cukup menjanjikan. Mata kuliah ini menjadi ajang eksplorasi dan curah pendapat dalam kajian interdisipliner. Selanjutnya dalam ilmu-ilmu sosial, Sosiologi, misalnya, mata kuliah ini memiliki pengaruh dalam mengubah pandangan masyarakat melalui pembelajaran kreatif.

Abstract

Pameran seni rupa di pintu keluar tol Brebes ini menjadi wadah bagi para seniman lokal untuk memasarkan karya-karyanya secara langsung kepada masyarakat. Meskipun pameran ini tidak memiliki tema khusus, keragaman karya para seniman diakui sebagai strategi untuk menarik pembeli dari berbagai kalangan. Pameran ini memiliki kekurangan, seperti keterbatasan tempat dan manajemen, namun juga memiliki kelebihan, seperti lokasi yang strategis dan manajemen keuangan yang bersifat kekeluargaan. Para seniman menjual karya-karyanya secara langsung di lokasi, meskipun mereka juga memasarkannya melalui akun Instagram. Meskipun pengiriman dilakukan secara online, tidak ada keluhan tentang penipuan. Kepercayaan pembeli sangat ditekankan, meskipun tidak ada perjanjian tertulis yang mengikat. Pameran ini memiliki pendekatan dan tata kelola penjualan yang mengedepankan aspek kekeluargaan dan saling mendukung di antara para seniman. Study of Fine Art Sales in Alternative Spaces: Case Study of Art Market Exhibition in Heritage Rest Area at KM 260 B Banjaratma Brebes ABSTRACT The art exhibition at the Brebes Toll Exit is a place where local artists can market their works directly to the public. Despite the exhibition not having a specific theme, the diversity of the artists' works is recognized as a strategy to attract buyers from various circles. This exhibition has shortcomings, such as limited space and management, but also has advantages, such as a strategic location and familial financial management. The artists sell their works directly on location, although they also market through their Instagram accounts. Despite deliveries being made online, there have been no complaints about fraud. Buyer trust is emphasized, even though there is no binding written agreement. This exhibition has a sales approach and governance that prioritizes familial aspects and mutual support among artists.

Abstract

Visual communication design education in Indonesia has long applied studio-based teaching methods influenced by the history of the European design education system. In studio-based learning, students are required to master competencies formed from; personality competence, technical competence, communication competence, methodological competence, and social competence. In the studio room, student knowledge is developed by conducting training guided by lecturers. The studio trained technical exercises such as sharpening hand skills, processing taste, and shape. The studio also forms students' understanding of the design's concept. Gradually the quality in designing can be formed. With the Covid-19 pandemic, studio-based teaching methods have been forced to be carried out online. This article seeks to describe the forms and processes of change in learning in studios that use digital technology as a result of the pandemic conditions. By taking some examples of cases of application of learning in the design studio, the presentation intends to reflect a new learning style rooted in studio-based learning in visual communication design education and to present ideas that become material for further research for the development of learning methods in the field of design in the future.

Abstract

Kompleks makam Sunan Drajat merupakan warisan budaya yang memiliki hubungan dekat dengan periode kehiduan Sunan Drajat. Bale Rante merupakan bangunan berbahan material kayu yang berasal dari kerajaan Majapahit. Memiliki bentuk ragam hias yang unik dan berbeda dengan bentuk ragam hias pada bangunan kompleks makam lainnya. Bale Rante berbetuk joglo beratap limas,  digunakan oleh para Wali Songo untuk berkumpul dan bermusyawarah. Tujuan: mendeskripsikan makna ragam hias yang ada pada bangunan Bale Rante. Metode penelitian: penelitian ini menggunakan metodologi penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dengan metode analisis ikonografi dan ikonologi Erwin Panofsky. Tahap pra ikonografi dilakukan dengan mengkaji bentuk penyusun ragam hias pada bangunan Bale Rante berdasarkan makna faktual dan makna ekspresionalnya. Tahap analisis ikonografi dilakukan dengan mengidentifikasi makna sekunder yang telah dikaji sebelumnya dengan mengaitkan pada tema dan konsep penciptaan sesuai peristiwa atau sejarah ragam hias tersebut diciptakan. Tahap interpreasi ikonologi dilakukan dengan melakukan intuisi sintesis untuk mengungkap makna yang terkandung dalam simbol yang ada pada ragam hias. Hasil penelitian: Bentuk rantai menyimbolkan kesatuan dan pengayoman. Daun ukel menyimbolkan sumber kehidupan dan kebaikan hati. Pohon hayat dan bunga teratai menyimbolkan keabadian dan penyatuan manusia dengan Allah.

Abstract

Carnival art activities in schools are often constrained by students' lack of skills in makeup and supporting accessory creation. This training aimed to improve the ability of students from SMA Labschool Unesa 1 in carnival makeup and independent headpiece making. The methods used included lecture, demonstration, Q&A, and paired simulation with the Bird of Paradisetheme. The results showed that all participants divided into 10 teams successfully created headpieces and applied creative, on-theme character makeup within 3 hours. Participants became more skilled, confident, and able to collaborate effectively. The long-term impact of this activity is reducing the school's dependence on external makeup artists, optimizing the budget, and fostering a culture of creativity and self-reliance among students. This training proves that a project-based practical approach is effective in developing life skills and art literacy among high school students.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the problems in learning interactive art and culture at Junior High School level which was categorized as the millennial generation. The focus of this study laid in the interdisciplinary aspect of social media in multimodality of learning arts and culture. In order to reveal the opportunities and challenges of the use of social media in its development as a medium in interactive art and culture learning, as well as the students’ responses about it, this study used qualitative-analytic method. Data were obtained from observation conducted from January to June 2020 at junior high schools in Surabaya, East Java. The results showed that the learning involvement experienced by students had complexity and multimodality, including collaborative work, observing, and evaluating each other's work, and involvement in finding, identifying, and exploring trends related to delivery in social media as a medium for art and culture learning. This implied that this learning involvement was able to motivate students to be more actively involved in learning with a sense of joy; positioning artwork with others on social media; increasing the contextual and conceptual understanding in the learning materials and applying it as a process of actualizing aesthetic skills; and improving critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Abstract

This paper was a theoretical exploration of proxemic discourse and the experience of cafe space as a transitional educational space. It was based on the development of a paradigm in the 21st century that has targeted the cafe sector and provided the potential to be converted into an alternative educational space, especially for the millennial generation, called students. This study theoretically explored based on the phenomena seen at Yoman Cafe in Surabaya, Indonesia, which often became an alternative learning place for students at Universitas Negeri Surabaya. The research was conducted through participatory observations during March 2021, and it was analyzed by carrying out theoretical exploration of proxemics, spatial experiences, and alternative spaces. The results showed that the cafe currently had a dual role which was known as hybrid. Apart from being a cafe with the traditional definition of being a place to eat, the current cafe also had a role as an alternative space. This was based on the achievement of several aspects to create a sense of comfort as a transitional educational space, namely table settings that provided private space for visitors, comfortable and comprehensive furniture, selection of materials, ambiance entertainment, lighting and acoustics, colors, and use of aesthetic elements.

Abstract

Purpose – Despite Indonesia’s Projek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila (P5), empirical evidence remains limited on how local-wisdom projects in secondary madrasahs operationalize equal school–community partnerships and through what mechanisms these partnerships shape students’ cultural identity and social engagement. This study examines a teacher–artisan co-teaching model and its outcomes for cultural identity and school–community engagement.Methodology – A qualitative case study was conducted at MA Ma'arif 20 Tarbiyatul Huda, Sendangduwur Village. The subjects were 73 students and 23 teachers. Data from participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation were analyzed thematically (reduction–appearance–conclusion) using CTL, collaborative learning, and cultural socialization as lenses. Triangulation and member checking supported data reliability.Findings – Thematic analysis revealed a six-phase project architecture culminating in a public exhibition, enabled by a distributed-expertise configuration: teachers coordinated learning objectives, reflection, and assessment; artisans taught core craft techniques and motif meanings; and alums mediated logistics and mentoring. Batik co-production fostered students' cultural identity pride, aesthetic literacy, and creative agency, while strengthening cooperation, responsibility, and empathy through task division, peer support, and public-facing accountability. The partnership also mitigated constraints such as limited specialist teacher capacity and the absence of formal batik teaching modules.Contribution – This study offers a replicable P5-oriented batik pedagogy model that formalizes artisans as co-educators and articulates design principles for curriculum support and sustainable school–community networks, particularly for madrasahs with constrained arts-teaching expertise and instructional infrastructure.

Abstract

Pendahuluan: Guru seni budaya di Kota Blitar masih menghadapi keterbatasan dalam menerapkan pembelajaran mendalam (deep learning) yang berorientasi pada keterlibatan aktif siswa dan higher order thinking skills (HOTS). Berdasarkan asesmen diagnostik awal, hanya 3 dari 26 guru (11,53%) yang memiliki pemahaman yang sesuai dengan konsep pembelajaran mendalam. Selain itu, keterbatasan infrastruktur teknologi di beberapa sekolah mitra dan rendahnya kemampuan menyusun perangkat pembelajaran inovatif turut menjadi hambatan utama. Studi ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi guru seni budaya MGMP Kota Blitar dalam merancang perangkat pembelajaran berbasis pembelajaran mendalam melalui pelatihan tiga hari dan pendampingan reflektif. Metode: Blended Learning dan pendampingan reflektif berbasis model coaching for reflective teaching. Hasil: Setelah pelatihan, sebanyak 46,15% berhasil menyusun perangkat pembelajaran yang berorientasi pada pembelajaran mendalam, berpusat pada siswa, HOTS, asesment autentik, dan ruang refleksi belajar. Kesimpulan: Kegiatan ini berhasil meningkatkan pemahaman awal guru serta mendorong sebagian peserta menyusun perangkat pembelajaran yang lebih inovatif dan berorientasi pada keterlibatan aktif siswa.
