Abstract

Background: Nanostructured lipid carriers (NLC) are topical delivery systems designed to address the challenges associated with active ingredients, such as poor solubility and limited skin penetration. NLCs incorporate surfactants, such as sorbitan monooleate and lauryl glucoside, to stabilize the system, while the addition of soy lecithin as a co-surfactant further enhances NLC stability. A D-optimal design was employed to optimize the NLC components, ensuring that the formulation achieved the desired characteristics. Objective: To determine the optimal NLC formulation. Method: Optimization was conducted using the D-optimal design method. The NLCs were prepared using the high-shear homogenization method with an Ultra-Turrax device. Characterization included measuring the particle size, polydispersity index (PDI), pH, and creaming index. Results: All formulations resulted in homogeneous emulsions with a white color, slight aroma of castor oil, smooth texture, and thick consistency. The particle sizes ranged from 200 to 500 nm, although the polydispersity index was not significantly influenced by surfactants or co-surfactants. All the formulations maintained an appropriate pH range for skin compatibility and product stability. The %creaming index demonstrated that the co-surfactant effectively reduced creaming in the NLCs. Conclusion: The optimal formulation consisted of 0.284% sorbitan monooleate, 3.429% lauryl glucoside, and 0.287% soy lecithin.

Abstract

Koenzim Q10 berfungsi sebagai antioksidan yang dapat melindungi tubuh dari kerusakan yang disebabkan oleh radikal bebas. Asam hialuronat dikenal sebagai polimer hidrofilik yang berasal dari polisakarida yang memiliki kemampuan untuk meningkatkan penetrasi perkutan dengan mengubah komposisi sel stratum korneum yang tersusun rapat sehingga meningkatkan permeabilitas kulit. Asam hialuronat juga berfungsi sebagai pelembab. Nanostructured Lipid Carrier merupakan modifikasi dari sistem SLN, yang terdiri dari campuran lipid padat dan cair (minyak), distabilkan dengan larutan surfaktan berair, merupakan salah satu metode untuk meningkatkan penetrasi obat melalui stratum korneum karena memiliki beberapa keunggulan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat pengaruh penambahan asam hialuronat terhadap stabilitas fisik  Nanostructure Lipid Carrier (NLC) sebagai anti penuaan. Pemeriksaan stabilitas fisik meliputi pH, ukuran partikel, indeks polidispersitas dan viskositas. Uji stabilitas fisik (pH, ukuran partikel dan indeks polidispersitas dan viskositas) dilakukan dengan penyimpanan selama 30 hari pada suhu kamar. Hasil pengukuran menunjukkan bahwa pH, ukuran partikel, indeks polidispersitas dan viskositas stabil selama penyimpanan.

Abstract

Quercetin is a flavonoid compound that exhibits skin-brightening activity by inhibiting tyrosinase. However, its topical application is limited because of its low solubility. A Nanostructured Lipid Carrier (NLC) was selected as the delivery system to enhance the stability and topical efficacy of quercetin. This study aimed to optimize the combination ratio of oleic acid and Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) as the liquid lipid phase in the NLC Blank Formulation using the Simplex Lattice Design (SLD) method. Eight blank NLC formulations were prepared using the high-shear homogenization method and were evaluated based on organoleptic properties, particle size, polydispersity index (PDI), pH, and real-time stability over 30 days. Eight blank NLC Blank Formulations showed that a balanced VCO to oleic acid ratio (5.5:4.5) produced small particle sizes (<160 nm), low polydispersity index (PDI <0.25), and good physical stability. Blank Formulations dominated by either VCO or oleic acid tended to have larger particles and lower stability, indicating that the liquid lipid ratio influenced the NLC characteristics. Optimization using the Simplex Lattice Design (SLD) method identified three optimal lipid ratios: B1 (4.86:5.31), B2 (2:8), and B3 (9:1), each with desirability values near 1. The model was validated by comparing the predicted (dry lab) and experimental (wet lab) data, which showed no significant differences in key parameters (p > 0.05), confirming the reliability of the SLD model. This approach effectively optimized quercetin-loaded NLC Blank Formulations, and the three selected Blank Formulas serve as a strong basis for developing topical quercetin NLC products.

Abstract

The food industry experiences various serious problems when several food MSMEs (micro/small/medium enterprises), especially micro-scale ones, practice improper food manufacturing methods, such as the use of formalin and borax which are prohibited for food preservation, and the marketing of expired food, even repackaged, and the writing of halal labels that are not followed by the fulfillment of requirements. Efforts to prevent things that are detrimental to the community, as well as food and beverage MSME actors, are not only the responsibility of government agencies but also the entire community, including universities for education and assistance in improving the quality and quantity of products produced, as well as the quality of human resources of business actors. The methods used include counseling and skills training, and the outcome is an increase in knowledge of 31%

Abstract

Antibiotics are not only used for humans, but also often used for cattle and livestock which are then been consumed by humans. This over prescribed and missed used of antibiotic is a major factor in antibiotic resistance. Antibiotic resistance is a condition where bacteria are unable to be treated with antibiotics. In fact, the use of antibiotics is the first response in curing infectious diseases (by bacteria) and preventing infectious diseases spreading. With antibiotic resistance, preventing infectious diseases by bacteria became harder. This community service activity came up with a slogan "Antibiotic Resistence Awareness Movement" was carried out in Surabaya 10 Public High Schools and Surabaya 17 Public High Schools with 60 students per school using several methods, namely: (a) giving lecture material using LCD projectors ) the implementation of poster making competitions, and (c) poster presentations that have been made that are accompanied by question and answer, and (d) evaluation activities in the form of written tests covering pre-test and post-test. Concerning the results of posters results, poster presentations and improving the results of this posttest can be concluded as a result of an increase in understanding and or knowledge of students of SMA 10 and SMA 17 Surabaya

Abstract

Hydrolyzed collagen (HC) exhibits excellent anti-aging activity, but when applied topically, it faces limitations related to its physicochemical properties and low permeability to penetrate the skin. A system like liposomes is required. With the addition of cholesterol and Tween 80 surfactant to the liposome formulation, it is anticipated to enhance the characteristics and stability of the system in various combination ratios of Soy phosphatidylcholine: cholesterol: Tween 80, namely (F1= 4: 2: 1), (F2= 4: 1: 1), and (F3= 4: 1: 2). Characterization test results indicate that formula F3 exhibits the best characteristics, with respective values for particle size, PDI, zeta potential, and %EE being 63.26nm ± 0.73; 0.182 ± 0.011; 2.5mV ± 0.1; and 85.54% ± 0.20. Real-time stability test results, analyzed statistically using a Paired T-test, yield p-values for all three formulas (Sig 2-tailed) < 0.05, signifying a significant difference. Formula F2 demonstrates the smallest differences in particle size reduction and %EE. Hence, it can be observed that F2 stands out as the formula with the best characteristics and stability compared to F1 and F3. Keywords:          Characteristics; hydrolyzed collagen; liposomes; cholesterol; Tween 80   Abstrak Hydrolized Collagen (HC) memiliki aktivitas anti-aging yang sangat baik, namum secara topikal memiliki keterbatasan terkait sifat fisika kimia dan permeabilitasnya yang rendah untuk menembus kulit. Dibutuhkan suatu sistem seperti liposom. Dengan penambahan kolesterol dan surfaktan Tween 80 ke dalam formulasi liposom diharapkan akan meningkatkan karakteristik dan stabilitas sistem dalam beberapa perbandingan kombinasi formula Soy phospatidylcholine:  kolesterol: Tween 80 yaitu (F1= 4: 2: 1), (F2= 4: 1: 1), dan (F3= 4: 1: 2). Hasil uji karakteristik menunjukkan formula F3 memiliki karakteristik terbaik dengan nilai ukuran partikel, PDI, zeta potensial, dan %EE secara berturut-turut 63,26nm ± 0,73; 0,182 ± 0,011; 2,5mV ± 0,1; dan 85,54% ± 0,20. Hasil uji stabilitas real-time menunjukkan hasil analisis statistik menggunakan Paired T-test diperoleh p-value ketiga formula yaitu Sig (2- tailed) < 0,05, yang berarti terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan dan formula F2 yang memiliki selisih penurunan ukuran partikel dan %EE terkecil. Sehingga, dapat dilihat bahwa F2 merupakan formula yang memiliki karakteristik dan stabilitas paling baik dibandingkan dengan F1 dan F3.
