Abstract

Role balance is essential for dual-career mothers to perform optimally in both work and family domains.  The purpose of this study was to understand how dual-career mothers with children achieved work–family balance to promote family well-being. This study used a qualitative approach employing a phenomenological research design. The sample for this study was selected through purposive technique consisting of four mothers who have dual-careers, children, and are not in a long-distance relationship with their husbands. The data analysis technique used is interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA). The results indicated that there were five components that supported work–family balance among dual-career mothers, namely dual role balance, work–family balance motivation, family support, dual-career impact, and family well-being. A positive and supportive family environment played a major role in contributing to mothers’ success in achieving a balance between work and family. This study contributes to a better understanding of how dual-career mothers can manage role demands, with potential implications for enhancing family functioning and well-being.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the meaning of self-actualization among women who simultaneously undertake the roles of worker and university student. Employing an interpretative phenomenological approach, the study involved four early adult women who were actively employed while pursuing higher education. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using reflective thematic analysis to identify the essence of participants’ lived experiences. The findings reveal that self-actualization is understood not as a final achievement but as an ongoing process of negotiation between professional demands, academic aspirations, and personal identity formation. Participants encountered challenges such as time conflicts, physical exhaustion, and emotional fluctuations, which were interpreted as integral to personal growth. Self-regulation, personal efficacy, and goal orientation emerged as central factors in sustaining commitment to capacity development. The study indicates that self-actualization among working women pursuing higher education is constructed through contextual, reflective, and adaptive processes, positioning it as an existential experience continuously negotiated within complex social circumstances.

Abstract

Happiness at work has proven to be important for both companies and employees. However, outsourcing employees are faced with conditions that do not support happiness at work, such as: (1) job insecurity, (2) status conflicts, and (3) no career path. This research aims to explore the meaning of happiness at work for outsourcing employees and determine the factors that can influence it. This research used a qualitative phenomenological method with 5 outsourcing employees who were placed to work at one of the state universities in Indonesia as resource persons. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews and data analysis using interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA). The research results show that the meaning of happiness at work for outsourced employees is when they have a job amidst limited job opportunities. They are happy because they can earn a living to meet their family's needs without losing their main role in the family. They feel happy at work when there are good relationships with coworkers and gain recognition from the work environment. The research results show 5 factors that influence happiness at work, namely: (1) Relationships with coworkers, (2) Work Environment, (3) Difficulties faced, (4) Evaluation of the company, and (5) Gratitude. As the outsourcing system continues to develop, more and more workers will have outsourcing employee status. These findings fill the gap in literature/information related to workplace happiness among outsourced employees so that they can be used as material for consideration by policy makers in companies and in government.
