Abstract

Methylene blue is a textile dye with carcinogenic and mutagenic properties which can cause various problems for the environment and organisms, therefore it is necessary to treat the waste. This study describes the adsorption of methylene blue using base-activated coconut coir. Coconut coir as waste was prepared into 80 mesh-sized powder and then activated using NaOH solution. The base-activated coconut fiber was then used for methylene blue adsorption under several optimization conditions such as pH, contact time, concentration, and adsorption isotherm. The determination of methylene blue was adsorbed by the adsorbent measured using UV-VIS. The pH and contact time results were 7 and 75 minutes, respectively, with the adsorption capacity (qe) of 1.98 mg g-1 and 99.91%. The isotherm adsorption of blue methylene followed the Langmuir isotherm model with the maximum adsorption capacity (Qmax) of 0.2 mg -1. The result showed that the coconut fiber base activated could be used as a dye adsorbent.

Abstract

Research in the field of microbiology regarding the identification of endophytic bacteria in aloe vera is still rarely carried out while many people in East Nusa Tenggara often use aloe vera to cure diseases. The purpose of this study was to identify the endophytic bacteria Aloe barbadensis miller and to determine its antibacterial ability against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Escsherichia coli bacteria.  The research procedures included taking samples using purposive sampling method, isolating endophytic bacteria using streak plate method, testing the antibacterial potential against Staphylococcus aureus and Eschericia coli using the paper disc diffusion method. The results showed that endophytic bacteria found on aloe vera leaves were marked by the growth of several bacterial colonies on Murashige-Skoog media with different shapes and colors, then the colonies were separated and 8 isolates were obtained with isolate codes C1B, C2B, C3B, C4B, C5B, C6B, C7B and C8B. The results of the antibacterial potency test showed that isolates C1B, C3B, C5B and C8B had the potential to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus characterized by the presence of a clear zone on the surface of the media with the largest size being 20 mm in isolate C1B and the smallest clear zone being 7 mm in isolate C8B, while isolate C1B, C3B, C5B and C8B have the potential to inhibit the growth of Eschericia coli bacteria characterized by the presence of a clear zone on the surface of the media with the largest size of 10 mm in isolate C1B and the smallest clear zone of 7 mm in isolate C8B. The conclusion of this study is that endophytic bacteria have been identified in aloe vera and some of these bacteria have antibacterial abilities against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria.

Abstract

Kesehatan merupakan keinginan setiap orang. Kebiasaan mengkonsumsi makanan bergizi dapat meningkatkan kesehatan manusia. Makanan bergizi dapat diproduksi dari bahan di pekarangan rumah. Kelimpahan kelor di Nasipanaf menjadi alasan diadakannya kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat. Berdasarkan hasil diskusi, masyarakat hanya memasak daun kelor dengan metode perebusan. Melalui kegiatan sosialisasi, pemateri menyampaikan berbagai manfaat daun kelor pada berbagai bidang baik kesehatan, pertanian dan kuliner. Hal ini untuk menyadarkan masyarakat akan manfaat yang dimiliki oleh daun kelor. Pengolahan daun kelor menjadi produk olahan bernilai gizi tinggi perlu dilakukan untuk menambah pemahaman masyarakat terhadap variasi kuliner. Pada kegiatan ini, daun kelor akan diolah menjadi puding, kembang goyang dan mie. Daun kelor yang telah diambil dibersihkan dan dihaluskan. Setelah menjadi serbuk, kemudian diolah menjadi puding, kembang goyang dan mie. Setelah kegiatan ini selesai dilaksanakan, masyarakat merasa senang karena mendapat tambahan pengetahuan tentang pengolahan daun kelor menjadi produk pangan. Pemateri merekomendasikan masyarakat agar bisa memperoleh referensi yang bervariasi tentang pengolahan bahan makanan bernilai gizi tinggi dengan memanfaatkan teknologi.

Abstract

Peningkatan kualitas hidup manusia ditentukan oleh kualitas pendidikan. Semakin baik kualitas pendidikan maka SDM akan semakin kompeten. Adanya covid 19 menyebabkan perubahan pola pembelajaran, karena kegiatan pembelajaran dilakukan di rumah masing-masing siswa. Kondisi ini menyebabkan banyak anak SDI Bonen tidak bisa membaca dan berhitung karena minimnya interaksi dengan guru secara langsung. Situasi ini membuat Tim PKM Unwira untuk berkontribusi bagi pendidikan khususnya di SDI Bonen. Metode yang ditawarkan adalah dengan mengadakan kegiatan penguatan literasi dan numerasi. Kegiatan yang akan dilaksanakan berupa pendampingan membaca, menulis dan berhitung menggunakan bahan ajar yang diberikan oleh tim PKM dan link youtube yang memuat materi penguatan literasi dan metode berhitung jarimatika. Kegiatan pendampingan dilakukan di sekolah dan di rumah-rumah siswa yang telah dibagi dalam kelompok-kelompok kecil. Setelah dilakukan pendampingan selama kurang lebih satu bulan, maka selanjutnya dilakukan perlombaan membaca bagi siswa siswi kelas 2 dan 3 di SDI Bonen. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa banyak siswa sudah memiliki perubahan yang positif, mereka yang awal belum bisa membaca sudah mampu membaca dengan baik. Hasil wawancara dengan guru dan orang tua diperoleh bahwa para siswa sudah menunjukkan perubahan sikap dan minat belajar menjadi lebih tinggi dibanding kondisi sebelum kegiatan penguatan literasi

Abstract

Abstract: The cause of the low student learning outcomes is the learning process in the classroom which is still teacher-centered. The learning model that can increase student activity in class is the Beach Ball strategy class discussion model. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the Beach Ball strategy class discussion model on science learning outcomes for Grade VIII students on the subject of the human digestive system at SMPN 2 Kupang Tengah. The design used in this research is nonequivalent control group design. The results showed that the average student learning outcomes in the experimental class obtained a pretest score of 41.86 which increased to 80.31 after being given a posttest. Whereas in the control class the pretest score was 45.47 which increased to 74.11 after being given the posttest. Based on the results of the one-way Anacova test, a probability value (sig) of 0.000 is lower than the set value of 0.05. This shows that Ha (Beach Ball strategy class discussion model is effective on student learning outcomes) is accepted and H0 the Beach Ball strategy class discussion model is not effective on student learning outcomes) is rejected. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that the Beach Ball strategy class discussion model is effective on the learning outcomes of class VIII students at SMPN 2 Kupang Tengah.Keywords:  Effectiveness, Class Discussion, Beach Ball, Learning Outcomes, Food DigestionAbstrak: Penyebab rendahnya hasil belajar siswa adalah proses pembelajaran di kelas yang masih berpusat pada guru. Model pembelajaran yang mampu meningkatkan keaktifan siswa di kelas adalah model diskusi kelas strategi Beach Ball. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efektifitas model diskusi kelas strategi Beach Ball terhadap hasil belajar IPA siswa kelas VIII pada materi sistem pencernaan makanan pada manusia di SMPN 2 Kupang Tengah.  Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian kuantitatif dengan metode Eksperimen Semu. Desain yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah nonequivalent control group design. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata hasil belajar siswa pada kelas eksperimen memperoleh nilai pretest sebesar 41,86 meningkat menjadi 80,31 setelah diberikan posttest. Sedangkan pada kelas kontrol nilai pretest adalah 45,47 meningkat menjadi 74,11 setelah diberikan posttest. Berdasarkan hasil uji anacova satu jalur diperoleh nilai probabilitas (sig) sebesar 0,000 lebih kecil dari nilai yang ditetapkan sebesar 0,05. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa Ha (model diskusi kelas strategi Beach Ball efektif terhadap hasil belajar siswa) diterima dan H0 model diskusi kelas strategi Beach Ball tidak efektif terhadap hasil belajar siswa)ditolak. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data dapat disimpulkan bahwa model diskusi kelas strategi Beach Ball efektif terhadap hasil belajar siswa kelas VIII di SMPN 2 Kupang Tengah. Kata Kunci: Efektif, Diskusi Kelas, Beach Ball, Hasil Belajar, Pencernaan Makanan

Abstract

The purpose of this PkM activity is to assist science teachers in developing learning tools that are oriented towards class discussion learning models by learning think pair share, buzz group, and beach ball strategies that are adapted to natural science material, namely Vitamin Testing, and Photosynthesis Experiments, which will demonstrated to students accompanied by a science teacher, and shared knowledge and experience with science teachers in preparing science learning tools with learning models and strategies adapted to the characteristics of science material. This activity was carried out at SMPN 2 Oelpuah Kupang Tengah with stages such as meetings with partners, preparation of materials, questionnaires, as well as tools and materials used for PkM activities, presentation of materials, practice of making learning tools, testing of learning tools, practicum, evaluation and reporting.The results obtained from this PkM activity were that science teachers gained new knowledge about how to prepare learning tools with various models and strategies and the participants were very enthusiastic in participating in this activity as evidenced from the analysis of the questionnaire 100% of the participants were tipped in training and practicum activities.

Abstract

Pandemi Covid-19 menyebabkan perubahan dari semua segi kehidupan, temasuk bidang pendidikan. Pembelajaran online yang ditawarkan mengharuskan pembelajaran tanpa adanya interaksi langsung antara guru dan siswa di Sekolah Dasar Katolik (SDK) Kristus Raja Baun. Hal ini menyebabkan banyak siswa yang kesulitan dalam hal membaca. Pendampingan dan peningkatan budaya literasi yang dilaksanakan oleh mahasiswa  Universitas Katolik Widya Mandira menjadi salah satu solusi untuk membantu anak-anak SDK Kristus Raja Baun. Setelah melalui pendampingan di sekolah maupun Grup Belajar Sore (GBS), diperoleh hasil pengakuan dari guru dan orang tua  bahwa terjadi perubahan kebiasaan dari para siswa di rumah dan disekolah. Para siswa cenderung untuk mencari lebih banyak sumber bacaan untuk dibaca. Hasil lain yang diperoleh yaitu para siswa semangat untuk menceritakan kembali cerita yang mereka baca serta interaksi positif dari para siswa selama pembelajaran. Peran guru, orang tua dan  masyarakat sangat diperlukan dalam menanamkan budaya literasi bagi generasi masa depan bangsa.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis tumbuhan obat apa saja yang digunakan bagian organ tumbuhan apa saja yang digunakan, cara pengolahan tumbuhan obat, jenis penyakit  apa  saja  yang disembuhkan menggunakan tumbuhan obat oleh masyarakat Desa Kletek, Kecamatan Malaka Tengah, Kabupaten Malaka. Jenis penelitian ini adalah peneltian deskriptif, metode yang digunakan untuk mendapatkan data yaitu dengan observasi langsung dan wawancara. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian terdapat 16 jenis yang  tergabung  dalam 13 famili  tumbuhan yang digunakan sebagai obat tradisional untuk menyembuhkan penyakit pada manusia oleh masyarakat Desa Kletek yaitu Kecubung (D. metel L.), Jambu biji (P. guajava L.), Patikan kebo (E. hirta L.), Meniran (P. niruri L.), Papaya (C. papaya L.), Belimbing wuluh (A. bilimbi L.), Jarak pagar (J. curcas L.), Biduri (C. gigantea L), Pohon asam (T. indica L.), Kepok randu (C. pentandra L.), Beringin (F. benjamina L.), Kesambi (Z. oleosa L.), Kunyit (C. longa L.), Lengkuas (A. galanga L.),  Jahe (Z. officinale Roscoe), Daun Sirih (P. battle Linn.). Bagian tumbuhan yang digunakan  adalah  daun,  buah,  batang,  rimpang,  akar,  kulit.  Cara  pengolahan  yaitu  ditumbuk,  direbus, dikunya, diremas, diperas dan diberikan secara langsung. Adapun khasiat dari setiap jenis tumbuhan obat yang digunakan untuk menyembuhkan penyakit pada manusia berbeda-beda dimana dari 21 jenis penyakit atau gangguan kesehatan pada manusia yang dapat disembuhkan yaitu : ambeien, diare, kangker payudara, kencing manis, kencing batu, sakit telinga, malaria, sakit kepala, sakit gigi, sariawan, memperlancar air susu, amandel, bisul, patah tulang, cacar air, gatal-gatal, bengkak bernana, panu, batuk, perut sakit, kepala sakit. Jenis tumbuhan yang paling banyak digunakan adalah jambu biji, patikan kebo, jarak pagar, kesambi,dan sirih hutan

Abstract

Community Partnership Empowerment (PKM) activities have been carried out in the youth group and Mrs. GMIT Ebenhaezer Bilamun, Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tengara Province.The youth group in the church organization system is known as the backbone of the church while the mothers' group is known as the family kitchen. The number of people in this congregation is 105 households. Therefore, empowerment efforts in the agricultural sector for young people and mothers need to be carried out to improve the welfare of the congregation or community, especially families.The aim of this activity is to introduce, provide understanding, and knowledge an environmentally friendly agricultural system (eco farming) through the use of palm oil shells into biochar in the church environment. The methods of activities carried out are counseling (socialization), training and mentoring (plot demonstration using an intercropping system for land measuring 300 m2). Socialization regarding eco farming, intercropping systems, and bokashi. Training on making biochar using palmyra shells called “CharTa”. Assistance is carried out by demonstrating plots of the intercropping system for mustard greens, kale, celery, long beans, spinach and pumpkin. Mentoring activities will continue until December 2023. After this PKM activity, it shows that the knowledge and skills of the young group and Mrs. GMIT Ebenhaezer Bilamun have increased regarding the implementation of the eco farming system in the church environment using “CharTa” (the name of the biochar product which has been protected according to Copyright No. EC202380592 dated 13 September 2023). The level of knowledge and skills that increased was the understanding of biochar (52.94% to 82.35%); eco farming system and intercropping planting system (41.18% to 100%); and land utilisation and farmer groups (52.94% to 100%). The results of the assistance will be obtained until this activity is completed in December 2023.

Abstract

The textile industry in the world keeps increasing, but it harms environmental pollution caused by textile dye waste. Synthetic dyes contain carcinogenic and mutagenic ingredients that can demage the environment and aquatic biota. The alternative to handling dye pollution with a low-cost method is adsorption using nitric acid-activated coconut fiber. Coconut fiber was an abundant agricultural waste and economical, and it had an active site that contained many compounds such as cellulose, lignin, pyroligneous acid, and tannin molecules. This study used the UV-Vis Spectrophotometer analysis method to determine the effect of pH, contact time, and coconut fiber on the adsorption capacity of methylene blue. The result showed that the optimal conditions for adsorption were a pH of 5, a contact time of 75 minutes, and a percentage adsorption of the variation of contact time of 99.628%. The adsorption study was according to a pseudo-second-order reaction with a constant reaction rate of 0.050 g mg-1 minute-1. The maximum adsorption capacity was 2 mg g-1, with the percentage of methylene blue adsorbed at 99.84%. Adsorption occurs chemically with an energy of 35.4 kJ mol-1, so it can be determined that it occurs with a monolayer mechanism.
