Abstract

Teknik konservasi T1K3, T2K3, T1K4 dan T2K4 dapat diterapkan pada lahan dataran tinggi karena mampu menurunkan erosi ≤ ETol (30,92 ton.ha-1.th-1) dan meningkatkan pendapatan usahatani ≥ KHL (Rp. 23.920.000 kk-1.th-1), sehingga keberlanjutan lingkungan dan ekonomi dapat tercapai.ABSTRACTThe problems encountered in red pepper farming on the upland area is the decrease in the crops productivity due to a mismatch between agrotechnology with the land characteristics and the needs of the crops. This condition accelerates the erosion process and increase the loss of top soil, which are more fertile. All of those things has in turn decrease land productivity. This objectives of the study are to gain knowledge about the extension of erosion, to analyze the contribution of farm income to the farmers Need of Decent Living (NDL), and to study alternative technique of soil and water conservation. Erosion is analyzed by USLE equations. Farm income is analyzed by using cash flow budget analysis. NDL is calculated based on amount of family member in one family farmer, which is approached by minimum physical necessities added by additional life necessities. Soil conservation technique were tested in erosion experimental plots with 2 x 20 meters size made at the 40 % slope. Randomized block design is used that are consist of two factors. The first is cropping pattern which are monoculture red pepper (T1) and intercropping red pepper with cabbage (T2). The second is soil conservation technique which are the ridges in the direction of the slope as the control (K1), the ridges in the direction of the slope + the ridges cut off the slopes in every 6.6 meters (K2), the ridges across the slope (K3), and ridges across the slope with 20° tilted (K4). The research result shows that as the slope is getting steeper, the erosion is getting higher and exceeded the TSL and the contribution of farm income to the farmers NDL is getting lower. Monoculture red pepper cropping patterns have a greater erosion and the contribution of farm income to the farmers NDL is smaller than the intercropping. Conservation technique T1K3, T2K3, T1K4 and T2K4 can be applied to the upland area because it is capable to decrease the erosion less than or equal to the TSL (30.92 ton.ha-1.yr-1) and increasing farming income more than or equal to the farmers NDL (Rp. 23,920,000 household-1.yr-1), and therefore the sustainability of the environment and the economy can be accomplished.

Abstract

Kandungan glukosa dan fruktosa paling tinggi terdapat pada buah manggis yang memasuki fase pematangan buah.ABSTRACTMangosteen production fluctuates year by year because of imbalance nutrient in plant. Plant produces a lot of fruit with smaller size during “on season”, while few of fruit with bigger size during “off season”. On the other hand, the high fruit drop occurred when “on season” because mangosteen tree is not able to hold too many fruits. This experiment was conducted to obtain the information of nutrient status on mangosteen tree and explain the fluctuation of nutrient and sugar in one harvset period. The result show that mangosteen had a very high ratio between leaves and fruit, i.e 142:1. The changes of nutrient content during fruit development were found in potassium (K) and calcium (Ca), B (boron), Cu (copper), Zn (zinc) which have a critical role in fruit set process. Limitation of sugar translocation in the beginning of fruit development stage was occurred. It shows by the high content of sugar in leaves along with the low content of sugar in mangosteen fruit. The highest glucose and fructose content in mangosteen fruit was found on the beginning of maturation stage.

Abstract

Mangosteen (GarciniamangostanaL.) knows as one of the most delicious fruit in the word, it’s call as “Queen of fruits”. The problems in mangosteen culture are low productivity and low fruit quality due to less developed technical culture, especially on fertilizer. There is a little information available on mangosteen fertilizer recommendation standards based on scientific experiment.Phosphor fertilizer increased growth especially in the generative stage of mangosteen. Phosphor increases the number of flowers and fruits set. It also decreases the number of flowers and fruits drop, with a linear response. It indicates mangosteen trees absorb phosphor to increase the vegetative growth and support production. Fertilizers increase phosphor concentrations in leaf tissues. Leaf tissues analyses showed the status of phosphor status, This status has a correlation to the yield. The higher the nutrients concentration in the leaf tissues, the higher the mangosteens yield in the next harvest

Abstract

The availability of nutrients in plants depends on the ability of plants to absorb nutrients from the soil. One of the processes absorbed by plants is by the presence of the transpiration process.  Good transpiration will provide enough nutrients for plants which increase the productivity and quality of mangosteen. One of the quality standards of mangosteen fruit for export quality is the free from yellow sap contamination. It can be possible that transpiration can improve the quality of mangosteen fruit by applying fertilization. In this study Ca fertilization was carried out on mangosteen seeds, where this study aims to investigate the effectiveness of Ca uptake by mangosteen plants with the level of water loss by transpiration. This research was conducted in November 2016-March 2017 at the Leuwikopo Experimental Garden, Bogor Agricultural University. Morphological observations were carried out in its Experimental Garden and the Postharvest Laboratory whileanalysis of calcium content of plant tissue was done at the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, Bogor Agricultural University. Data obtained then were analyzed using ANOVA test. If the results were significant, Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) was then tested at 0.05 probability level. The results revealed that the transpiration rate of mangosteen plants from several treatments showed a significant difference, the transpiration rate was higher, especially in fertilized plants. The size of the 12th leaf, plants treated with fertilizer have a larger size than the treatment without fertilization. Fertilizing and providing enough water can maintain the growth of the plants.

Abstract

Tomatoes are a widely produced and consumed fruit-vegetable belonging to the Solanaceae family. It contains minerals, vitamins, essential amino acids, sugars, and fiber. Micro-Tom is a wild-type cultivar from a cross between the Florida Basket and Ohio 4013-3 cultivars. Micro-Tom has two mutant types, the iaa9-3 and iaa9-5 mutants, which exhibit strong parthenocarpic properties. It is classified as a mutant tomato due to a mutation in the IAA9 gene, which belongs to the Auxin/IAA (Indole-3-Acetic-Acid) gene family and plays a role in suppressing the endogenous auxin signal transcription pathway. Using artificial light in cultivation techniques shortens the plant cycle and accelerates the juvenile phase. This study aimed to investigate the morphological, physiological, and production responses of Micro-Tom tomatoes to supplemental LED lighting. The research was conducted at the Leuwikopo experimental field of IPB University from March to November 2023. A completely randomized design was employed, with two factors (LED spectrum and Micro-Tom genotyping) and nine replicates. The study also examined the potential benefits of combining polychromatic and monochromatic light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The response of Micro-Tom tomatoes to artificial lighting with purple and white LEDs did not show significant differences in growth and production parameters. However, significant differences were observed between the tomato types, specifically between the Wild-type and the iaa9-3 mutant. No significant differences were found in LED treatment or Micro-Tom genotype for physiological parameters such as chlorophyll content and glucose-fructose levels. Regarding fruit quality, no significant differences were observed for parameters such as total soluble solids (TSS, Brix) to total titratable acidity (TTA, acidity), glucose and fructose, and malic acid. The LC-MS/MS analysis of leaves exposed to purple LED light revealed a profile dominated by secondary metabolites from the fatty acid compound group, suggesting the potential benefits of this lighting combination. In conclusion, using LED lights can accelerate the plant life cycle and shorten the juvenile phase, as evidenced by the first flower emergence, which occurred 20 days after transplanting (DAT) in the wild-type genotype and 16 DAT in the mutant genotype.

Abstract

Summary APETALA1 (AP1) is one of flowering identity genes that determines the formation of sepal and petal tissues. An AP1 homologue was cloned from cacao flowers by bio-techniques coupled with bio-informatics. Examination of phenotypic expression was conducted with transgenesis of the 35S-TcAP1 construct using leaf disk technique of tobacco leaf explants mediated by Agrobacterium tumefaciens. PCR specific to TcAP1 demonstrated that the technique is effective in introducing the 35S-TcAP1 construct into tobacco plant cells. RT-PCR with total RNA from the leaves of transgenic tobacco plantlets showed that expression levels of the TcAP1 events varied. The variation of the transcript levels was comparable to the morphological phenotype of the tobacco plantlets grown in vitro. The cultures expressing TcAP1 at moderate levels, have developed into intact plantlets and set up flowers in vitro.

Abstract

Kecapi (Sandoricum koetjape Merr.) is a tropical fruit species that belongs to the Meliaceae family. Kecapi trees require 5-7 years to produce fruit when grown from seeds, necessitating efforts to accelerate their growth, including through the modification of light. This research aimed to study kecapi’s morphological, physiological, and anatomical responses to light spectra and intensities from light-emitting diodes. The experiment was designed using a two-factor, completely randomized design (CRD), namely LED light spectrum (white and purple) and light intensity (2 and 4 lights). The result showed that morphological and vegetative growth were significantly affected under the high-intensity purple LED treatment. The low-intensity purple LED treatment increased stomatal conductance and chlorophyll-b synthesis. The transpiration rate was highest under the high intensity white LED treatment. Low-intensity white LED treatment only increased the abaxial stomatal aperture. As the intensity increased, it also increased N-Total content but decreased micronutrient levels in the leaves.
