Abstract

This research is motivated by the gap between the accepted and practised Merdeka Belajar policies in the field. Based on data released by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, around 60% of teachers are still limited in mastering technology. Only 40% of teachers can learn the Merdeka Curriculum without experiencing obstacles. This has impacted the variation and readiness of all stakeholders in its operationalization in educational units. This study aims to understand teachers' perceptions as the spearhead of curriculum actors at the operational level regarding the meaning of Merdeka Learning. This study uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method, which is analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis with the help of the ATLAS.ti application. The study results show similarities and differences in perceptions between driving and non-driving teachers regarding the understanding of the concept of Merdeka Learning, its relationship to implementation and challenges. Driving teachers understand this concept better by sharing knowledge with fellow teachers and receiving support from driving schools as pioneers in implementing the Merdeka Curriculum. In contrast, non-driving teachers try to follow the flow by learning through other platforms, such as social media. Challenges in implementing the Independent Curriculum involve support from all stakeholders and the diversity of student characters that give rise to response variations. Differences in perception between driving and non-driving teachers regarding the concept of the Independent Curriculum affect its implementation. This study can enrich the existing literature by adding new perspectives or relevant empirical findings.

Abstract

Indonesia's cultural richness, especially Javanese traditions, demands sustainable preservation. One of the traditions that is still strongly adhered to is the calculation of weton as a reference in marriage. This study aims to analyze the practice of calculating weton in Singa Gembara Village from the perspective of Islamic law, as well as identify problems and solutions that can be applied. The research method used is qualitative descriptive with a field study approach, through observation and interviews with the local Javanese community. The results of the study show that people are still very attached to the weton tradition in determining the compatibility of couples and the good day of the wedding, although the calculation methods vary. In the view of Islamic law, this practice is acceptable as 'urf as long as it is not believed to be the absolute determinant of fate or to associate with Allah. However, excessive dependence on weton can cause problems such as marriage annulment, family conflicts, and the potential erosion of faith. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen religious education about destiny, develop Islamic-based premarital guidance, a balanced cultural approach, and counseling services. This study recommends the integration of local cultural preservation and sharia obedience as a path to a harmonious marriage and according to Islamic guidance.

Abstract

Competency-based education (CBE) is an instructional model gaining popularity in schools. A preliminary study found that teachers' identities must shift to engage in CBE fully. They must construct classrooms engaging and supporting students in independent learning. This study aims to uncover teachers' understanding of CBE and implementation challenges. A quantitative descriptive research method used questionnaires distributed to 1,905 teachers across Indonesia. The results showed that teachers have a good grasp of CBE regarding learning standards, methods, media, strategies, assessment, and student involvement. Challenges included determining the achievement of learning objectives, assignment deadlines for students, and strategies for sharing experiences. Proper CBE implementation requires teacher readiness in skills and CBE understanding. Those challenges provide implications for quality competency-based learning and assessment in schools.

Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum introduces Natural and Social Science (NSP)/Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam dan Sosial (IPAS) subjects to improve science literacy among primary school students. However, in one of the public elementary schools in Semarang, teachers still dominantly use the lecture method and textbooks, causing the science understanding of class 5A students in the 2023/2024 school year to remain low, as seen from the unsatisfactory results of daily tests and STS. This study aims to develop learning media through IPAS-based visual novel educational games with a Development Research approach using the ADDIE method and a one-group pretest-posttest research design. The sample consisted of 30 students from class 5A who were selected by purposive sampling. The game media was developed using the Ren'Py application and validated by media and material experts. The validation results showed the game had a very high level of validity. The effectiveness test showed increased self-directed learning with an N-Gain value of 0.73, indicating that the game is quite effective. The visual novel game ‘Earth and Environment’ is expected to help teachers overcome the limitations of digital media in IPAS learning and improve students' self-directed learning ability.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an interactive multimedia in the form of an educational game titled Math Adventure to enhance elementary school students' learning motivation, particularly in mathematics subjects covering Pictogram and Bar Chart topics. The background of the study stems from the low learning motivation among students, which is attributed to conventional teaching methods and teachers' limited use of technology-based media. This research employs the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE development model, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The product was developed using Construct 2 software and validated by media and content experts before being tested on fourth-grade students at SD Negeri Krengseng 01. Validation results indicate that the media is highly suitable for use, with average validation scores of 4.78 for media and 4.46 for content, both classified as "very good". The practicality of the media was assessed based on student responses, showing an average score of 90.70%, indicating that the media is highly practical. Effectiveness testing was conducted using N-Gain analysis based on pretest and posttest results on learning motivation, yielding an average N-Gain score of 0.4914, categorized as moderate effectiveness. These findings demonstrate that Math Adventure is not only feasible and practical to use but also moderately effective in enhancing students’ motivation in learning mathematics. Therefore, this educational game can serve as an innovative alternative solution for teaching mathematics in elementary schools.
